Aggression Therapy | Looking for mean and vicious sounds in Eurorack
video upload by Cinematic Laboratory
"The word 'aggression' is used in this video to express a certain quality of sound and music. It's not indended and should not be associated with any form of violence. In music, it can emphasize the emotion or reveal what's happening in an actor's mind. It's an element of storytelling. Use it wisely.
For some reason, people love aggressive sounds and we wouldn't be having heavy metal, noise muisic and industrial grunge without it. Some brands, not calling names, specialize in it. So I've been thinking. Does an 'aggressive' VCO exist? Modules like Three-Body, Plasma Voice, Loquelic Iteritas Percido and WaveRazor came to mind, but the level of rudeness completely depends on who's patching it. Not calling any names again. I think 'aggression' - it's a bad word, I know - is a recipe where you'd drive your gear into distortion, self oscillation and cross modulation. However, it's often about grit, dirt, filth and grunge. You don't need violence to enjoy it, it's just 'colors' and many of these colors are all over mother nature.
The ultimate showcase would be Noise Music, but I think that noise doesn't tell a story and emotions need to develop. So it needs some kind of storytelling. In this video, I'll explore some VCO's and combos that will balance the edge of noise, and then try to manage it. Even the most brutal noise becomes percussion when you sculpt it, and even the most civilized module can reap havoc and bring chaos."

Elektron Model:Samples patched thru Boredbrain Transmutron & Eurorack
Published on Feb 28, 2019 Boredbrain Music
"We snagged the new Elektron Model:Samples and decided to beef it up using the Boredbrain Transmutron's FX loops patched out through a slew of eurorack processing. A simple pattern was programmed and, alongside many CV modulations, some real-time tweaking created a fun dynamic jam.
Cool things happening in this patch:
- The Transmutron's two Euro FX returns are used to receive mixed stereo cacophony of parallel effects (and synth line) to convert back to line-level for recording, after first passing through the Boss Roland RE-20 Space Echo.
- A Boredbrain SPLIX is used to mix two different control voltage signals into the Transmutron CV for modulation of the crossover frequency splitpoint
- The low frequencies are processed in parallel with the Recovery Effects Motormatic and the 2HP Comb Filter, the latter has its resonance modulated by one channel of the Make Noise Maths, triggered every 7 gates of the synth line, counted by the Adventure Audio Count module.
- Model:Samples Track 6 is sequencing the Mother-32 to create the synth line, which is octave doubled by the Noise Reap Bermuda oscillator, then run through the Recovery Effects Cutting Room Floor"

Moog DFAM Experimental w/Eurorack
Published on Jun 20, 2018 Nostalgic Ruckus
"Using 3 LFOs and 3 VCAs to bring in and out the VCOs creating a subtle dark soundscape while using the Beast-Tek Dirty Glitch to add to it. The Delptronics Trigger Man is sequencing the drums while the DFAM is clocking and caring the backbone of the patch. The VCOs used are X1l3’s (Shane Williams) clone of the Mutable Instruments Braids and Noise Reap’s Bermuda. Drums are Tiptop Audio’s 808 Snare and Hats modules."

"OFFWORLD DREAMING" Eurorack, Noise Reap Bermuda, MI Rings, Erica Synths Wavetable
Published on Oct 13, 2017 Lost For Words
"My Eurorack is growing - this week I received my Ornament & Crime and Noise Reap's Bermuda VCO. The Bermuda sounds incredible for an inexpensive module. I racked up both new modules to have a play and ended up with this patch. Whether the fact that I saw Blade Runner 2049 on Sunday had anything to do with the feel of this piece I can't say but I'm a big Vangelis fan. I hope you like this dreamy few minutes :)
Patch notes - recorded direct from the case, no external processing.
Yarns - providing arpeggiated clock only, no pitch, to the O&C in CopierMaschine app (F scale pentatonic major) going out to Bermuda VCO and Erica Synths Wavetable.
Bermuda (triangle wave) into DPLPG (first!) then filtered by Ripples which is being modulated by Peaks LFO. Envelope for DPLPG is other by other side of Peaks. A slight FM wobble from Maths. Into Pico DSP for mono delay.
Erica Synths Wavetable filtered by Polivoks with some modulation from Maths.
Maths is plucking Rings on the left hand End of Rise and slowly sweeping the Frequency, Position and Structure to create that lovely bell undulation.
2hp Verb reverb on everything!"

Noise Reap Bermuda Eurorack VCO Demo
Published on Dec 23, 2016 FatSynthDude
"I made this one with the focus being on the pair of Noise Reap Bermuda's I received today. These are fairly simple triangle-core oscillators with triangle, sine, and pulse wave outputs. What makes them different from other VCO's is that there's a control onboard to route the triangle wave back into the core. It's a simple trick that a lot of oscillators can do already with some self-patching, but it's neat that it's a built-in modulation here with a built-in attenuator. For those that have never tried feeding an oscillator back into itself, this results in distortions in the waveform. It's a trick that a lot of people forget exists, so it's handy to have a dedicated knob for it. The other special feature is the price. These are only $65 each. In my brief experience with them so far, they're fairly stable and track CV very well. I haven't done a side-by-side comparison to my other oscillators yet, but it will be interesting to see how they compete against the more expensive ones. Regardless of how well they compare, I'd say they're worth the phenomenally low price.
So for this composition, the Bermudas handle the bass synth and the lead synth. The Bassier one is ran through the 4075 and the lead goes through the Polivoks filter.

"DC coupled Inputs 1-4 are summed and sent to the mix out. If a cable is plugged into outs 1-3, that respective channel will be pulled from the mix and become buffered attenuator.
There are three differential amplifiers outputs at the bottom of the module. A simple formula for the differential outputs is this: [diff output] = [ input 1 voltage ] + [ - input 2 voltage ]. Notice that the inputs are added together but the second input is also inverted. As an example, a 5 volt gate at both inputs 1 & 2 will equal 0 volts out of the diff output. Diff 3-4 works the same way, with input 4 being the inverted input. The diff outputs can also be used as simple inverters for channels 2 & 4.
The "diff-diff" is a differential amplifier for the two diff outputs (diff 1-2 is the inverted input to the diff-diff).

Noise Reap FLUX (random source) Eurorack Module
Note: links to listings are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

"Flux is a glitchy/jerky low frequency* random CV source created with extreme low pass filtered analog white noise.
Two bipolar LEDs give some insight into what the module is doing at any given time. The bottom LED will turn blue when the CV is positive and red when negative. The top LED will match that color code but only comes on when the CV amplitude is 2 volts or greater.
The offset control is very sensitive and will give the random CV a positive or negative bias. It is possible to over offset the CV and have a tweaky +/- DC source.
There is a 1-3 minute "warm up" period before the circuit stabilizes and reaches equilibrium. Until then the random output will have a negative bias and white noise will not be heard and/or centered around ground.
*true random stuff doesn't actually have a frequency because it doesn't repeat
Specifications:
Eurorack 4hp
10mA @ +12V
10mA @ -12V
skiff friendly :)
Outputs:
Raw - amplified white noise output - usually normalized around +/-8 volts (may have a slight positive DC bias, not usually an issue at all for audio sorces, especially noise)
Ran (RANDOM) - subaudio control voltage out +/- 8ish

Details:
"9 step voltage sequencer with hold and reset functions. Patch-able gate outputs. Loops at 9 steps if no information is given to the RST or HLD inputs.
specifications:
eurorack 22hp
skiff friendly
reverse voltage protected
In/Outs:
CLK - clock input (for square wave LFO, dedicated clock module, etc)

RST - a positive voltage here will return the sequencer to step one ( clock will not start counting again until RST voltage is low again)
CV out - voltage output corresponding to knob position (+/- 2 volts, noon is 0 volts)
HLD@ - same as HLD (note: if a cable is patched form 5 to HLD@, the sequence will be 5 steps long and stop at step 5)
RST@ - same as RST (note: if a cable is patched from 5 to RST@, the sequence will be 4 steps long and loop)
outputs 2-9 - any given ouput will be high (+5 volts) for as long as the corresponding step is active."
