Introducing Basimilus Iteritas, Manis Iteritas, and Debel Iteritas on Alia oscillator platform

video upload by Noise Engineering

"Unlock the full potential of your Alia with alternate firmware, resources, and more.

Check out the World of Alia, our new oscillator platform here: https://bit.ly/497xrsk

Alia is a 10HP oscillator platform and is the new home for your favorite Noise Engineering sounds, both classic and new. Turn your module into Basimilus Iteritas, our legendary percussive powerhouse; Manis Iteritas, a dark industrial techno machine; or Debel Iteritas, an additive PM voice inspired by yesteryear, or maybe even something completely different as new firmwares are released.

Firmware is always free for Alia owners, so swap out your sound whenever you need a new vibe. Alia has something for everyone."

Press release follows:

"Noise Engineering debuts Alia, bringing Basimilus, Manis, and all-new Debel voices to a swappable oscillator platform

Los Angeles, CA — Digital-forward modular synthesizer company Noise Engineering has announced Alia, a new 10HP oscillator platform module. With Alia, the team brings back Basimilus and Manis, two of their beloved synth voices. Alia also launched with a whole new synth voice, Debel Iteritas Alia, a unique hybrid take on phase modulation and additive synthesis.

The previous incarnation of the Iteritas modules was discontinued a few months ago when the processor it was built on was end-of-lifed. “We lived in fear of that development for years, but we didn’t have a viable alternative. We had been thinking about a way off of that processor for some time, but when the part was EOLed, we got motivated. It was a long time before we were confident we could make it work, though,” said Kris Kaiser, Doer of Many Things at Noise Engineering.

The revamped Basimilus Iteritas Alia and Manis Iteritas Alia have a near identical sound to the originals, and a few added features. “When we had to discontinue the BIA and the Manis, quite a few customers reached out asking us to bring them back,” says Markus Cancilla, Noise Engineering’s Chief of Destruction. “The new Alia platform allowed us to bring back our old favorites with a few improvements, and experiment with entirely new concepts, too.”

The platform concept will be a familiar feature to Noise Engineering’s customers. The Versio lineup introduced the idea of swappable firmware to the Noise Engineering ecosystem in 2020, and now has 9 different FX firmwares now available for the platform. Legio followed as a smaller platform in 6HP now with four firmwares. Alia follows suit, launching with three firmwares available and even more on the way, according to NE. As with the existing Versio and Legio platforms, firmware is free for Alia owners and swappable at any time from their Customer Portal. The team expects to offer hot swappable overlays for the different Alia firmwares in the near future.

Along with the return of the BIA and the Manis, the Debel Iteritas Alia is a completely new synth voice based around an additive phase-modulation architecture. Debel continues Noise

Engineering’s reputation for putting a huge amount of timbral range behind a small number of parameters, and bringing new ideas in synthesis to an easy-to-navigate interface. It uses a few different configurations of four-operator PM with each operator comprising four oscillators. Traditional FM sounds are easy to create, but can be instantly brought into entirely new territory with the tweak of a parameter or some external CV. Also in line with Noise Engineering’s ethos of not taking themselves too seriously, Debel features Taco, Nacho, and Diablo modes. “The name and the panel have about a million inside jokes. We had a lot of fun with this firmware,” said Stephen McCaul, Chief Noisemaker.

All three firmwares are available as paneled modules. Basimilus Iteritas Alia, Manis Iteritas Alia, and Debel Iteritas Alia are available for preorder now at https://noiseengineering.us and at retailers globally, shipping October 26, 2023.

"Incus Iteritas Alia is available now: https://bit.ly/4b0koJW

Incus Iteritas Alia smashes big and bold sounds into your patches. Incus started as a percussion voice, and was smelted into something even wilder: create kicks for any genre, snares, and metallic hits, or go melodic and create FM plucks, analog-style basslines, and so much more. Incus uses a combination of waveshaping, saturation, wavefolding, FM, and additive synthesis, plus a slew of internal modulation, all behind easy-to-use parameters perfect for jamming.

Both FM and additive synthesis can be quite complex, but Incus uses a simple set of controls to keep things straightforward."

Press release follows:

"Los Angeles, CA — Modular synthesizer company Noise Engineering, known for their innovative Eurorack modules, has announced three additions to their Alia oscillator platform: Ataraxic Iteritas Alia, Cursus Iteritas Alia, and Incus Iteritas Alia.

In 2023, Noise Engineering released the 10HP Alia platform, marking the return of their Iteritas oscillators. Alia launched with the famed Basimilus Iteritas firmware, along with Manis Iteritas and the new Debel Iteritas, but the team promised firmwares in the near future.

Now, Noise Engineering has delivered, doubling the number of firmwares available for Alia. Cursus Iteritas Alia and Ataraxic Iteritas Alia are revamped versions of the originals, promising to sound nearly identical to the originals with improved encoder tuning, a suboscillator output, and a performable Hold button. Incus Iteritas Alia is an all-new voice based around wavemorphing additive FM, designed for percussive and melodic sound design.

Since Alia is an oscillator platform, owners of existing Alias can try out all three of the new firmwares on their modules. Firmware is 100% free and swappable at any time from the Noise Engineering Customer Portal. With six firmwares now available for the platform, the Alia is an excellent choice for those who want an incredibly diverse yet compact sound source in their system. Swappable overlays for all firmwares are also available from the Noise Engineering webshop and retailers around the world.

The new Incus Iteritas Alia is an exciting addition to the lineup, utilizing Noise Engineering’s favorite synthesis tricks and techniques to create a new voice boasting a massive range of timbres. Sounds are created with a combination of additive, wavemorphing, and FM synthesis, with three different algorithms all controlled by an internal dynamics envelope. Users familiar with the Basimilus will find that Incus has a similar workflow, and while it can synthesize the best parts of a drum kit, it’s also well-suited to bass and melodic duties.

As usual for their platforms, all of the new firmwares are available as paneled modules, so customers can choose the panel they prefer. Ataraxic Iteritas Alia, Cursus Iteritas Alia, and Incus Iteritas Alia are available now at https://noiseengineering.us and at retailers globally.

Availability and pricing:

Noise Engineering NAMM 2018 Announcements - New Eurorack & 5U

Coming Soon: Spring 2018 releases Published on Jan 22, 2018 Noise Engineering

Coming soon: Mimetic Digitalis Published on Jan 22, 2018
"NAMM 2018 teaser for the upcoming Mimetic Digitalis. MD is a CV step sequencer that allows a shit ton of control."

Additional details via Noise Engineering:

"The NAMM Show (the National Association of Music Merchants) is upon us once again. If you have no idea what this is, it's an annual trade show extravaganza held each January in Anaheim. Last year, over 100,000 people passed through the Anaheim Convention Center according to their tally. That's to say: it's big.

In preparation for NAMM this year, Stephen and I are giving you, our illustrious blog readers, the first glimpse at our NAMM roll-outs this year. This year, we've got a larger booth, and we'll have some great people helping out showing off our gear. Stop by and say hello to us and our pals! We're in booth 10702 in the A wing. You'll know you're close when you find modular synthesizer mayhem.

We're focusing on the items we plan to push in the first quarter of 2018 (but we'll have lots of the older stuff on hand if you're still looking to try it out!). This quarter's crop includes a few small, focused, utility modules:

Bin Seq: a 4 HP switchable gate sequencer.

Muta Jovis: 4 HP switchable quad mute. Works well with Noise Eng rhythm generators such as Numeric Repetitor and Zularic Repetitor.

Soleo Vero: that 4 HP tuner we've been talking about for a while? It's coming! A patch-through stroboscope tuner. Tune up to three oscillators without having to patch/unpatch. The stroboscope makes it possible to tune without sound on!

Of course we have a couple of other goodies:

Clep Diaz: 4 HP Complex/multimode CV generator. Use Clep Diaz to generate stepped, random, or LFO CVs where you have control over directionality of the CV (up, up/down, or down) and over the nature of the CV signal:

In Step & Rand mode, choose the number of steps in the cycle

In LFO mode, control the amplitude of the LFO

Mimetic Digitalis: 10 HP 16-step two-dimensional CV sequencer optimized for live use. At its simplest, MD is a simple two-dimensional 16-step sequencer with 4 CV outs and a trigger out. Pause the clock to individually program each step...or...
use the encoder to live edit patterns
zero any step or combination of patterns with the Zero button
create a randomized, rhythmic CV with the Shred button
Edit to your heart's content, and return to your initial pattern (like a chorus!) with the touch of a button.
And it wouldn't be a Noise Eng product if we didn't give you lots of CV control!

But that's not all. At NAMM, we're also showing our foray into the 5U format. We'll have Basimilus Iteritas Magnus on hand, but we are pleased to announced that we will be releasing three of our oscillators: Basimilus Iteritas Magnus, Cursus Iteritas Magnus, and Manis Iteritas Magnus in 5U. Look for those for simultaneous release in the next few months. For those of you paying attention, a portion of the proceeds from the Manis Iteritas Magnus, like the Eurorack version Manis Iteritas, will be donated to Save Pangolins.org. Buy a module, save an endangered species!

And finally, we are announcing the release of ten limited-edition, unique 60-hp cases. Each case is handmade of aluminum and will come with a power supply and a different, bespoke set of Noise Engineering modules. Available only at www.noiseengineering.us, cases will be released over the next few months. Watch our social media and mailing list for details.

We're looking forward to seeing a lot of users and retailers at NAMM. If you're at the show, please stop by and say hello! We're at booth 10702.

Ambient techno track: Basimilus Iteritas Alter, Manis Iteritas, Imitor/Desmodus Versio, Polyend Seq

video upload by Thoow

"Finally a new Desmodus Versio is back in my rack. Now Imitor Versio and Desmodus Versio are united again after months of separation. Such a strong duo...

In this patch I sequenced Erica Synths Bassline, Basimilus Iteritas Alter, and Manis Iteritas with the Polyend Seq. The later two are then send through the Erica Synths Fusion VCF3 filter into Imitor Versio and Desmodus Versio. All modules are heavily modulated by different LFOs. Again I use the O_C to randomly filter out certain triggers for Basimilus Iteritas Alter, and Manis Iteritas. The chance parameter is also modulated by an LFO."

"Check out POB's dark and ethereal modular synth set putting the Manis voice into Desmodus Versio. After patching through Nive Grad to change levels, our angry signal gets to Batverb, our stereo tail generator.

Voice 1: Manis Iteritas Alia, sequenced by Gamut Repetitor generative sequencer, going through Desmodus Versio, before being sent through Nive Grad to Batverb.

Voice 2: Debel Iteritas Alia, through Roucha Legio stereo filter, then through Fala Versio, which is being LFO-modulated by Opp Ned.

Voice 3: Basimilus Iteritas Alia, being sequenced by Bin Seq.

If you’re a fan of our Eurorack products, you may notice some similarities between Batverb and Desmodus Versio. And it’s true: they share some similarly named controls, and a lot of their respective inspiration came from the same place. However, Batverb shares none of its code with Desmodus. It was completely written from the ground up as an entirely new product.

All the details on Batverb: https://noiseengineering.us/products/...

Batverb blog post: https://noiseengineering.us/blogs/loq...

We’re close to Desmodus’s five-year anniversary, and in that time we’ve learned a lot about reverb. Desmodus is still one of our favorite products we’ve ever released, but the knowledge we’ve gained allowed us to design Batverb to work particularly well with dynamic, polyphonic instruments like guitars as well as synths and the occasional saxophone. One of the first tests we did in early Batverb R&D was to plug a guitar into Desmodus Versio. It sounded nice, but, just like Desmodus was designed to play off of Eurorack’s strengths, we knew we wanted things to be different for a guitar-focussed product.

Listen to Batverb stereo reverb pedal with modular and hardware synths: • Listen to Batverb stereo reverb pedal... [2nd video here]

One major change between the products is that Batverb uses no delay-line modulation, resulting in a sound that’s more transparent – if you want it to be. Timbre shaping is done with five parameters: Hi Pass and Lo Pass allow you to filter the reverb tail into whatever space you’d like it to fill, Doom and Shimmer add low- and high-end content, and Grit makes things as clean or crunchy as you’d like.

Ambient track with Vermona Perfourmer, BIA, Manis Iteritas, Zoia, Euroburo, Syntakt and Polyend Seq

video upload by Thoow

"First track I recorded with the new setup, that I would consider as a permanent installation. The main sequencer is the Polyend Seq, that drives the Eurorack (Erica Synths Bassline, Basimilus Iteritas Alter, Manis Iteritas) and the Vermona Performer. All drums from the Vermona DRM1, sequenced by the Digitakt. Another Bassline is added from the Syntakt.

The Polyend Seq is not only beautiful - the eight tracks and 32 steps are a great visual guidance of what is happening. But (since it is an old and abandoned device) it has it limitations. Like probability. To counter this, I send the triggers for the two main voices through Ornament & Crime in the Branches mode and use two very slow LFOs to change the probability percentage over time. Further LFOs control lots of other parameters to keep the tracking along the 32 step pattern alive. All 8 tracks no the Seq are setup in different length, timings and directions to add another layer of change and randomness. I use the Polyend Poly 2, to connect the Seq with the rack. Works like a charm.

Basimilus Iteritas Alter and Manis Iteritas are then send trough the Zoia Euroburo in an easy delay and reverb patch I created.

"In this demo, we announce and walk through the three Rack Extensions coming to Reason from Noise Engineering, all based on our Eurorack modules.

0:06 Introduction to product
0:27 Basimilus Iteritas
2:51 Manis Iteritas
4:55 Loquelic Iteritas Percido
6:47 Mini-jam

Basimilus Iteritas was originally designed to be a universal drum but is really suitable for leads & bass too.

Manis Iteritas is based on the original Basimilus but is a bit more industrial sounding.

Loquelic Iteritas Percido is all about the lasers and space farts. Yeah, you read that right.

All three will be available together in Synth Bundle 1, coming soon to the Propellerhead Shop. More information there and at our website:
