New Patching Sound Exhibit Opens at the Moogseum & Ikutaro Kakehashi's An Age Without Samples

via The Bob Moog Foundation where you'll find additional details.

"We're excited to share that the Moogseum has had a busy winter and early spring! We were closed for construction in January and February, which allowed us to expand our space to accommodate new exhibits. We spent the month of March creating the latest addition to our family of interactive exhibits, Patching Sound: Understanding Modular Synthesis.

Patching Sound provides visitors with a hands-on opportunity to patch, or create, sounds on a synthesizer interface by connecting various modules that control individual parameters of sound. The custom-designed exhibit was created by Los Angeles-based Sounds Amazing.

Patching Sound was made possible by a generous donation from Dave and Karen Rossum, with additional support from North Carolina Humanities, an affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities, and by donors like you!

A large, fully restored, historic R.A. Moog modular synthesizer, originally created in 1968, serves as the inspirational backdrop for the interactive installation. As part of its storied provenance, this synthesizer was used on the soundtrack of Francis Ford Coppola's Apocalypse Now. You can read more about its history here.

Come experience Patching Sound: Understanding Modular Synthesis at the Moogseum! We are open from 11-5 seven days a week."

"Ikutaro Kakehashi's An Age Without Samples Now Available On Bob Moog Foundation Online Store

We are proud to now be offering An Age Without Samples by synthesizer pioneer Ikutaro Kakehashi in our online store. This 312-page hardcover book was published the same year that its revered author passed away. An Age Without Samples explores such themes as the resurrection of the venture spirit of the '60s and '80s, creativity, and originality. It is replete with examples from his own experiences and storied career and is generously illustrated with scores of rarely seen photos.

Read more about An Age Without Samples and purchase it here.

We send our deep thanks to Ikuo Kakehashi for donating these books to the Bob Moog Foundation so that we could share them with our worldwide community of supporters and generate funding for our innovative work."

Roland Museum - R&D Center in Hamamatsu, Japan

video upload by Roland Experience Channel

"At the Roland R&D Center in Hamamatsu, Japan, we maintain a private museum that exhibits Roland and BOSS musical instruments that date all the way back to our foundation in 1972 and span the genre-defining musical eras of the '80s and '90s. The instruments on display are extremely important to us, and are still used as references for current product development."

SOUNDMIT 2021 - SPECIALE SYNKET - Il Sintetizzatore italiano più raro! - UNBOXING

video uploads by SOUNDMIT

Googlish translation (original Italian below):

"Topical event of SOUNDMIT 2021 was the discovery, by Francesco Mulassano of Soundmit, of one of the rarest electronic musical instruments in the world and certainly the rarest of those designed and built in Italy.

Found in the United States almost by chance, the SYNKET designed and built by PAOLO KETOFF in 1964 was acquired by the Marche and Italian Synthesizer Museum and is currently undergoing restoration before being exhibited at the next edition of the Museum in 2022.

With this video series, we retrace the history of this tool with interviews, unboxing and passionate chat!

Soundmit 2021 was created in collaboration with the Marchigiano and Italian Synthesizer Museum in Macerata

ARP 2500 ÉLIANE RADIGUE TRIBUTE: LIVE @ EMEAPP FEAT. OMBIENT

video upload by EMEAPP

"Here again performing on our complete ARP 2500 modular synthesizer is our regular collaborator and good friend, electronic music artist Ombient. His previous performance featured on this channel was a 21 minute melodic ride of "ARPic" proportions featuring the 2500, 2600 and Pro-Soloist. For his second recorded effort on this system, Ombient wanted to present a performance done exclusively on the 2500 as a tribute to the compositional style of legendary French electronic music composer Éliane Radigue. Sit back and soak in this endlessly evolving, expertly guided journey on this wonderful instrument.

You can find us at www.emeapp.org where we invite you to join us as a member."

ARP 2600x2=ARP 5200: DUAL ARP 2600 MELODIC PERFORMANCE FEAT. VINCE PUPILLO JR.

video upload by EMEAPP

"The iconic ARP 2600 is an undeniable classic, 50 years old and going strong. Here in their full glory are our pair of Tonus-era ARP 2600 semi-modular synthesizers (the 2600 on the left was formerly Jack Bruce's) running in tandem with our ARP 1613 Sequencer along with the Arturia KeyStep, KORG SDD-3000 digital delay and Roland MX-1 performed by EMEAPP associate director and sound designer Vince Pupillo Jr.. This performance was created for and featured in the Alan R. Pearlman Foundation's ARP 2600 virtual 'Synthposium' on September 18, 2021 which celebrated the 50th anniversary of this legendary instrument. Both of our organizations are dedicated to preserving the legacies of electronic music pioneers and we are proud to be a partner with Dina Pearlman and her dedicated team who do wonderful work in uplifting the life and legacy of Alan R. Pearlman. This one's for you Dina! Enjoy!"

V.A.I. 63 CRB Computer Band 2000 / CRB Oberon

video upload by Vintage Audio Institute Italia

"Introducing the wonderfully quirky CRB Computer Band 2000 - a mainly analog auto accompaniment machine from the early 80s with four sections:

1.Drums with individually mutable sounds
2.Bass section with three sounds and two modes
3.Two chord sections with a total of seven sounds, decay and volume controls.
4. And an arpeggiator with four different sounds and decay control.

These sections were originally made for big home-organs, they're incorporated into the CRB 910 organs and a few Solton branded ones as well.
The stand-alone units are quite rare.
The CRB Oberon is a two oscillator monster synth from roughly the same era, it has some interesting features and is probably the most complicated Italian mono synths out there."

WHAT IS NOISEBUG?!?!?

video upload by NOISEBUG

https://www.noisebug.net/

"We often get asked 'What is Noisebug?' and 'What do you guys do here?' Or 'What is this place?' So we’ve finally attempted to answer these questions in our new 30-second TV Spot.

When making it, we drew much inspiration from the trailer for the 1973 film SOYLENT GREEN, which happens to take place in NYC 2022.

Since it will only be airing on TV local to the LA area, we want to share it with our global audience, as well."

You too can go here and synthesize.

Book a session at the Synth Museum!

vintagesynthesizermuseum.com

Q: How does this work?
A: We rent out the space by private, hourly appointments. An appointment grants one access to the entire collection. You’re free to look around, take pictures, play the instruments, record the instruments, ask questions, or whatever else you’re interested in doing here.

Q: How much does an appointment cost?
A: Basic appointments start at $50/hr and go up $15/hr per person you add to the reservation. There is a two hour minimum for groups under 4 people. If you need a full-time recording engineer, or would like group instruction, the rate will go up accordingly.

Q: Am I cool enough to book an appointment at VSM?
A: Yes you are. You’re an amazing person who deserves the best.

Q: Will there be people there judging my skills?
A: Nope. Not unless you bring some judgey people with you. We’re just happy to have people of all backgrounds over here to enjoy and explore this magical place."

Synth Library Portland Lending Program Starts 8/27

This one is in via Brian Comnes.

You might recall Synth Library Portland sought funding back in 2017. It looks like their lending program starts this month.

via Synth Library Portland:

"We're excited to announce that our Lending Program will be starting on 8/27! Want to check out a synth and live in the Portland, OR area? Follow these steps:

Become a member on WithFriends

Sign up for an orientation

Create a MyTurn account and reserve that synth!

We're offering the first two online orientations on Fri 8/27 at 7PM and Sat 8/28 at 2PM. We’ll be offering these on a regular basis so don't worry if you can’t make either of these first ones.

Members who have attended an orientation will have their MyTurn accounts enabled and can take up to two synths home for two weeks at a time.

We'll explain the nuts and bolts of the program at the orientation but here's an idea of when everything happens for our first lending cycle:

Reservation window opens at midnight on 8/29 for QTBIPOC only, then is open-to-all on 8/31 & closes at midnight on 9/2.

In-person pick-up is in N Portland on Fri 9/3 from 4-8PM and Sat 9/4 from 2-6PM. Once you reserve a synth, you'll receive an email with the exact address and instructions for pick-up. Synths are due back on Fri 9/17 from 4-8PM or Sat 9/18 from 2-6PM at the same N Portland location you picked them up from.

We're excited to get synths into the hands of the Portland community and stay tuned for more to come from us soon!

With love,

The Forgotten Synthesizers Of Marche Region

video upload by HAINBACH

Update: you can find additional posts featuring The Museo Del Synth Marchigiano here.

"The Marche Region in Italy was home to a thriving industry of music instrument production from the 1950s to the mid-90s. Tens of thousands of people made organs, accordions and small runs of synthesizers that were like nothing else in the world. Much production closed in the 90s, leaving only a few companies around, and many people lost their jobs. The history of Marche synths was not talked about, too bitter were the memories. The Museo Del Synth Marchigiano aims to change that - a motley crew of synth lovers work together to get the story about this special time in music instrument history out.

I was invited to play a show at Acusmatic Festival in Ancona and visit the collection before. I was overwhelmed by the amazing sounds these machines made, so I captured them on tape and for use in my performance. I also just had to film every synth I could get my hand for you to enjoy. You will find instruments by Siel, Elka, Elgan, Farfisa, Crumar, CRB and more here.

LMNC's MUSEUM OF EVERYTHING ELSE Open to the Public

Announcement - The Future And The Museum! - This Museum Is (Not) Obsolete

video upload by LOOK MUM NO COMPUTER

"Just a quick bit of an update! Regarding the museum which is finally open!"

MUSEUM OF EVERYTHING ELSE, a quick tour #Shorts
video upload by LOOK MUM NO COMPUTER

"Quick tour of the museum of everything else.

we are only opening every sunday due to the pandemic,
we are offering very limited ticketed entry.
Each monday the following Sundays ticket link is posted to Patreon and youtube membership to offer people to get the ticket which is £6 entry.
Then on the Wednesday the link is made public if any tickets are left.
The reason for this is because patrons helped fund it so to avoid a ticket scramble they get a chance to book, if you want a head start any tier on patreon/youtube membership has access to these links.
When we are out of the woods regarding the pandemic it will be a lot less restricted entry and ticket links will be public and we will accept walk ins, however right now it is strictly ticketed entry.
