3. Novation Peak sequenced by Octatrack MKII with Arturia Keystep || Ambient & Electronic live set
"Hi All,
Thank you so much for watching my videos. I know this one is too long but Is my first attempt using Octatrack as a sequencer. I spent last 2 days figure out how the arpeggiator works and I had so much fun. Please see the last part of the video, it's all about arpeggios and delays. Happy to chat more if you have any question about this set up!"
"Novation Peak unboxing, overview/review and sounds & patches. This Novation Peak demo covers various features of the Novation Peak synth, sound design possibilities and a few patches and presets.
The Novation Peak is an 8-voice polyphonic digital/analog hybrid synthesizer featuring digital oscillators + analog filters and VCAs. The Novation Peak's "New Oxford" FPGA-based oscillators run at 24 MHz to avoid typical sample rate limitations of sample and DSP oscillator designs.
The Novation Peak features 3 oscillators (each with sine, triangle, sawtooth and pulse waveforms) and 43 wavetables. Each oscillator also can be have sync or linear FM, and there is a ring modulator and noise as well.
There are 3 envelopes and 4 LFOs on the Peak. The LFOs have triangle, sawtooth, square and Sample & Hold waveforms. The resonant filter is a multimode OTA design with lowpass, bandpass and highpass settings and can be 12dB or 24dB slope. It also features pre and post filter drive amounts.
The Novation Peak effects section contains analog distortion, 3 types of chorus, delay and 3 types of reverb. All effects can also be modulated in a 4-slot FX mod matrix and configured in parallel or serial routing signal chains. There is also a traditional modulation matrix with 16 slots, each slot having 2 sources per destination.
In addition, the Novation Peak has an arpeggiator with 7 modes, 33 patterns, and adjustable gate length. The Peak also includes various functions such as drift, diverge, unison mode, unison detune, Animate buttons to enable temporary sound changes, and more.
The Novation Peak is a powerful and versatile digital/analog hybrid synth for the modern era with great effects and modulation capabilities. It excels at not only traditional analog sounds, but also vast ambient soundscapes, cutting leads, powerful basses, textures and sound effects. The Peak is a fantastic instrument for those who enjoy experimentation and bread n' butter sounds, and fuses digital and analog technology into a single powerful synth.
"Trying out a Novation Peak (one of my favourite Analogue (Hybrid) synths) with an old Novation Drum Station. The Drum Station Demo was supposed to be able to control a Bass Station, so I thought I'd try it out with the Peak. I'm also going to try it out with a Super Bass Station when I get the chance. I've also included some bits using an old Yamaha RY20 rhythm machine with the Peak. Note: the disclaimer: the sounds may be bad, but the gear is not necessarily bad.

"The first 25 Patches I have made for the Novation PEAK., all custom and made from scratch. It's a very powerful Synth and susrprises more and more I use it. A bit menu'ish at times, but nothing too bad. Sounds great though, not really thought about Analogue vs Digital..."
"Testing the analog drive circuits of the Novation Peak against the digital saturation of the Strymon Deco V2. Interesting to see the different characters of both circuits.

"Novation has chosen the Superbooth exhibition as the best place to launch Peak, a polyphonic synthesiser that is destined to be the brand's leading synth. Peak’s design consultant was Chris Huggett, the man behind Bass Station, Supernova, OSCar and many more synths, and Peak has its origin in the Bass Station II analogue monosynth.
Peak is an eight-voice desktop polyphonic synthesiser with three New Oxford Oscillators for each voice. The oscillators sound completely analogue by being high-quality NCOs (Numerically-Controlled Oscillators), but gain the flexibility of the digital domain with 17 digital wavetables. They can also become a linear FM source using either the analogue-sounding NCOs or digital wavetables – so are able to cross-modulate in a recursive loop.
The synth has a resonant multi-mode analogue filter for each voice, and three distortion points for each voice – pre-filter, post-filter and global – in an analogue signal chain. Peak is capable of receiving polyphonic aftertouch, which puts expression right at one's fingertips. There is also reverb, delay and chorus effects, and an on-board arpeggiator.
The modulation system puts a 16-slot modulation matrix and 16 direct assignments in the main controls, cleverly arranged for intuitive patch design and sound editing. There are three ADSR envelopes and two LFOs for each voice, and more elaborate movements and secondary ‘via’ assignments are made just a few menu button presses away. In addition, two animate buttons give live performers instant one-touch transformation of patches.
Peak connects to modular systems via a CV modulation input, and has MIDI I/O on five-pin DIN ports, so other MIDI gear can be connected. Via USB, Peak can be plugged into Mac or PC, where unlimited patches can be kept using the Components software.
Robert Jenkins, Product Strategy Director, Novation, said: 'Peak is a desktop polysynth to rival even the finest polys on the market today – and of years past. Peak is the result of Novation’s obsessive mission over the past decade to create a synthesiser that sounds entirely analogue yet gains the flexibility of the digital domain.'

"About the Conforce Novation PEAK/SUMMIT presets
PEAK has easily become one of my favourite hybrid synthesizers, it has a very nice contemporary character and shares the best of both digital and analog. It’s just as good in mono as it is in poly mode and this makes it versatile and forms a strong creative allrounder. PEAK fills a nice gap between all the analog violence and classic FM/PCM synthesizers in my studio and it stands on itself. It has been really inspiring to program these sounds and learn what it is capable of. I tried to look for the boundaries and explore the expressive character without leaning on classic sound references only. The Cliffhanger Volume 1 presets are great from a musical perspective for different electronic genres but they will also appeal to those who like things trippy and experimental. I think this preset pack is nailing pretty much all the sweet spots of the Novation PEAK and SUMMIT according to my audio standards.
Don’t look further and revitalise your PEAK with fresh patches, it’s the set you want to get! I wish you happy music making.
"This no-talking video explores 7 different methods of using the Novation Peak as a drum synthesizer, a drum machine or even a groovebox.

All Peak Patches in this video were created from scratch. All Peak tracks were recorded through RME audio interfaces (Babyface Pro and Fireface UC) directly into Cubase stereo tracks. There are absolutely no effects on the individual Peak stereo tracks, not even panning, and levels are set to unity gain, to give an as-clear-as-possible impression of the Peak’s sonic potential and limits. On most parts (except intro), there is brickwall limiting on the stereo master, and on most multitrack parts also additional compression and EQ on the stereo master. Guitar parts recorded D.I. into the Fireface UC with a 1973 Stratocaster, several track and send FX on those.

"Here is my Day-One video of the Novation Peak. It's been a lot of fun to write and record this track, and it's refreshing to have the luxury of saving patches!
Note that I am playing on a Behringer DeepMind keyboard but it is purely being used as a controller keyboard for this track, all synth sounds are coming from the Peak.
You can find the track on Soundcloud here: https://soundcloud.com/tim-shoebridge..."
Note this the first post to feature the RECO-SYNTH Pogona 3.

1. Sunset Synthesizer - Eurorack and Moog Grandmother Brazilian Jams
Be welcome! I am very happy to have you here.
This is a challenge, I am looking for new timbres with my synthesizers, but I decided to look for them in different places, in this case it was a wonderful sunset in the city of Sorriso, Mato Grosso, Brazil.
All sounds, modification were created in real time. I used the Moog grandmother to make the bass, the Eurorack modular Vinicius Brazil to create the melogic part, the Novation Peak for the leads, and Pogona 3 by Arthur Joly to create the percussive part, the whole drum is 100% analog.
The melodies are coming through ableton live only this is digital. And of course this wonderful video captured by La Isla Filmes.
In this jam I used Vinicius Brazil's Wave Folder with Lizard 3. The sound it generates is just amazing. The drums used Arthur Joly's Pogona 3.
3. Quantum - LIVE SYNTH - Eurorack Modular, Moog Grandmother, Novation Peak and Ocean Verb.
I used a Motu microlite to connect Novation Peak, Moog Grandmother and my two modular synthesizers VB and Pogona 3. Ableton live only sends the signal via midi, the rest I did in real time by the synthesizers using the modulations and a WAVEFOLDER to create distortion. I love this!
4. LIVE SYNTH - Eurorack Modular, Moog Grandmother, Novation Peak
I used a Motu microlite to connect Novation Peak, Moog Grandmother and my two modular synthesizers VB and Pogona 3. Ableton live only sends the signal via midi, the rest I did in real time by the synthesizers using the modulations and a WAVEFOLDER to create one distortion.

Novation is proud and excited to announce the release of the Peak firmware 1.2 update. Firmware 1.2 adds a number of the most requested features from Peak users around the world, as well as all-new presets.
New wavetables
Massively increasing the range of Peak’s sonic palette, 43 new wavetables have been added to the Oscillator Wave menus.
Additional modulators
Peak 1.2 adds two freely assignable, non-voice-specific LFOs (bringing the total to four) to the Mod Matrix and new FX Matrix. Pitch-Bend is now also available as a modulation source, with Up (BendWhl+) and Down (BendWhl-) assignable as separate signals if required.
New Mod Matrix design
Workflow is greatly accelerated with Peak 1.2's updated Mod Matrix design, as sources and destinations are presented on the same page – no more toggling between them to make and edit assignments. And as a knock-on benefit, the Page button now enables quick access to all 16 modulation slots.
FX Mod Matrix
You demanded, Novation delivered! Peak 1.2 lets you route non-voice-specific modulation sources to Peak’s FX parameters in the new four-slot FX Mod Matrix. Now you can, for example, expand and contract a reverb with a rhythmic LFO, or automate delay time changes using an envelope.
New envelope features
Speaking of envelopes, Peak 1.2’s ADSRs sees the addition of a Hold stage (up to 500ms) and the ability to loop between the Attack and Decay stages. For many, this game-changing improvement alone will be reason enough to upgrade.
Initialise Manual Mode
Peak 1.2 gives you the option of maintaining the current positions of all knobs and sliders when the Initialise button is pressed, rather than resetting their parameters to defaults – ideal for getting instantly hands-on with new patches, and creating random ones from scratch. The previous behaviour can be reinstated in the Settings menu, of course, for those who prefer it.
Microtuning
Peak 1.2 also adds support for microtuning. 16 Tuning Tables can be edited and saved for recall within any patch, and automatic note selection makes MIDI note-to-pitch assignment a snap.
New presets
Available in Components, new Soundpacks from Patricia Wolf and GForce Software showcasing the new features of Firmware 1.2, as well as the sonic power and versatility of Peak in general.
Availability
Reaching new heights of sound design potential, Peak’s 1.2 firmware update will be available from the 19th December 2018 as a free download in the Components content manager."

A look on the new wavetables on Novation Peak.
Zero effects (apart from minute 7.00)
One oscillator at 100% volume (at minute 7.00 I add a second OSC with sine wave at 70% volume).
Waveshaping on each wavetable and filter on some of them.
With the 1.2 update, they have made the Peak one of the best modern Polysynth, in my opinion. New LFOs, dedicate effect mod matrix with four slots and many other things, just WOW.
Enjoy!
(sorry for the crooked video)
2. Novation Peak Ambient Sequence
I made this chilling sequence to show how the modulation matrix of the Peak, with the right filter configuration, can change the sound we are making.
Yes, I’ve watched too many Knobs’ videos.
3. Strymon Volante with Novation Peak synthesizer
Some sequences made with Arturia Keystep and Novation Peak to show how beautiful is the Volante delay.
Enjoy :D
