Syntrx II: Say hello to my little friends
video upload by Richard DeHove
"The Syntrx II is typically marketed as a type of modular synth and with many modular performances there's no keyboard. My Syntrx skills aren't at the "no keyboard" level yet so as a variation I thought why not use that versatile star of many situations, the trusty DB-01? It has a keyboard mode and while I'm at it I can feed the signal into the Syntrx.
So a few quick pokes of the matrix and the DB-01 was alive as a source. Even better the DB-01 controls were affecting the Syntrx tones in some FM-ish way. In fact all the DB-01 parameters were doing something to the main pitch!
So that was very interesting and over the course of a couple of hours I tried to isolate and refine the effect. I failed utterly. The more I fiddled the muddier it got. So I went back to the original and this is the result. Truly I don't know what's going on here but it worked. And instead of tweaking the knobs on the Syntrx all the tweaking happens on the DB-01. The sound has definite DB-01 flavors yet is clearly beyond what the DB-01 could do alone.
The routing I attempted was for the processed DB-01 signal to go out of the Syntrx and into the Zen. The core Syntrx sound went through the internal reverb of the Syntrx then to the DAW. So there's two stereo pairs. The sound is exactly as you see it - there has been absolutely no EQ, compression or effects added.
The video is my mashup of two US civil defense videos from the 1950s.

KadImprov #22 Ambient Soundscape | 80's vibe-ProphetRev2 | Mother32 | Syntrx | Moogerfooger
video upload by KadiMusic
"Title: 'Wandering in a Daydream'
To create the dreamy and weightless atmosphere I wanted in my soundscape, I started by creating a melody on the Moog Mother-32 and sending the CV to my Syntrx. I used Oscillator 1 on the Syntrx to create an airy arpeggio-like sound sending it through the reverb of the Syntrx, while Oscillator 2 was used as a distortion effect.
Once I had the foundation of the soundscape, I added the #Moogerfooger with additional subtle accents that gave the #soundscape more character. The Prophet Rev2 was the final piece of the puzzle, adding the chords as finishing touches to the sounds of the Mother-32 and #Syntrx.
Also I tried out the Chow Tape Model vst on the Prophet to give it an 80's lo-fi vibe.
Overall, I was pleased to explore some sounds with the Moogerfooger and to create an interesting routing on the Syntrx for this track.
Thanks for watching and thanks for your support! 🙂👋"

Syntrx II: First patch
video upload by Richard DeHove
"A few years back almost all my hardware was modular gear. A beautiful 15u all-black monster. A wondrous thing it was with a most fetching array of clock-synced lights. Problem was I never made any music with it. It was lots of fun arranging the modules though. I still have about 80hp left of a few favorites I couldn't part with: Interstellar Radio, the Erica LFOs and some utilities.
I mention this because the Syntrx II is often described as a modular system in a box. Sections are "patched" via the matrix. I've had the Syntrx for an embarrassingly long time and never done anything with it other than admire its good looks. In fact I sold my OB-6 to help pay for it. Yet somehow it just hasn't called.
So here's my first attempt at coherent sound. It took a day to get going. Figuring how to clear the matrix and patch anything took several hours. A couple of hours after that and we have this. It's not much. I tried to get a stereo field happening - and succeeded briefly - then somehow lost it. I was also getting excellent low rubber resonance swells but somehow lost them as well by the time I was ready to record. I battled for quite a while to stop overloading the filter and that seems to have worked.
So I certainly wouldn't say it's easy to get going. Of course that's just me. So far there's nothing here that other reasonably deep synths couldn't do. I know the Syntrx can go way deeper, but I don't want to just make random complex noise. Perhaps the question is how complex can you get while staying somewhat musical? And where is your own subjective boundary of music?
I wasn't going to upload this as I wasn't very happy with it, but then I thought its value is as an example of a 'first try' with a complex machine.
As usual there is no processing or effects other than what you see - the Syntrx itself. The only other element are the vocal samples which are taken from one of my favorite B-grade sci-fi movies: The Time Travellers (1964). It has an excellent score btw.

Superbooth 22: Erica Synths - Syntrx 2
video upload by sonicstate
Peter Zinovieff on the orignal SYNTRX
"Girts showed us the rather lovely Syntrx 2, and showed us round the refined and expanded features.
Building on their experience from the original Syntrx, this incarnation now has more accurate oscillators with octave switches and manual or CV controlled wave shaping, which allows for PWM. There is also a newly designed dual high-pass and low-pass filter allowing for enhanced filtering flexibility. There are digital FX developed in collaboration with Dutch Company 112 Decibel, and the joystick motion is now recordable.
Available: July - August
Syntrx 2 Price: 1800 euros"

Erica Synths EMS SYNTHI Inspired SYNTRX
"Since its beginnings Erica Synths has promoted experimental electronic music and has developed instruments that enable musicians to explore it.
When it comes to standalone instruments, we think, one of most encouraging instruments in experimental music was Synthi AKS, so we teamed up with engineers from Riga Technical University to develop a synthesizer with a user interface inspired by Synthi AKS.
SYNTRX [sintrex] is developed from scratch all analogue synthesizer (no part of schematics is cloned from Synthi AKS) with digitally controlled patch matrix. Unlike most of patch matrixes around, that mechanically connect signals, our 16x16 matrix utilizes 32 (!!!) 8 channel analogue switch ICs AS16M1 (made in Latvia, Alfa RPAR) and is a mixer/buffered multiple with 3 level attenuation (gain 1, 0,6 and 0,3) in connection points. It has 256 patch memory, automatic patch switching in performance mode or via MIDI messages.
SYNTRX has 3 highly accurate VCOs that track great over 8 octaves, noise generator with “colour” filter, resonant VCF, ring modulator, spring reverb, looping envelope generator, joystick controller, input amplifier with adjustable gain for microphone to line level signals, 3 VCAs, output signal filter, analogue CV/audio signal level indicator and built in speakers. Extra features, not found on Synthi AKS, are Sample & Hold circuit with individual clock, octave switch for VCO1, synchronization of VCO2, AD mode on the envelope generator, as well as MIDI that accepts CV, Gate, Modulation wheel messages and program change messages for the matrix control. The SYNTRX comes in aluminium enclosure with ash tree side panels.
We believe, it will inspire users to explore the space and travel to previously undiscovered audible realms.
Limited run of SYNTRX will be available at the end of 2019 priced at 2500EUR (VAT excluded) .
If you want to be among the first ones to have them, drop a line to eliza@ericasynths.lv"

Destroying drums for Aphex Twin's - Ventolin, with the Erica Synths Syntrx II and Roland R8
video upload by Bleeps and Boops
"Something no-one asked for but it's here anyway... I was fascinated by the idea of Richard processing drums in things like the MS20, but rather than go down that route I figured I'd have a go at Ventolin using the spiritual ancestor of the EMS Synthi, the Erica Synths Syntrx II.
Chapters below -

1:30 Thought process and motivation
3:17 Syntrx II Demos
8:17 Parts for Ventolin
11:00 Track!
It's not 100% (obviously) and I didn't go to the trouble of changing the parts up too much. I think the drums are samples - there are bits in the original that sound like they're being played backwards which gives the game away - but the Syntrx is way more than 'just' a monosynth, and makes some very weird sounds so I sort of went with it."

Syntrx II + Solar 42f (Dark) Jam | 2024-09-24 // Solar 42f + SyntrX II + H90
video upload by Jess From Square One
"1st attempt to marry Erica Synths SyntrX II to Elta Music Solar 42f.
The SynthrX Oscillator 2 receives CV from the Solar plates keyboard, which alters the programmed SyntrX step sequence.
Solar 42f VCO A and B dry outs are processed externally by Eventide H90, while the other Solar oscillators (voice 1,2,4,5,6) go through the onboard FX processor."

Short Waves - SYNTRX and Korg SQ-64, NTS-1 Synth Demo
video upload by Robert Saint John
"Here’s a short poppy piece summing up my weeks of experimenting with the ins and outs of the @EricaSynths Syntrx, the @KorgOfficial NTS-1, and the SQ-64 sequencer. Two paraphonic tracks from the chain-patterned SQ-64 via CV to Syntrx, and a third via MIDI to the NTS-1 equipped with @Sinevibes very cool GROOVE DSP drum machine engine. Ring mod on Syntrx with OSC3 and the messy input from a shortwave radio for some grit, all out to the NTS-1 for reverb and delay. Recorded direct with Roland GO:Mixer Pro X."

ERICA SYNTHS SYNTRX // EMS SYNTHI A SYTLE MATRIX SYNTH // IBANEZ UE-305 ANALOG MULTI FX
video upload by LESINDES
"New to my studio ERICA SYNTHS SYNTRX. A synth basically inspired by EMS SYNTHI A. Erica has presented a black und more reasonably priced version 2 of SYNTRX with enhanced features but I think this one gets closer to the original. In the new one there a digital multi FX unit instead of the classic spring reverb and also filters were told to be different...
This was the first time I ever played this type of synth. I did not have not even a software model to train with. Since it is a bit unusaul to connect the components of this synth via matrix (nothing prewired as in other semi modular synths like ARP 2600 or ARTURIA MATRIXBRUTE ) it tok me a while to be productive.
SYNTRX with a littel help from IBANEZ UE-305: analog delay and chorus.
No keyboard. Only one patch + joy stick action. Internal
spring reverb is doing a very good job.
This is an amazing instrument!

SUPERBOOTH 2022 day 1 // Erica Synths Perkons & Syntrx II // Polyend Play
video upload by Dave Mech
"First time attending Superbooth and really loving the vibe so far. Very relaxed. This first day I took it easy and just played with a few things and explored the terrain. Here are the main things I checked out: Erica Synths Perkons (it's like it was created specifically for people lik me) and Syntrx II, and Polyend's newest creation called Play.
I'm just noodling with them but hopefully it will give you some idea of what they are capable of.
