Voltage Starved Compression Goodness with Hungry Thumb
video upload by Robots Are Red and Hive Mind Synthesis
"Hungry Thumb, by Modular 4 the Masses.
This is an 8-10hp Voltage Starved Compressor module with additional side chain and EQ.
Thank you to Modular 4 the Masses for providing the module for this video."
00:00 - Intro
00:45 - Demo with Kick only
06:58 - Full Drums
09:14 - Plucky Voice
12:00 - Full Mix
HungryThumb is a Eurorack adaptation of a compressor named Engineer's Thumb, typically built as a guitar effect pedal. Juanito built an Engineer's Thumb early in the tin can synth journey, naively replicating the 9V core of the circuit, and then didn't really know what to do with it.
Until they put an 808 kick drum through it. As a kick drum processor, this compressor shines brightly, especially when the Starve settings reduces the core circuitry voltage to 9V and lower. You can get even the purest 808-style kick drum signal, which will be mostly a sine wave, to crunch, clip, gate, fizz and fold. Do you need hardstyle kicks in your modular? This can get you there.
The Engineer's Thumb this circuit is based on uses an LM13700 OTA chip as the adjustable gain portion. These chips are a bit noisy, so an innovation of Engineer's Thumb was to put the gain section in an op amp inverting feedback loop, meaning while the compressor is set to its highest gain, the OTA is set to its lowest gain, and will theoretically be creating less noise. The theory checks out, but I'm not sure how much we Eurorack people care about noise floor.

New Order, BBC2/Radio 1 simulcast ('Rock Around The Clock', August 28, 1984)
video upload by MrMartinPipe
Two Sequential Circuits Prophet-5s and two Octave Electronics Voyetra 8s. Emu Emulator there as well as custom trigger pads.
This one is in via Ivan Trajkovic aka deejayiwan.
Video description:
"Here we have - except for the three songs that YouTube has 'flagged up' for removal - the notoriously bad-tempered 'Saturday Live' set that was the legendary New Order's contribution to the BBC's 'Rock Around The Clock' music-marathon of pop videos, live performances and documentaries.
Some of the day's programming - notably, this New Order performance from the bowels of Broadcasting House - was simulcasted on the BBC's Radio 1/2 network, as there was no stereo TV in the UK back then.
This historic programme (New Order's "live radio debut on the telly", according to BBC presenter Richard Skinner) surfaced on an old V2000 tape that was being chucked out (together with the video recorder it was in). V2000 was an unusual (but at the time, technically-advanced) European home-video format, intended to compete with VHS and Betamax. Developed by Philips and Grundig, the now-forgotten V2000 had some cool features - like 'flip over' recording, and noise-free 'trick' playback. Don't laugh - this was a big deal in the early-mid 1980s!
The recording was alas in a very poor state - machine (which needed to be repaired) and tape alike had evidently not been stored carefully. I have cleaned up the visuals as best I can - and the result is not bad, considering that the source material is over 40 years old! Better still, I had the cassette recording of the stereo FM broadcast I made at the time - which I have managed to synchronise to the video.
I have it on good authority that the result is superior to what the BBC holds in its archives (allegedly a ropey off-air VHS copy, with hissy mono sound).

An Inspiring Eurorack Toolbox for Audio & CV // Workshop Computer from Music Thing
video upload by DivKid
Also see Turing Machine, Workshop System & Planet of the Apes! // Music Thing Modular at Machina Bristronica
"Seeing the Music Thing Workshop System grow and develop over recent years have been a lovely thing and it made me happy to see part of it getting broken out into a Eurorack module and for that part to be the Workshop Computer. It's an 8HP Eurorack module that works as digital toolbox for audio and CV which offers all sorts of handy low level utility things, more exciting audio and CV generation and a range of more lo fi and hi fi audio FX.
Along with the release of the module are 3 new program cards from RYK, offering pitch shifting delay, vocoding, pitch to voltage and tape style recording and looping. You also get some default Music Thing cards and there's blank cards with a huge range of simple drag and drop a file over USB options for a range of community cards you can get for free too. Check out the links below, loads of info in the timing index to skip around. Enjoy!"

NI Absynth 6: Dark Atmospheric Ambient Presets. Sound Demo
video upload by Anton Anru
"🌒 Native Instruments Absynth 6 'Echoes of Dawn' is a collection of 50 dark cinematic presets designed for producers who enjoy atmospheric sound design and moody textures.
The bank blends drifting pads, haunting strings, abstract layers, and deep drones inspired by sci-fi films, cyberpunk aesthetics, and dystopian worlds.
📦 The sounds are available here: https://antonanru.sellfy.store/p/absy...
The soundset includes: 13 Pads, 13 Strings, 13 Textures, and 11 Drones.
👤 The author of the soundset is Ilian.
💎 The presets explore dark tonal spaces and evolving atmospheres, ranging from distant ambient layers to heavier and more unstable textures.
🎛 Each patch includes 8 Macros controlling tone, modulation depth and speed, noise, distortion, detune, space, and effects balance.
The ModWheel controls brightness.
🎬 Suitable for dark ambient, cinematic, experimental electronic music, IDM, and industrial styles, as well as films, games, and trailers where atmosphere and tension are important.
💡 How to install the presets:
Open the menu in the top panel and select Show User Content Folder. Open the Sounds folder and place the presets inside it. Then return to the plugin menu and click Rescan Presets. After that, the presets will appear in the User category (click the person icon in the top right corner)."

Moog Opus 3 — "New Old Stock" Sliders, Switches, Controls, Control Caps & Knobs SN 5828
Note: links to listings are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.
via this eBay listing
"The Moog Opus 3 is a vintage polyphonic synth that combines string, organ and brass sounds in a four-octave keyboard, along with flexible controls for shaping each sound.

One of the coolest things about the Opus 3 is that it has a classic Moog four-pole filter that the brass and organ can be run through. The filter has the sound Moogs are famous four, and it can be run into self-oscillation.
The synth also features a three-phase chorus effect that uses the famed Reticon bucket brigade chips, as well as stereo and mono outputs.
Here are details about the unit for sale:
The old, deteriorating foam that sat below the control panel has been removed from this one, so you don’t have to worry about it.
All of the sliders, switches and rotary controls — except for the master volume — were changed out for New Old Stock replacements. All the slider caps and control knobs are New Old Stock as well. Everything works smoothly, with no noise or issues.
The master volume has very minor crackle at the top end of its range while it’s being moved. It is otherwise noise-free during normal operation. I would have had it changed out but it wasn’t possible to source an original replacement.
One of the three original Reticon chips in the chorus effect was replaced when an original failed. All three are working, and the chorus sounds great.
The original red LED in the Modulation section was swapped out for a new bright blue LED.
I wasn’t able to test the sustain jack on the unit’s front panel. Moog chose an unusual size jack here— it’s slightly smaller than a 1/4-inch input. It would be easy to swap it out with a proper 1/4-inch jack if you choose to do so.
The physical condition is very good. Note the scratches to the wood and some minor marks on the faceplate.
All of the notes sound as they should, and all controls and functions work as they should.
HELPFUL NOTES
Although its functions are basic, you’ll need to understand the signal routing in the Opus 3. These are spelled out in the owner's manual (which is available online), but knowing the following will help you get your head around it.
For example, the chorus effect operates on the strings and organ, not on the brass. This is by design and is noted by an arrow on the control panel.
The Moog four-pole VCF can be used on the organ and brass, not the strings. Again, this is by design and is noted by an arrow on the control panel.
Frequency Modulation works on all sounds, but VCF modulation only works on the organ and brass because these are the two sounds that can be run through the VCF (see the point immediately above). Again, this is by design.
The length of chorus delay is set by using the delay fader in the Modulation section. This too is by design.
Two other noteworthy points:
• The pitch wheel has a firm detent (the point at which it sits at pitch). Other owners have noted the same thing about their units in online forums. It’s not difficult to work, but it’s firmer than on other synths I’ve owned.
• All of the electronics, aside from those mentioned above, are original and working fine. Electrical components can fail or become damaged with time and/or misuse. Always be sure you are connected to proper voltage, and note that ground loops can introduce hum."

Xfer Serum 2 50 Presets: Dark Textures & Drones. Sound Demo
video upload by Anton Anru
🌌 "Fractured Atmospheres" is a collection of 50 atmospheric and experimental presets for Xfer Serum 2, made for producers who want emotional, evolving, and dark sounds with character.
The soundset moves between soft and pleasant atmospheres and noisy, unstable, and abstract tones, making it suitable for both musical ideas and sound design.
💾 The bank of presets includes: 12 Pads, 12 Strings, 14 Textures, and 12 Drones.
📦 Get these presets: https://antonanru.sellfy.store/p/seru...
👤 The author of the soundset is Ilian.
❗️Compatible only with Serum 2. Not compatible with Serum 1.
💎 The soundset is built around contrast and imperfection, drawing inspiration from natural phenomena, mental states, and inner anomalies.
Pads and strings blend smooth, emotional, and airy tones with subtle noise, creating fragile, lo-fi, and cinematic atmospheres, while textures and drones move into darker, noisier, and more atonal territory.
Shaped by slow or fast, evolving modulation, the presets feel expressive and alive, working as musical layers, background ambiences, or standalone soundscapes.

FOUR SEAS // A Multi-Voice Mega Wavetable Oscillator Powerhouse from Ferry Island Modular
video upload by DivKid
"Here we have Ferry Island Modular's first release 'Four Seas', which is designed, engineered and manufactured in Finland. It's a real power house of a sound source, suiting to quickly grabbing some waves to patch with or for deep sound design tweaking. Everything is knob/button per function with no menus, making complex behaviours, modulations and sounds simple to access. There's LOTS of examples in this video, see the timing index below for all that's covered ... yet I'm sure there's lots left to uncover with all the options this presents."

via JULIEN*S

"THE FLORIAN SCHNEIDER COLLECTION
Auction to be held at Musician's Hall of Fame & Museum, Nashville, on November 19
An incredible collection of more than 450 artifacts from the life and career of Florian Schneider, co-founder of the pioneer electronic band Kraftwerk."
Pics and videos featuring some of the gear below, and his Lederhosen for good measure (thanks greg!).
Update: the post has been fully updated with all the synth related gear. This may just well be the longest post to be featured on the site. I wanted to capture all the pics for all of the details including notes, scuffs, and of course serial numbers. It's an interesting look into what he used, the condition he keped his gear, in some cases, how he actually used his gear. Note the phonetics on the keys of the Casio CZ-101 and DX-100. Note the Midi Switch Box with a built-in speaker? What's that about? Note the camouflage key strap on the Korg RK-100 Remote Keyboard. Did he pick it out himself or did the keytar just come with it? Note the repeat midi controllers and the MIDI saxaphones. Wind was his primary instrument. You'll find a ton of the acoustic gear he used in the other listings. This is a fascinating insight into both what and how he used his gear.

Rack Mount Sennheiser VSM-201 Vocoder
Starting Bid $5,000
Estimate $20,000 - $40,000 USD
A late 1970s Sennheiser VSM 201 Vocoder with no serial number from the personal studio and collection of Florian Schneider of Kraftwerk (see images). While it’s said that only a few dozen of these Vocoders were produced, a few examples made it into the hands of forward-thinking musical artists including Herbie Hancock, Daft Punk, and of course, Kraftwerk, who used a VSM-201 like this on their albums Man Machine (1978) and Computerworld (1981). The VSM-201 has an intelligible sound that has not yet been bested by modern gear. Includes power cable. This VSM-201 has been removed from its wooden enclosure (which bears the serial number plate) and modified with a metal rack mount casing, presumably for live use. Requires 240v, IEC power cable not included.
Dimensions: 19 x 9 x 9 inches
Category: Kraftwerk, Equipment
Provenance: PROVENANCE From the Estate of Florian Schneider
