flightofharmony Dealers don’t wanna restock and I don’t wanna find a job yet 20% off everything sale

via flightofharmony where you'll find additional details on the sale.

"As the catchy title implies, I’m broke and need money. This means I need to get a job. I don’t want to just yet because I’d like to at least get the Facehugger control module out to beta testers before I put everything on hold for a bit, which means desperate sale time, yay! Also, it’s Summer, which means that, even though they’re largely sold out of most f(h) modules, it’s the slow time for Synthland, and dealers don’t like to restock until Fall, so this is a great chance to get some unavailable gear for a great price! Now, onwards, to the rules!

What’s covered?
Everything – which means all currently-active product lines, both modules and kits. Which means:

Facehugger – Function Generator, arpeggiator, etc. Preorder item, see note below.
Famine (1500 & 500) – Voltage-controlled power starvation module.
IMP – Noise source.
Desktop Infernal Noise Machine – Road-worthy version of the Infernal Noise Machine, see note below.
Parasite Antifilter – Hellacious distortion, fuzz, drone generator, ambience generator, drum tone source, I mean holy hell this things is fun and surprising.
Plague Bearer – Voltage-controlled Bandpass filter, distortion, the classic.
Sinner – Sine shaper and signal processor.
Sound of Shadows – Voltage controlled, chainable digital delay.
1-6-13 – Protected eurorack power distribution board
5×5 – Passthrough +5V power source, plug into any open spot on your power board and not lose the spot.

This even includes the last of the desktop Infernal Noise Machine Blood Boxes/Minimal Cases and even the Facehugger preorder, but please note the longer lead times involved on those items."

Understanding the Octave CAT // Walkthrough of Cherry Audio's latest release

video upload by Starsky Carr

The Octave Cat feature set expands on the original with enhancements including 16-voice polyphony, sample and hold glide, and interchangeable skins.

A secondary panel view reveals dual eight-step classic-style sequencers and studio-quality effects featuring distortion, phaser, flanger/chorus, delay, and reverb. With support for MPE, over 300 expertly designed presets, and extensive MIDI mapping functions, Octave Cat will satisfy both vintage synth aficionados and professional modern music producers.

Octave Cat is provided in AU, VST, VST3, AAX, and standalone formats, and a free 30-day demo is available at https://cherryaudio.com/

Press Release follows:

"Synclavier Digital releases regenerated Synclavier® II trailblazer as timeless Regen desktop synthesizer bolstered by present-day DSP developments

NOVA SCOTIA, CANADA: soft-launched late last year to widespread critical acclaim at the Synthplex® synthesizer expo and electronic music festival hosted at the Marriott Convention Center in Burbank, CA, USA with pre-orders opening for fulfilment in 2023, timeless synthesis product manufacturer Synclavier Digital is proud to announce wider availability of Regen — released as a desktop synthesizer that is, in short, a real regeneration of New England Digital’s seminal Synclavier® II digital synthesizer that took the pro audio industry by storm when introduced in its initial incarnation in 1980 (evolving beyond that to blaze more technological trails with polyphonic sampling and, ultimately, DAW — Digital Audio Workstation — capabilities well before that term was invented, even), extended and enhanced to take advantage of the increased computing power available today to make it as compelling in a modern setting as the prohibitively pricey original did during its time (finding favour with top-tier film composers, record producers, and recording artists), while the considerable cost and size reductions associated with Regen’s present-day design criteria conversely position it well within reach of (almost) anyone — as of June 29…

"Similar to the infamous ARP Odyssey, so much so that ARP sued Octave for cloning their designs in the mid 70s. The Octave Cat is in great shape overall and just gone over internally by our in-house technician. These are getting harder to find in the wild, especially in good working condition.

Repair notes: Replaced trim pots, replaced all electrolytic capacitors. Replaced almost all IC sockets. Disassembled and cleaned all controls and switches. Rebuilt power supply. Replaced ceramic capacitors in power supply and both VCOs. Repaired key memory S/H circuits. Cleaned pin headers, connectors, buss bars and key contacts. Calibrated and burned in."

Binarhythmic Walkthrough

video upload by boxoftextures

"A new Bud app! Binarhythmic, from Cem Olcay. Binarhythmic, which seemingly has far too many H's in the name because I keep leaving some of them out, is a combination of binary and rhythmic (and I only said combination because I can't spell portmanteau LOL). It's a really interesting sequencer app as instead of beats and measures it counts in binary, with each digit (potentially) being a trigger. This opens up all sorts of possibilities, because instead of "simple" patterns of four or eight notes you're counting in binary, so 1, then 2, then 4, then 8, 16, 32, etc. So you could use three binary digits to have a kick on 1 and a snare on 4, but you can go way beyond that to have some notes be conditional on others or to "gate" notes so they play for a while until a trigger hits and then they stop, to start up again at the next trigger. Endless possibilities. And that's only with three digits. If you use eight digits your sequences can now have 128 beats. And it doesn't stop there because you're transmitting MIDI notes, so you can use them to trigger other events, such as starting/stopping other sequencers, say.

When I first tried out Binarhythmic it seemed very random—flashing lights, things happening at odd times and unpredictably. But once I got the hang of it it all started to make sense. We generally work in even measures, all with the same length for the most part, but in Binarhythmic each measure can be twice as long as the last. The beauty of this is that you can use it to trigger seemingly random events because humans just can't keep track of large numbers like 32 or 64, so if something happens once every 32 or 64 notes it feels like it might be a little out of the blue.

So a couple of video housekeeping notes. Seems I was a little careless with where I ran my headset cable and picked up a bit of hum along the way. It's not terrible, but let this be a lesson to us all. But mostly to me. Also, there's a bit of chord noise as the headset mic too easily picks up the vibrations if one is not paying attention. Again, "one" being me. And lastly, reasonably sure I was able to avoid picking up any playground wailing children noise but just in case I missed any it won't be too much of a surprise. Hopefully.

And finally, the quote intended use unquote for Binarhythmic is rhythm. So of course I did not do that and instead headed out towards some sort of ambient generative territory LOL. But fun was had along the way, and of course that just shows how usable and flexible Binarhythmic can be. Definitely worth a look.

Oberheim Introduces OB-X8 Desktop Analog Synth Module

You might remember Oberheim mentioning they had something new coming to this year's Superbooth.

Here it is. The OB-X8 Desktop Module. Be sure to click the pics for the full size shots.

Press release follows:

Oberheim Announces OB-X8 Desktop Analog Synth Module Fits Perfectly into Your Studio, Your Music, Your Life

San Francisco, CA — Oberheim today announced the much-anticipated desktop version of their highly acclaimed OB-X8 eight-voice analog synthesizer, which faithfully recreates sounds from the classic Oberheim OB-X, OB-Xa and OB-8 synthesizers of the eighties. And now all its presets, synthesis features, and sound editing controls are available in a compact package that fits everyone’s creative space.

“The original OB synths were jam-packed with components and took up a lot of space. There was no way you could contemplate getting even a four-voice version of that sound out of a desktop or rack-mount unit,” mused Tom Oberheim. “Well, here we are in 2023: eight voices of our amazing OB-X8 three-in-one synthesizer now comes in a size that fits your studio.”

The new OB-X8 desktop version does not include the 61-note Fatar keyboard and expression levers found in the original, but don’t let that stop you from experiencing all the sonic power of these monster synths in a footprint that’s compact enough for studios of any size, and convenient enough to take on the road.

Just like the keyboard version, the desktop OB-X8 boasts an identical sound engine, featuring an all-analog signal path with discrete VCOs, VCAs, and filters. And it still manages to provide the same knob-per-function front panel sound designing experience, with immediate access to virtually all the synth’s parameters.

“Bringing back the Oberheim brand has been a joy,” said David Gibbons, CEO. “And since the introduction of the OB-X8 keyboard in May 2022, we’ve heard an overwhelming desire for a desktop module version catering to those whose free studio space doesn’t quite match their enthusiasm for unique synth sounds.”

In the hands of such luminaries as Prince, Van Halen, and Herbie Hancock, Oberheim synths were more than just instruments, they provided the soundtrack of an era. Now a whole new generation of artists are discovering their voices through OB-X8. “When I was shown the new OB-X8, I was immediately impressed with the forensic level of detail that went into its design and the respect for its lineage,” said Trent Reznor, the creative force behind Nine Inch Nails, and an Academy Award-winning composer. “I’m excited more people will be able to experience this classic instrument.”

OB-X8 desktop module weighs approximately 9 lbs. 9 oz. (4.34 kg) and measures 22.00” L x 8.50” W x 4” H (55.88 cm x 21.59 cm x 10.16 cm).

The OB-X8 desktop module is available for pre-order now, with a US MAP price of $3,499. Shipping worldwide in June.

The Sampler will be well packed for postage

You wont get the sound quality of this machine from a software sampler, not remotely close. Granted software is easier to use and more memory but the low end and filters on this are killer.

I used a special RGB to Scart cable bought from ebay to allow use with an external monitor with a scart input. I can not post the link but the sellers are retrocomputershack

It has a unique sound quality that can not be found in modern digital samplers. Their excellent converters coupled with great sounding filters make a really warm and rich sounding instrument.

I love the heavy, three-dimensional sound they produce with those amazing filters."

ARP Solus Monophonic Analog Synthesizer with Built-in Case SN 2353329

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

"1980 Arp Solus monophonic analog synthesizer in excellent condition. All sliders, keys, inputs, outputs, knobs and functions work as intended. The synth was regularly serviced and calibrated. The Arp Solus is light and built into it's own hard shell case, which makes it optimal for touring.

Only 500-600 of these were made. This one is serial# 329 (2353 is the model # followed by the 3-digit serial). This was the last monosynth that Arp produced before shutting down in the early 80s.

I'm going to say something controversial - I think the Solus is both unique from and superior to the Odyssey. It was designed with synth leads in mind - probably to appeal to touring musicians who wanted a lightweight, compact synth to put on top of their big CS80s and PolyMoogs. In my opinion, the quality of sound is where the Solus shines. The design of its filter is the result of years of learning from bugs and mishaps on the Odyssey filter. The Solus includes truly explosive FM, ring modulation, and reverse envelope capabilities in place of the Odyssey's S/H circuit. The Solus' oscillators are also variable waveforms, unlike the Odyssey's square or sawtooth waveforms. The Solus is very loud and present in a mix - perfect for bass lines and leads, whereas the Odyssey sits a bit further back in a mix."

Pittsburgh TAIGA - a chat with the makers - Presentation

video upload by sonicstate

"We got a remote group together with @pittsburghmodular Richard Nicol and Michael Johnsen, @GazWilliams and editor Nick to take a look and have a chat about the new Taiga module.
Its kind of a Pittsburgh Modular greatest hits, with three complex waveshaping and warping oscillators, a 2-pole multimode filter, plus a Low Pass Gate together with the resonance control.
It draws from their range of previous modules including the SV-1, Voltage Research Lab and Capt Big O. There's a couple of envelopes, a mixer section with drive, noise, LFO and digital functions like S+H, plus a lot of patch-ability."
