Schlappi Engineering THREE BODY / first patch / hell yeah

video upload by BRiES

"After being held hostage for over 2 weeks THREE BODY is finally here.

This is a first test minutes after taking it out of the box. Just ace. I love it when modules are self explanatory, yet take some deep understanding to get to the bottom of it (aka instant satisfaction but a lot of room for abuse and exploration).

Schlappi Engineering surely did a terrific job with this one.

Featuring MANDRAKE by Malstrom Audio for kicks, ORBIT 3 by Joranalogue Audio Design for the snare and hats and CHORUS 6 by Soundforce for some tempo synced stereo movement of those hats (aided by Dual LFO)."

Special Cranker on synthesizers & drum machines - Earthquaker Devices

video upload by Stazma

"I'll be doing more fx pedals related content this year and I wanted to start by the last pedal I bought, the Special Cranker by @EarthQuakerDevices.

It's quite rare you find demos of overdrive type pedals with synths and drum machine even tho they might sound great on such devices. I'll try to fix that mistake today!"

Schlappi Engineering BOUNDARY / unique 4Q VCA and function generator / extensive playthrough

video upload by BRiES

"In this video about BOUNDARY by Schlappi Engineering I demonstrate the features of this function generator/vca. Especially the 'bound' parameter on the envelope section gives us behaviour that's very unique to BOUNDARY. I tried to show every feature of the module, but I forgot to mention a few of the LEDs on the frontpanel (those tell you what's happening inside). I'm sure if you've watched the video you'll be able to figure those out when you do a quick glance at the manual.

The build quality is just great, everything is really sturdy, the knobs are heavy duty and I'm not at all affraid that I'll wiggle them off of the unit at any point in time.

DISCLAIMER: This unit got sent to me by Jay from Schlappi Engineering (thanks btw!) to make a comprehensive video about it. In no way does this affect the content of the video: my only goal is to share how the module works, what you can and can't do with it, ... so you can make a better judgement whether BOUNDARY is something you need for your system or not."

Schlappi Engineering Three Body VCO - Just Drones

video upload by John Schussler

"Three Body has just arrived, and I'm in the throes of figuring it out.

Here's 25 minutes of me working through a bunch of different drone sounds,
first with outputs from all three VCOs, then from just Center VCO outputs (but modulated by the other two VCOs).

No external modulation sources, no envelopes, just the Three Body by itself.

Schlappi Engineering ANGLE GRINDER / ingenious vco, lfo, filter & distortion / extensive playthrough

video upload by BRiES

"In this video about Schlappi Engineering's ANGLE GRINDER I demonstrate the different aspects of the module seperately, before throwing it all together in a gritty mayhem of waveshaping and feedback.

ANGLE GRINDER is a versatile piece of gear that can be used to create, shape and mangle audio as well as CV signals. The filter sounds really nice and clean if you back off all the feedback and modulation, but once you start adding the GRIND section to the mix it can produce rich CV controllable distortion. If you use ANGLE GRINDER as a VCO or LFO the linear and exponential FM inputs provide plenty of modulation options. The quadrature LFO outputs can bring life to patches and by adding feedback you can change the shape of the generated sine waves drastically. You can even use ANGLE GRINDER as a make-shift sequencer."

ANGLORYTHMIC BREATHING / just when you think you understand Angle Grinder by Schlappi Engineering

video upload by BRiES

"The behaviour of the comparators is starting to make sense... but it all falls to pieces from the moment you introduce feedback (which is very easy due to the normalized connections).

I'm getting closer to being able to do a full video about this module."

Three Body Jam

video upload by Synth Diy Guy

"My first day playing with the new Three Body module by Schlappi Engineering!
An FPGA based triple oscillator with creative normalizations that make it a great experimental electronic music module all on it's own! I'm using a bit of modulation from the Kermit and some reverb from Monsoon.

0:00 Introduction and overview
0:54 Ratio Mode
6:44 Modulation normalization
7:23 Modulation Indexes
9:17 Free Mode
12:55 Patch example"

Note the prototype Three Body made it's first appearance on the site in 2020 here. Unfortunately that video has been removed.

"The Three Body is a phase and frequency modulation toolkit, designed to bring digital techniques to an analog interface. It consists of three oscillators which can be used independently but which have normalized connections to facilitate exploration and improvisation.

Features:

Three separate high quality oscillators
Each oscillator has volts/octave input
Each oscillator has both a phase and a frequency modulation input
Each oscillator has a modulation index (VCA) cv input
Each oscillator has sine, triangle, saw, and square outputs (for a total of 16 outputs)
The center oscillator has two phase related output pairs for stereo usage (sine and cosine, saw and cosaw)
Each oscillator can independently be set in a free running or ratio mode
Each oscillator can have either exponential or linear through zero frequency modulation
Each oscillator can track external signals at a cv controllable frequency ratio
Frequency ratios can be cv controlled
Tracks volts per octave over at least 4 octaves of positive CV and 2 or 3 of negative CV.

Built around an FPGA core with high internal sample rate for audio rate modulation
30HP
Skiff friendly 30mm depth
current consumption of 95mA on +12V (less than 200mA on startup) and 50mA on -12V"

Korg opsix- Dream vs Nightmare, external modular processing for a simple organ-like patch

video upload by Friendly Noise

"Modules: Xaoc Tallin, Schlappi Engineering 100 Grit and Angle Grinder, SSF Vortices, Intellijel Quadrax.
No eurorack: Strymon Nightsky

Preset used: 014 Ambi Sines. Internal filter and effects are off. The monophonic output goes into Xaoc Tallin for level raising and then the signal goes to 100 Grit for filtering and distortion. The output from 100 Grit goes into the Angle Grinder, where it gets splitted using the dedicated output for low pass and high pass filtering. The splitted signals go to two mono channels of Vortices. The panning of those two channels is modulated with channels 1 and 2 of Quadrax in LFO mode (but not from the beginning of the video). The idea is similar to what a Leslie does, but not trying to emulate the sound. Channels 3 and 4 of Quadrax are also in LFO mode and modulate the filter frequency of 100 Grit and Angle Grinder. Finally, Nightsky adds some ambient reverb. No sequencing or arpeggio were used, but sometimes the intermodulation of oscillator frequencies and harmonics would let you think there is some sequencing."

storm sequence - eurorack (make noise ,interstellar radio) micro freak

video upload by junklight

"Just messing about with the Schlappi Engineering Interstellar Radio module, my Make Noise micro sound system and the mircofreak

I've always loved radio sounds and the interstellar radio is a good way of creating them in the modular without sampling. Also really loving the Make Noise tape & micro sound system such a creative instrument.

I bought a Walrus Audio Slö reverb for my micro freak - it really suits it!"

The New Utility Powerhouse - Boundary by Schlappi Engineering

video upload by

"In this video resident expert Nick Bigelow of Patchwerks shares with us the many ways you can use Boundary by making comparisons with the Make Noise Maths.

The Boundary is a multi-purpose modulation and signal control center. It consists of a cycling slew and a four quadrant multiplier (VCA).

The cycling slew (which can be used as an envelope or LFO) has individual control over rise and fall, rate and shape, as well as dedicated inputs for trigger, slew (for gates or pitch cv), full wave rectification (for envelope following), and a unique BOUND input which allows for bouncing ball effects and additional modulation of the envelope.

The four quadrant multiplier is an OTA design and is usable as a VCA or ring modulator with a soft limiter on the output to tame extreme signals or push into distortion.
