via Todd Barton:
"Dear Friends,
I am excited to announce the release of our new CD: Music for Easels!
Digital downloads available soon on iTunes, Amazon, etc.
This is a live recording of a rare convergence on November 7, 2014 at the Schneider Museum of Art in Ashland, Oregon where Todd Barton, Bruce Bayard, Eden Mononym and Adam Scramstad gathered to explore the improvised interactions of four Buchla Music Easels.
In this historic performance these Oregon sound artists met in quadraphonic space surrounding the audience with speakers, offering them a unique listening experience. The CD is a stereo mix of all four channels.
The five tracks on this live performance album range from the world premiere of Todd Barton's composition, Butoh for Easels, to compelling solo improvisations by Eden and Adam to exciting ensemble soundscapes.
All best wishes, Todd"

Craig Leon | Bach to Moog
Published on Mar 25, 2015 Moog Music Inc
"Craig Leon, famous for his work with The Ramones and Blondie, as well as his work in the classical arena with such leading artists as Luciano Pavarotti, Joshua Bell and Sir James Galway, talks about the inspiration behind and the process of creating his latest record: "Bach to Moog."
In 1968, the album ‘Switched On Bach’ inspired many musicians of the time to explore the wondrous new world of synthesized music making. This ground-breaking album was the first ever to take standard classical repertoire and interpret it solely on a device which generated new sounds electronically. Although there had been research and sonic experiments earlier, it was after this breakthrough release that the synthesizer entered the mainstream of modern experimental and pop music recording.
As a welcome extension to the synthesized exploration of Bach’s music and the many creative opportunities that opened up 50 years ago, ‘Bach to Moog’ album integrates the Moog modular synthesizer into the orchestra as a solo instrument, in ensemble and also as a processor of other instruments."

Vintage Korean "Moog 75" Vinyl LP
flickr by moreska
"Seoul Korea vintage Korean vinyl LP 'Moog 75' with oddball doll on cover - 'Groovy Moog'
This vintage Korean LP features works done on the legendary Moog synthesizer and was part of a series, itself likely a response to the popularity of Wendy Carlos' 'Switched on Bach.' Some Roger Moore James Bond stuff rounds out the picture. ;-)"

Surachai's Ritual - All Cwejman Release Now Available
Follow-up to this post, the digital release is now available on TRASH_AUDIO. Vinyl ships June 1st, 2014.

The Electric Music Box - Sketches Volume 1: The Solo Parts
"'The Electric Music Box - Sketches Volume 1: The Solo Parts' is a project that uses the new Buchla Music Easel as its only sound source. Except for "The Clone Drones" all songs are generated with just the Music Easel. No additional sequencers, external effects or multitracking were used. Just a bit of mastering with Equalizer and mono->stereo enhancement.
But this is in no way meant to be an Easel "Demo". You will encounter much more of the dark and haunting Weinglas style in this release than you will find your usual bass or solo synthesizer sounds.
So lean back and enjoy the darkness! But beware of lots of high and low frequencies! So don't turn your amp to eleven!
And be warned: This project is about to be continued. So watch out for Volume 2!
Btw: On Youtube here you can find lots of videos for this release!

Ritual by Surachai
Full write-up including the process of creating the release on TRASH_AUDIO.
"After several years of creating complex arrangements and aurally dense albums, I decided to simplify the tools and work with its impact on composition and sound. One of my favorite synthesizers is the semi-modular Cwejman S1 MKII and knew that it was complex enough to shape all the sounds I needed for an album. The Cwejman’s architecture is familiar to existing 3 oscillator systems but its semi-modular nature, filters, envelopes, and even distortion are completely unique. Although using only one sound source simplified the sound I believe Ritual is, frequency wise, the heaviest album I have made..."

BENGE LOOP SERIES ONE: BUCHLA 100
"BENGE LOOP SERIES ONE: BUCHLA 100
A series of albums recorded on a single electronic music synthesiser (or group of related instruments incorporated into a system) utilising a method of composing and recording called Looping
Looping is achieved using a technique whereby sounds are recorded either digitally or to tape which is set to loop around upon itself at various fixed lengths of time, ranging from a few seconds up to several minutes depending on the compositional effect required for each individual piece of music
There are many variables within this framework which determine the nature of the composition such as: LOOP DURATION; NUMBER OF CHANNELS; STEREO POSITIONING; LOOP FEEDBACK, etc. Thus, the ‘rules’ of each musical piece can be set up in advance allowing the composition to flow naturally from any given starting point
On this first record the sound source is a Buchla 100 modular analog synthesiser dating from the 1960s. This instrument in itself allows for extremely complex multi-dimentional events to be set up, including elements relating to pitch, timbre, time, duration, rhythm, harmony, reverberation, stereo location and the like. Furthermore it can be manipulated very easily in real time, using the various potentiometers and touch plates. The looping techniques used here included multitrack digital recording (Electro Harmonix 2880), monophonic tape loops (Roland RE501) and various combinations of the two

David First - Electronic Works 1976-1977 on Buchla 100
via Norman Records, via @_JoeOxley
shop.daisrecords.com/collections/fr…s-1976-1977-lp
"When people associate composer David First with his musical resume, anyone goes straight to his late 70′s avant punk band, The Notekillers and their influential 1980 single "The Zipper". Prior to his time in the basements of Philadelphia, he had already played in Cecil Taylor’s ensemble and after the Notekillers broke up he moved to New York City in the early 80′s, taking root in the downtown NYC avant garde scene. It was there that First honed his craft for experimental composition and ambient drone which still continues to the present day.
Though this narrative made sense, there was a piece missing in the puzzle of First’s musical background. In 1976, two years after playing with Taylor and the year before starting the Notekillers, he enrolled in a class in electronic music at Princeton in the department headed at the time by legendary electronic composer Milton Babbitt.
During his time at Princeton, First was introduced to the classical electronic music studio there, a lonely outpost of the famed Columbia-Princeton Electronic Music Center which housed one of the very first Buchla 100 series systems acquired by Vladimir Ussachevsky & Otto Luening.
Unfortunately, due to the introduction of digital technology within the music world, this system was left to languish in the studio unattended and nearly forgotten. First fell in love with this equipment and seized the opportunity to compose using the Buchla 100 synthesizer, at first experimenting only with electronic synthesis but later adding in his signature guitar stylings to make these compositions unique to the academic output typical of university music.
Thankfully, these compositions were recorded by First at Princeton on various reel to reel tapes and stored away for over 35 years. It wasn’t until the summer of 2012, when David First and Ryan Martin (of Dais Records) decided to revisit and transfer these reels to compile an album presented here as a selection of genuine, uninhibited exploration into modular electronic synthesis. Limited to an edition of 500 copies with liner notes by David First."
