Live Ambient :: Soma Cosmos :: Oberheim OB-X8 :: Roland JX-8P :: Linnstrument

video upload by Harry van Mierloo

"Layered ambient recording of the Oberheim OB-X8 playing together with the Roland JX-8P, through the wonderful Soma Cosmos.

The JX-8P is playing one of my favourite homemade pad-patches, and the OB-X8 is live played on the Linnstrument and tweaked in order to feed various sounds on the fly into the Cosmos. The filter of the Oberheim is controlled with my foot using an expression pedal. The result is a highly layered ambient track full of unpredictable – and sometimes hard to keep within control – harmonics.

Pepper & Salt from Strymon BigSky, enjoy!"

J3PO's "Funk & Fusion Classics" Prophet Rev 2 Library -- Official Sounds Demo

video upload by Julian "J3PO" Pollack

"πŸ”₯ In this video, you can listen to all 28 patches πŸŽ›️ included in the new J3PO 'Funk and Fusion Classics' patch library for the Prophet Rev2 🎹

I designed these patches for playing several shows with Herbie Hancock at the Hollywood Bowl. Sharing the stage with Herbie and the original Head Hunters was one of the most surreal and meaningful experiences of my life, a true full-circle moment as a lifelong fan.

These sounds were designed for tributes to Wayne Shorter and Weather Report, Herbie, Joe Zawinul, Stevie Wonder, Chick Corea, and more. From 'Chameleon' to 'Black Market,' these are stage-tested patches built for funk and fusion. This is the third volume in my 3-part Rev2 series, completing User Bank 4 (001–128) across all three packs. If you already have Vols. 1 and 2, this finishes the set. And if you’re new, you can now grab the full bundle. Check the link below for more info.

About the artist: Julian “J3PO” Pollack is a Los Angeles-based keyboardist, producer, and sound designer, renowned for his virtuosic yet soulful blend of jazz, fusion, hip-hop, and electronic music. He has toured and/or recorded with legends including Marcus Miller, Terence Blanchard, Chris Botti, Herbie Hancock, Santana, Talib Kweli, and many others. He has released several acclaimed solo albums, most recently SOUL & CIRCUITRY (Ropeadope, 2025). Oberheim OB-X8 - SM Lush Analog Keys

video upload by Scott McAuley Sounds

"Patches will be available at https://www.orano.co.uk/shop or http://www.synthsounds.co.uk
**Reverb Used is Specular Tempus**

This Patch named "SM Lush Analog Keys" will be included in Explorations Volume 2, this one really shows how rich and full the OB-X8 can sound. Sometimes Less is more, and this patch keeps things simple but just lovely and not achievable on every synth with such depth. This is exactly why I love this synth so much!"

Oberheim Biog
Oberheim is the 21st century return of the legendary company that helped fuel the original electronic music revolution in the 1970s. Now, just as then, Oberheim is guided by the vision of engineer and inventor, Tom Oberheim. Tom’s genius for innovation introduced the world to the first commercially available poly synth and other groundbreaking electronic instruments that literally changed the sound of music.

Today, Oberheim reawakens this extraordinary legacy by bringing the famed Oberheim sound to a new generation of instruments and artists. The company’s passion remains unchanged by time or technology — to once again provide the world with the finest-sounding analog synthesizers ever made.

Louis Cole - “Bank Account” Synth Cover (Oberheim OB-X8)

video upload by Emilio Rivera

"Hey everyone! It’s been a while. I can hardly believe it’s been over 3 years since my last video and I want to apologize for my lack of activity. To be honest, I’ve had a love-hate relationship with music for a long time and I thought I had quit for good, but thankfully my friends didn’t let that happen. Praise God! So here I am with a short video of a silly little Louis Cole song that I decided to learn. This one is harder than it looks but it was really fun and satisfying to play once I got the hang of it. I hope you enjoy it!

I also want to say thank you to everyone for continuing to support my preset packs and watching my videos. It really means a lot to me. Lord willing, I’ll be back again soon with another video! Until next time :)

-Emilio"

Turning the SUMMIT or PEAK into an Oberheim

video upload by Starsky Carr

"Its remarkably easy to do the Oberheim thing on a Novation SUMMIT or PEAK I attempted to recreate a few of my favourite OB-X8 patches and the SUMMIT sounded amazingly close.

So I've looked a bit deeper and come up with some simple rules to stick within the limitations of the Vintage Oberheim to get those classic tones.

.. and it works a treat :)

"Lived and Not Yet Lived" synth jam w/Perkons, Moog Labyrinth, OB-X8

video upload by Tim Grogan

"I like attributing significance to everyday things and then setting a mood to it sort of like scoring a film. Today's subject was my ceiling fan.

A synth jam I envisioned laying in bed this morning while drifting mentally through various scenes. Wanted to follow the visuals. Here's the result"

Novation Summit + Peak // Recreating Classic Vintage Patches

video upload by Starsky Carr

"Classics Vintage Patches from The Novation SUMMIT and PEAK Just a bit of fun... not meant to be identical, but I attempted to recreate some of my favourite patches on my Juno 60, Minimoog, Prophet 5, DW-8000 and OB-X8 - and it was going so well I ended up creating a soundbank.

These were selected to give a nice wide range of tones - single, dual and triple, VCO, DCO and digital oscillators

It can't do everything, obviously, but it gets really close on loads of tones - I was not expecting them to be identical but it can get close to the characters.

For this I created a few wavetables for the Summit/Peak from the DW-8000 waves and also the stacked waves from the Prophet 5. You can select multiple waves on the Prophet, but you can't on the Novation's so it was simple enough to create a wavetable to give all options.. saw+sq, saw+sq+triangles etc.

"Through Hills From Sky" synth jam w 0-Coast, Starlab, Arbhar, OB-X8, DFAM, Hydrasynth, Keystep Pro

video upload by Tim Grogan

"Live recorded DAWless synth jam into Pro Tools for mixing purposes only. I wanted to do some music that felt uplifting at a time that I know is emotionally draining and challenging right now, especially for those of us in the U.S. who don't belong to the political cult that's currently in existence.
'Through Hills From Sky' is really meant as a way of saying we'll get through this if we keep our heads up and stay positive, focused on a bigger picture."

Oberheim OB Xa - the monster for deep, fat, dark analog tones

video upload by Sergio Man

"The Oberheim OB-Xa is an absolute monster for deep, fat, dark analog tones—perfect for haunting drones, growling basslines, and eerie pads. Here’s why it stands out:
Why the OB-Xa is Perfect for Dark, Fat Sounds:

πŸ”₯ Oscillators – Two massive CEM3340 oscillators per voice, capable of thick detuning, deep PWM, and sinister saw waves.
πŸ”₯ Filters – The Curtis low-pass filter (12dB or 24dB) gives it a dark, creamy, and moody resonance. When pushed, it can create growling basses and sinister sweeps.
πŸ”₯ Unison Mode – Stacking all voices together creates earth-shaking, monstrous basses.
πŸ”₯ LFO Modulation – Slow, deep LFO modulation can bring ominous movement to pads and leads.
πŸ”₯ Vintage Drift – Since it's full analog, slight imperfections give it that organic, alive feeling—like a demon breathing in your mix.
Dark Sound Design Ideas:

πŸ”Š Evil Bass – Low-pass filter, resonance at 40%, slight detune, Unison mode.
🌫️ Cinematic Drone – Slow LFO to filter, subtle PWM, a bit of white noise.
πŸ”” Haunting Bell Pads – High resonance, slow attack, some reverb and delay.
⚡ Aggressive Leads – 24dB filter, medium resonance, quick envelope decay for punch.
Similar Dark & Fat Synths

OB-X8 (2022) – Modern reissue, true to the original OB series.
Sequential Prophet-5/6 – More aggressive and raw, but in a similar analog spirit.
Moog One – Thicker and darker but with a more modern feel."
