E-MU SYSTEMS DRUMULATOR PAD PROGRAMMER SN 314

via this auction
"The extremely rare E-MU Pad Programmer consists of four independent trigger sensors with appropriate circuitry, with a common housing and power supply. The power supply is a simple three terminal regulator +5V supply. The input voltage is between 8 and 25 VDC and the current requirements are small enough (around 40 mA when an LED is firing, less quiescently) that heat sinking is not required. The plug in wall unit supplies nominally 10V DC, which is filtered and regulated. The sensor is a piezo-electric crystal mounted in a housing designed to transmit pressure from a vertical strike by a drumstick, and attenuate vibrations conducted by the housing. This assembly is glued together and tested at the factory. Service on these assemblies will generally be by replacement, as repairs are difficult to accomplish and will frequently be unreliable. The sensor produces a substantial voltage spike (10 to 100+ volts), which is loaded by a parallel capacitor and resistor, and rectified by a full wave bridge. The resulting positive voltage is attenuated and applied to one terminal of a comparator. The other terminal of the comparator is adjusted for the desired sensitivity threshold. The trim range is set to stay within the common mode range of the comparator. Positive feedback around the comparator is provided to minimize marginal switching. The comparator output triggers a one-shot which will both swallow any comparator oscillation or multiple triggering, and provide sufficient pulse width for the LED amplifier and for the output trigger pulse. Both of these signals are buffered from the one-shot output.

Probably the most rare and sought after vintage E-MU piece out there, and the most hard to track down besides the E-MU modulator system. The EMU Drumulator Pad Programmer allows you to program the Drumulator (or other drum machines with standard CMOS 5V trigger inputs) in real time with ordinary drumsticks. I was able to trigger my Forat F-16 drum brain with no problems and have a blast, in addition to the Drumulator, so it's very versatile. You can also trigger an analog modular with this unit. If you're an E-MU collector this is not a unit you can pass up. It could be years before you find another one. There weren't too many of these units ever made, and if you can find one it is probably very beat up and not working. This unit is in very good condition. Also the original magazine ad for the Drumulator Pad Programmer is included. This unit was purchased from "Roger Dodger Music", a Minneapolis based keyboard/synthesizer dealer. This may be the only time to snag the E-MU Pad Programmer, as they never come up for sale. The last one came up in 2007on Ebay and didn't work. If you have been waiting for years for one of these units to become available, now here is your chance. Owned by non-smoker without kids and pets.

This auction is for the E-MU Pad Programmer only. Please see my other auctions for the mint Drumulator shown."

1979 EMS SYNTHI E VINTAGE SYNTHESIZER SN 7137 & SYNTHI-E SAVES THE DAY COMIC STRIP

Note: links to listings are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.
via this auction

SYNTH-E Saves the Day comic strip and pics of the inside below.

"For your consideration is this vintage 1979 Electronic Music Studios (EMS) Synthi-E analog synthesizer. Experts have estimated that this incredibly rare synth was produced in limited numbers, in fact, most approximate that less than 200 were manufactured. Of those that have been documented, it is difficult to find a better example, especially such a fine specimen with the original matching DKE keyboard (serial number 7137) and original patch cables. While highly collectible Synthi-A versions are somewhat accessible, the Synthi-E is virtually E-xtinct. Do not miss this opportunity own one of the coolest and rarest synths ever made, because it is possible another will not appear available on eBay for years to come.

The Synthi-E was designed by Tim Orr as an educational version of the Synthi that had a complete teaching course built around it for use in schools. It was intended as a teaching aid into the principles of sound synthesis and electronic music. Small, housed in a brief-case and D-battery powered, the Synthi E was perfect for the student or teacher on the go! Simple as it may appear, it actually has some sophisticated features:

-Input Amplifier with low (Microphone) and high (line) level inputs
-Envelope Follower providing a voltage proportional to the amplitude of the input
-Oscillator 1 with true exponential voltage control of frequency and three simultaneous output waveforms (sine, triangle and voltage controlled pulse)
-Oscillator 2 for slow control voltages such as glissando or vibrato
-Filter/Oscillator 3 with v.c. low, high and band pass filter or pure sine wave
-Modulator for envelope shaping or ring modulation
-Noise Generator
-Trapezoid Generator for multiple simultaneous trapezoid waveforms. These may be used for envelope shaping (trigger mode) or for low frequency waveforms (free run mode)
-Manual-Slide tape Controllers (2) for obtaining control voltages. One slide-tape is stepped and may be used as a keyboard and the other for variable control. One provides a trigger pulse. Both may be temporarily marked or written on
-Inverter to invert control voltages or signals
-Monitor Amplifier and Loudspeaker with two input mixer faders
-The optional 3-octave keyboard for controlling the Synthi E. This unit is a mechanical keyboard which plugs into the Synthi E. It provides the correct pitch voltage and trigger signal for the Trapezoid Generator. A switch on the Synthi E selects internal or external keyboard operation.

Modules:
- VCF 144/1 (Issue F)
- VCF 144/2 (Issue F)
- L.F. OSC 144/3 (Issue E)
- Input Amp Env followr 144/4 (Issue E)
- TRAPZD GEN 144/5 (Issue F)
- VCA O/P AMP 144/6 (Issue G)

This unit is in excellent working condition, and it sounds incredible."

1. Osmose sound design work in progress #1
Shot beginning of March 2020 at the Expressive E office, this video is giving a sneak peek at the current state of 8 sounds that our in-house sound designers are programming using the EaganMatrix by Haken Audio, the synth engine that will be internal to Osmose.

These sounds range from different categories such as classic synth sounds, FM keys, cinematic pads, lo-fi experiments and crazy effects, all taking advantage of the new keybed interactions offered by Expressive E's Augmented Keyboard Action©.

Audio recorded at 44,1kHz, 24bit with a Native Instruments Komplete Audio Mk1 without further processing.

While development of the industrialized prototype is going according to plan, the unit shown is still the same prototype unit that appeared in earlier videos. Creating it involved 3d printing techniques as well as manual labour by our engineers, meaning that you can see some irregularities in the keybed. The final, industrialized model will certainly not show such tolerances and will feature a flawless, even keybed

circuit bent e-mu xl7 command station w/ mm1 module

via this auction
also see this post
"this auction is for the circuit bent emu command station and the mm1 midi module the unit was purchased as a brand new instrument. the previous owner said the command station was used for only a few hours. i have confirmed this and the unit internally is pristine. all knobs, buttons, outputs, velo pads, ribbon, etc are in pristine shape and just like new. the outer shell was painted and salvaged from a emu mp-7. internally it is a xl7 and is absolutely in mint shape. i've had this unit for a few weeks now and can confirm everything is working perfectly both in mm1 and emu command station. this is a one-off offer and most likely will be the only one in existence

the following audio is several drum tracks played in realtime with a simple appegiator programmed for each sound. the emu sports 32 independant arpeggiators. the drums are then circuit bent and leads into a formant synth texture controlled with a wind controller.

Moon Modular 565E Quantizer Controller

Note: links to listings are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via NOISEBUG Reverb

"The module format follows industry standard (synthesizers.com/ Moog/Curetronic/Mos-Lab etc.)

Module Size: 1 unit space

The M 565 E Quantizer Controller allows to limit the output voltages generated by the M 565 v2 Quad Quantizer to any desired key, chord or note interval.

Using the array of 12 keyboard-like arranged toggle switches on the right, notes can be activated or deactivated in any combination.

The adjusted scale works over the whole quantizing range of the M 565 (10 octaves), and controls all four quantizing-units in parallel.

Up to two M 565 E Quantizer Controller modules can be connected to a single M 565 v2, which allows two different keys/scales to be used at once.

Quantizer 1 and 2 depend on the first quantizer controller, quantizer 3 and 4 on the second. The 12-position rotary switch transposes the output voltages of the connected quantizer(s) in semitone increments to the desired key

A M 565 v1 Quad Quantizer module can be updated to a v2, then allowing the connection of M 565 E Controller Modules.

Configuration of the M 565 Quantizer connected to one M 565 E controller module:

Option 1
M 565 E controls all four channels of the M 565 v2
Connect cable to the 565 v2‘s „Expander 1“ slot,
do not remove the jumper on the M 565 E.

Option 2
M 565 E controls only channel 3 and 4 of the M 565 v2
Connect cable to the 565 v2‘s „Expander 2“ slot, remove the jumper on the M 565 E.

Configuration of the M 565 Quantizer connected to two M 565 E controller modules:

The first M 565 E controls channel 1 and 2,
the second M 565 E controls channel 3 and 4

Do not remove the jumper on the first M 565 E,
connect cable to the 565 v2‘s „Expander 1“ slot.

Remove the jumper on the second M 565 v2,
connect cable to the 565 v2‘s „Expander 2“ slot."

Last Call for The Schmidt!

If you have $25,000 to spare and want a Schmidt, now is the time! Just be sure to send some support my way for the tip.

"e:m:c calls last orders for final 25-unit production run of Schmidt subtractive super-synth

'I feel really honoured that musicians around the world love the Schmidt Eightvoice Polyphonic Synthesizer, which simply started as a small-scale bass synthesizer project before I took a chance on building the synthesizer of my dreams. That e:m:c has decided to build another 25 units of this exclusive — and expensive — instrument makes me proud!'

- Stefan Schmidt, 2016

LANGENAU, GERMANY: e:m:c (electronic music components) — German distributor of several key electronic musical instrument brands, including Mellotron (Sweden), Moog (USA), Vintage Vibe (USA), and MIDI Solutions (Canada) — is proud to announce that it is taking orders on a second self-financed (and final) 25-unit build run of the exclusive (and expensive) Schmidt Eightvoice Polyphonic Synthesizer, surely one of the most ambitious analogue synthesizer projects ever undertaken...

The no-expense-spared Schmidt Eightvoice Polyphonic Synthesizer was, without doubt, a showstopper when namesake hardware and software designer Stefan Schmidt’s hand-crafted first prototype unit debuted at Musikmesse 2011 in Frankfurt, Germany. Within a year it was being shipped Stateside for its first proper public airing at The NAMM Show 2012 in Anaheim, California. Indeed, it is somewhat fitting that following a repeat performance at The NAMM Show 2013 that same super-synth prototype made its way over to Santa Monica for an audience with none other than Hollywood hotshot Hans Zimmer, one of the most successful, influential, and prolific film composers of all time with a sumptuous synthesizer-filled studio setup second to none! It’s still there... the rest, as they say, is history.

History has it, then, that the Schmidt Eightvoice Polyphonic Synthesizer is quite possibly the most expensive analogue eight-voice polyphonic synthesizer the world has yet seen and heard. Hardly surprising given the investment involved in its drawn-out development, both in terms of funding and man hours. Hardly the stuff of commercial viability in an accepted age of market value-driven optimisation, often resulting in compromised products. Put it this way, though: this is the synthesizer that Stefan Schmidt always dreamed of, created against all odds without any compromises whatsoever (with more than a little help from friends Axel Hartmann — co-founder and owner of renowned industrial designers designbox, whose distinctive design talents took the Schmidt Eightvoice Polyphonic Synthesizer prototype to another level entirely, thanks to some serious funding from e:m:c President Stefan Hund).

But bolstered by those tradeshow successes, supported by his partners at e:m:c, Stefan Schmidt set about putting his dream synthesizer into (build-to- order) production. A limited run of 25 units was admirably announced. Anyone arguing about its ‘second-tier’ five-figure price point probably couldn’t afford one. But bear in mind that those that could were buying into a thoroughbred analogue eight-voice polyphonic synthesizer with a fully- analogue signal path (with precise digital control) that’s truly a sound designer’s dream machine.

More meaningfully, a quick glance at its complex four-oscillator structure should be more than enough to convince even the most skilled synthesist that the Schmidt Eightvoice Polyphonic Synthesizer is capable of creating complex timbres that go way beyond the capabilities of conventional analogue synthesizers. Speaking of which, Oscillator 4 is worthy of special mention. Thanks to its chain of five ring modulators fed by six pulse-waves, each with different pulse-widths, it can create colder, wavetable-like sounds — despite being fully analogue. These truly unique features are hitherto unheard of in any analogue synthesizer, let alone an analogue polysynth! Subtractive synthesis clearly knows no bounds here, helping to make the Schmidt Eightvoice Polyphonic Synthesizer a shining example of no-expense-spared synthesizer design, deploying discrete sound generation circuitry throughout — no integrated oscillator/filter circuits on a single chip, for instance — in keeping with the highest possible production standards, while each and every parameter is directly accessible via dedicated controls on a seriously spacious front panel to die for.

Fortunately, for Stefan Schmidt and his supportive e:m:c production partners, all 25 units subsequently sold; Hans Zimmer would not be the only seriously satisfied Schmidt Eightvoice Polyphonic Synthesizer owner, after all. And that could so easily have been the happy ending to this success story, with the Schmidt Eightvoice Polyphonic Synthesizer surely going down in the annals of history as one of the bravest moves in electronic musical instrument design as a bold statement that flies in the face of the fast-paced and superficial age we unfortunately find ourselves living in today.

Today, though, with 25 instruments already hand-crafted in Germany and duly delivered to seriously satisfied owners around the world, e:m:c is proud to announce that it will be building a final batch of 25 more. Maintains"

-heavy duty toggles activates rotary patchbay connections

-db25 connector added- adds the option of expanding the e-mu commandstation units with the spunkytoofers mm1 midi module.

connector supplies power to the mm1 as well as allows circuit bending over midi via added midi circuitry.

all spunkytoofers instruments are now all compatible with mm1.

mm1 is sold seperately.

-unit is expandable with up to 3 more e-mu rom cards

-2 blue jewel lenses with bright blue lighting

-solid build and and quality components used throughout

-unit in superb shape. all functions work perfectly.

very light cosmetic scuffs but not very noticeable. unit was cleaned throughly after assembly.

don't have a way to check the optical output but should be fine.

-comes with power cord, bend diagram, and original owners manual

-support and warranty work covered for modifications

the e-mu command stations are perfect companions for the mm1 for a centerpiece for modular circuit bending over midi. there is no better way to sequence all your circuit bent devices than starting with one of the most powerful hardware sequencers ever made. modular sequencing and circuit bending is all possible through the e-mu command stations. the internal synthesizer in the command station is truly a powerful synthesizer and practically all waveforms within respond to the pressures of circuit bending. there are complex filters onboard and can virtually create any kind of circuit bent sound so long as you can picture it in your head. want a circuit bent speak and spell looping sound in one of the 32 sequencer tracks available? no problem. bend vocal roms applied with formant filters and will sound like a bent speak and spell. it does a whole lot more and covers alot of sonic territory within the onboad circuit bent synthesizer. the synthesizer sports a huge modulation matrix both in synthesis and circuit bending.

simple drum patterns are reconfigured rhythmically, tonally, and you can shape the circuit bent sounds any way you like with the powerful proteus 2000 synth engine onboard. 128 voices of sequenced mayhem is possible on this device. you can also add your controllers on top of the sequencer to any of the 16 voice parts. in addition to onboard sequencing you can sequence outboard midi gear. this makes it perfect companions with any spunkytoofers instruments with midi since they can integrate seamlessly.

the video below is a circuit bent e-mu mp7 and xl7 demonstration. both units are identically the same except they have different sound sets with the option to expand sound sets with rom simms. they both feature breakouts for spunkytoofers mm1 midi module expansion for modular circuit bending over midi.

1st demo [previously posted] is one pattern being mangled manual with a rotary patchbay

2nd demo [previously posted] is a midi multi-setup on the command station with setups for akai ewi wind controller, akai mpk25 keyboard and sequenced drones being interjected sporadically. all sounds are arbitrarily circuit bent throughout the demo via midi. the command station itself is used over midi to trigger it's own bends."

Roland CMU-800R for Sale

Remember the Roland CMU-800R demoed by James Gallant at this year's Pacific Northwest Synth Meeting? Well, at the meeting James mentioned he purchased one brand new from a school that was going to auction off another one. Well here it is. Note these are extremely hard to find with interface card and software. This one is brand new. If you ever wanted one of these, here is your chance. Note that the proceeds will go to the school, so this is also for a good cause. No title link as there are just these two shots.
Here's a link to the auction.

Details:
"This is the second of two extremely rare units from the same source (described below). There is a very cool blog [Matrixsynth! :)] devoted to synthesizers. You can see videos of the first unit we listed in operation and being demonstrated by the successful bidder at the following link.

Up for auction is an all original (and very very rare) Roland CMU 800R in ABSOUTELY NEW condition. This unit is in original Roland packaging, and has never even been unbagged until now (we opened the shipping bag to take a picture of the back of the unit.) It includes the original box, original manual, Apple interface card, interface cable, power cord, and a copy of the original Apple format 5.25” floppy disc with Apple software. The disk copy was made by the gentleman in the above mentioned video, and is an exact copy of the original software (The disk in the picture is the original disk, not included in this auction.) Several Roland brochures are included as well. The Apple interface card has the original metal foil around it used for ESD protection (we will add a modern ESD bag for the card – but we will leave the metal foil intact.) It appears this is exactly what Roland shipped – Box, manual, cable, interface card, power cord, and the unit itself. The original Styrofoam inserts for the box are missing – we will use bubble wrap to pad the unit.

Special Feature: The winning bidder of the first unit spent a fair amount of time figuring out how to get it to work. He has written a wonderful 1 page document to help guide you through that first power-up. This invaluable “Setup Tips” document is included with this sale! It includes a color photo of how to orient pin 1 on the interface cable – a very valuable piece of information.

The winner of the first auction has suggested I include a couple additional interesting facts about these units:

First, they require an Apple II e with at least one floppy disk drive to operate. These are available on Ebay for reasonable prices.

Second, all the eight channels of control voltage and gate outputs on the back of the 800R can be used to control both vintage and modern analog synthesizers that work on the 1V/octave standard. That's pretty much every analog synth out there except for those by Korg and Yamaha.

A history of these units can be found at: link

Scroll on down a little over half way at the above link, or search for the heading “Milestone: The Roland DG CMU 800R CompuMusic”. This unit is a piece of history. Well, maybe a small one. The Sound on Sound page says it all. These were way way ahead of their time, and almost none remain in operating condition.

This unit was donated to a local school decades ago, and sat untouched for years. Unfortunately the original Roland box has “Sound Mixer” written on it in black felt pen by confused band director. To the best of our knowledge, this unit is exactly what was shipped from Roland. We have no way to test it, so it is sold as is, with our belief that it is exactly as shipped by Roland in its day, a couple decades ago. Check out the matrixsynth link for details on how the first unit ran.

All proceeds from this auction will be donated to the local public school instrumental music program. Bid with the assurance you’re helping a small town music program!"

Again, here's a link to the auction.

Update: Note that this seller has been known to sell the software.

INSANITY 1 【Ambient Psychedelic Synthesizer】
INSANITY 2 【Ambient Psychedelic Synthesizer】
INSANITY 3 【Ambient Psychedelic Synthesizer】

Found these via the following auction for an E-Mu Morpheus.

via this auction

"E-MU Systems Morpheus - Z-Plane filter morphing digital synthesizer with memory card & original box"

"Yes, it sounds like the video (which was recorded directly from a Morpheus) *if* you know how to program it and modulate it the way that artist does. Please be aware that the artist behind "Insanity 2" is a mega genius and also that it would take years even for a mega genius to discover how to program sounds up to that level, though the unit does indeed project that amazing quality.

You'll get:

(A) E-MU Morpheus unit shipped in the original box with foam sides, boxed again within the shipping box.
(B) 512 MB memory card, formatted loaded with presets, hyperpresets, and midimaps (pictured)
(C) power cable (D) a download link to the sysex factory bank, and a few more full sysex banks (E) bonus: two more download links to a synth/keys/orchestral .wav sample library totaling 6GB. (This sample library cannot be used with the Morpheus, but you could use it with a wide variety of samplers and with NI Kontakt.)

Condition: excellent - see pictures. The last picture shows a scratch on the top casing, the worst cosmetic issue with the whole unit."

Roland TR-1000 w/ 808 Skin / Accents on Unit: E - Mbali Mbrace (Jam Version)

video upload by Unit: E

"This is a quick jam of the song I'm working on, Mbali Mbrace. Testing out the fx and recording levels. All percussion in this song was sequenced on the ‪@rolandglobal‬ TR-1000. The vocal samples were imported, chopped, transposed, and layered in with the percussion, all within the 1000. The pads and keys were recorded live from the SH-4D, and in through the Ext In of the 1000. All FX are from within the TR-1000."
