Verbos Analog Shift Register

video upload by Boele Gerkes

"While playing a simple arpeggio, two Verbos Harmonic Oscillators are "animated" with CVs coming out of the Analog Shift Register from a Verbos Random Sampling module. Audio then goes through the DPW Design M枚g module and 4MS Dual Looping Delay."

Verbos Electronics Performance System

via this auction

"The classic Buchla 200/100 series sound without paying vintage market prices!

This performance system was a limited edition modular system (limited to 7 pieces in the red) from Mark Verbos which included his touchplate keyboard as well as four other modules mounted in a red Dark Modular portable 208 case with custom verbos power and cincon adapter, aluminum blank panels to fill the gaps.

The modules were arranged in this system to be best suited for live performance.

They include both touch and sequencing elements, two varieties of flexible oscillators and a very distinguishable vca.

This case has only been opened a dozen times at best and is basically in mint condition. It was purchased in 2015 from Analoguehaven for $3,199 (Total with tax $3,274)"

Patch Notes: Alex Epton

video by FACTmagazine

"Alex Epton is a multifaceted producer and composer (also known as XXXChange), whose in-house role at XL Recordings has seen him work with FKA twigs, Arca and Jamie xx.. IN 2019 he collaborated with cellist Lucinda Chua on the soundtrack for the documentary film 3OHA.

Epton’s own personal studio practice focuses heavily on hardware, including modular synthesis and tape loops. In this episode of Patch Notes, recorded ahead of the release of his new EP The Episodic Buffer Vol 2, he creates an experimental piece with a selection of Verbos Electronics modules and touchplate controller together with manipulated vocals.

“I始m not using any fancy loop length randomization here on this patch although there始s some clips of that implementation on my Instagram,” Epton says. “Also the Verbos Electronics YouYube page has a well explained example of how to set that up.”

“The basic set up here is: Row A – CV out hits voltage scaling then into a quantiser locking it to an arbitrary major scale then into the v/oct input on oscillator A. Row B – CV out hits voltage scaling then into a quantiser, chromatic this time, then into the v/oct input on oscillator B.”

“Each channel of control voyage processor has an input for additional voltage to be added to the sequencer control voltage. This is our first transpose input. Here both sequences are transposed by the master variable CV out on the touch plate keyboard.”

“There始s a second transpose input for oscillator B on the secondary CV in on that oscillator. You can see in the video it始s got tape on it because the attenuvertor knob that scales this input is super sensitive and prone to accidental nudging. This second layer of CV transposition I始m using to drop oscillator B始s pitch to make some tension harmonies agains the main sequence. These tension notes are linked to three individual gate outputs on the touch plate keyboard. Those are summed together before they hit the attenuvertor.”

“So with this set up I始m happy to have only eight steps because there始s a lot of variety that can still be achieved. Also some interesting chromaticism can happen in the harmony when the one CV stream is quantised chromatic VS locked to a scale. A few individual gate outs on the top of the sequencer are summed together to trigger the drum that comes in midway through.”

“That始s pretty much it. I used a tape loop of some manipulated vocals to get some extra atmosphere / randomness going – something to react to. That loop is manipulated through the rooms. Everything comes together at ye olde Sony 8 channel mixer. And recorded into a UA Apollo twin. Also the synth outputs are feeding an oscilloscope in X/Y config.”

The Episodic Buffer Vol 2 is released on May 7. Epton has also created an exploratory video game as a companion piece to the EP, in which you guide a six-limbed being through a psychedelic world.

A quick stream in a slow forest

"Pensive piano-driven ambience with heavy processing, influenced by the late great Harold Budd and his collaborations with Eno and Lanois.

Piano chords: Soft Piano sample in Disting EX, sequenced by Mimetic Digitalis. Modifying envelope time leads to some notes being omitted, giving subtle variations in the notes played.

Treatment chain 1: L1 Stereo Microcompressor into Verbos Multi Delay, with Intellijel 渭VCF resonant bandpass in feedback loop.

Treatment chain 2: Pittsburgh Filter resonant highpass into Rings in Sympathetic Strings mode. Structure modulated by a sequence in a polymetric relationship to the chord sequence, giving variations to the emergent background pitches.

Overall effects: Chronoblob 2 and 2hp Verb."

Verbos HarmOsc

Verbos HarmOsc from Jochen Bohnes on Vimeo.

After a long time I once again used a Max/MSP filter without any Gen~ support - and found it to sound amazingly good - especially when combined with the roughness of the Verbos Harmonic Oscillator.

In combination with a Formant Filter the partial tone sliders are especially helpful, because they emphasize the natural voice sound.

Superbooth 20HE: Verbos Electronics Shows off Their Latest Modules

Published on Apr 25, 2020 sonicstate

"With Mark Verbos just about to have a child, Verbos Electronics still found the time to hook up with us and show off 3 modules for Superbooth Home Edition. Owing to the system we set up with Mark to shoot this piece, Nick had a quick chat with him and then Mark showed off the modules.

The three modules we took a look at were the updated Amp & Tone, Foundation oscillator and a fixed filter bank and noise generator. Amp & Tone is an updated Filter and VCA design. Foundation Oscillator takes its cues from some of their larger VCO modules and packs it into a smaller footprint and the Noise & Filter is a simple 4 stage fixed filter bank and noise generator.

If you’re interested in picking up some of Verbos Electronics modules then visit their site to find out some more information."

NAMM 2020: Verbos Electronics New Modules Sounds

Published on Jan 17, 2020 Perfect Circuit

"Verbos Electronics brought three new modules to the NAMM show this year, including a new oscillator, filter/amplifier, and filterbank/noise source.

The Verbos Foundation Oscillator is inspired by the Music Easel's Complex Oscillator, providing both fixed outputs and outputs which can continuously fade between sine and more complex shapes (including the famous spike wave). It also adds a "richness" parameter, which provides an edgy tone not unlike the sounds of hard sync sweeps.

The new Amp and Tone Controller is a smaller version of their prior Amp & Tone, providing everything from lowpass gates to much grittier overdriven filter tones. The Noise and Filter module offers white noise and a four-band fixed filterbank, great for sculpting percussive sounds and dividing sounds into multiple spectral regions.

Foundation Oscillator available here"

NAMM 2020: Verbos Electronics - Foundation Oscillator, Noise & Filter and Amp & Tone

Published on Jan 17, 2020 sonicstate

"Mark Verbos was on hand this year to show off his new modules for 2020. The new modules comprised of the Foundation Oscillator, a slim and interesting analogue oscillator. Noise & filter and the updated Amp&Tone.

As well as the new modules Mark was also showing of the new cases for his entire Verbos Electronics Systems. The systems do look rather lovely when they're all in one case like that."
