video uploads by sonicstate
Playlist:
1. Bristronica 24: MyVolts The Silent Alchemist Nears Shipping
We caught up with Caroline who gave us the latest update to the *Silent Alchemist*, a versatile power hub designed for musicians. Featuring five isolated USB-C outputs and a high-wattage sixth output capable of delivering 100 watts, the device can power a Mac with the remaining outputs providing 20 watts each. Its independent circuits ensure noise-free operation, catering to a variety of devices including the Dreadbox module and Sysmo slope generator.2. Bristronica 24: Circuit Happy ML2M Clock Sync module updates
The Silent Alchemist uses innovative step-up power tips to convert USB-C input to the correct voltage for various devices. There's also new feature: an uninterruptible power supply allowing seamless transition between wall and power bank sources. Also introduced were updated cables, such as silver candy cords and floating ring TRS to TS cables, expanding connection flexibility. The Silent Alchemist is expected to be available in December with a competitive pricing strategy.

At Bristronica 2024, we caught up with the creator of the *ML2M*, who introduced us to the latest version. The ML2M is a compact Eurorack module with Wi-Fi capabilities, allowing seamless synchronization with Ableton Live, Bitwig Studio, and iOS music apps using Ableton Link without the need for cables. It either connects to an existing network or creates its own, ensuring robust sync even in environments with unreliable Wi-Fi. The module, which retains its 2HP size, now features MIDI integration through TRS jacks. Users can access a web interface to configure each output for different clock divisions and reset triggers, making setup straightforward and flexible.3. Bristronica 24: Archaea Exchange Patching Module
Alongside the ML2M, there's also the Missing Link Junior. This desktop version offers the same functionality but in a box format, complete with MIDI and CV clock outputs. Both products are now accessible, with a starting price of $250.
At Machina Bristronica 2024, we caught up with Arran from @archaea_modular_synthesis who presented the *Exchange Module*. This programmable patcher, a year in the making, evolved from its early prototype stage to a fully functional module. Arran explained how the Exchange can route synth voices via a beam controller and three exchange modules installed within the skiff, allowing for versatile patching. Operating like a matrix patchbay, it enables users to select inputs and outputs with the push of a button, create presets, and chain multiple modules for synchronized patching.
Communication between the modules occurs over the Eurorack power bus as well as over MIDI via the USB-C connection. The Exchange maintains analog integrity, ensuring there’s no conversion latency. The forthcoming release expected in late November 2024, includes a USB-driven editor for enhanced control capabilities.

Talking Filters | Schlappy Patching with Stazma
video upload by SCHLAPPI ENGINEERING
"Episode 6 for Schlappy Patching!
Do you know how to make filters talk? It’s fun and one of my favorite patches to do with modular synthesizer, because of the amount of control you can have on the talking.
In this new episode of Schlappy Patching I’ll give it a go with the 100 Grit and Angle Grinder, the two filters of the Schlappi Engineering echo system.
Do you have a favorite talking filter?
Have fun watching!"

Eric Schlappi and Bastien Lavaud - Orbital Mirrors
video upload by SCHLAPPI ENGINEERING
"Part of an improvisational audiovisual jam session between Eric Schlappi and Bastien Lavaud on August 26th in Grenoble, France, lightly edited afterwards.
Audio is Eric Schlappi using a prototype of the Nibbler as a crude sequencer and another Nibbler at audio rate dividing down the lead synths frequency to create the bassline. The lead is a Three Body and the Kick is formed with the Angle Grinder and Boundary modules. There are also some overdubbed blasts of noise using a Nibbler at audio rate with the shift register functionality.
Video is Bastien Lavaud using a mix of @syntonie1487 (including the upcoming Solaire and Seuils modules) and @lzxindustries video modules as well as some video feedback through a camera.
Please watch in the highest available quality as compression is quite harsh on the video synthesis methods used.

Schlappi Engineering ANGLE GRINDER / ingenious vco, lfo, filter & distortion / extensive playthrough
video upload by BRiES
"In this video about Schlappi Engineering's ANGLE GRINDER I demonstrate the different aspects of the module seperately, before throwing it all together in a gritty mayhem of waveshaping and feedback.
ANGLE GRINDER is a versatile piece of gear that can be used to create, shape and mangle audio as well as CV signals. The filter sounds really nice and clean if you back off all the feedback and modulation, but once you start adding the GRIND section to the mix it can produce rich CV controllable distortion. If you use ANGLE GRINDER as a VCO or LFO the linear and exponential FM inputs provide plenty of modulation options. The quadrature LFO outputs can bring life to patches and by adding feedback you can change the shape of the generated sine waves drastically. You can even use ANGLE GRINDER as a make-shift sequencer."

ANGLORYTHMIC BREATHING / just when you think you understand Angle Grinder by Schlappi Engineering
video upload by BRiES
"The behaviour of the comparators is starting to make sense... but it all falls to pieces from the moment you introduce feedback (which is very easy due to the normalized connections).
I'm getting closer to being able to do a full video about this module."

Korg opsix- Dream vs Nightmare, external modular processing for a simple organ-like patch
video upload by Friendly Noise
"Modules: Xaoc Tallin, Schlappi Engineering 100 Grit and Angle Grinder, SSF Vortices, Intellijel Quadrax.
No eurorack: Strymon Nightsky
Preset used: 014 Ambi Sines. Internal filter and effects are off. The monophonic output goes into Xaoc Tallin for level raising and then the signal goes to 100 Grit for filtering and distortion. The output from 100 Grit goes into the Angle Grinder, where it gets splitted using the dedicated output for low pass and high pass filtering. The splitted signals go to two mono channels of Vortices. The panning of those two channels is modulated with channels 1 and 2 of Quadrax in LFO mode (but not from the beginning of the video). The idea is similar to what a Leslie does, but not trying to emulate the sound. Channels 3 and 4 of Quadrax are also in LFO mode and modulate the filter frequency of 100 Grit and Angle Grinder. Finally, Nightsky adds some ambient reverb. No sequencing or arpeggio were used, but sometimes the intermodulation of oscillator frequencies and harmonics would let you think there is some sequencing."

Podcast 307: Eric Schlappi
Published on Dec 22, 2019 20Objects
"There are a few modules that have been quietly creeping into discussions - and modular rigs - over the last few months. One manufacturer that keeps coming up is Schlappi Engineering - and especially the Angle Grinder module. I'm not sure how you make a quadrature oscillator sexy - but Eric Schlappi seems to have done it!
In this chat, we go over Eric's background, how he came up with some of his modules, some of the technologies that he's exploring for the future, and his own music-making (and performing) process. His modules are opinionated (in that they have design decisions that can drive you in certain directions), but in a way that can still allow you to maintain your own voice. He also talks about his own obsession with analog monosynths, and how this has influenced his own electronics development.
In addition to his modules, you can check out some of his recorded work on his Bandcamp site (https://ericschlappi.bandcamp.com/). Also, for Tier 2 (and above) Patreon supporters (https://www.patreon.com/darwingrosse), we have an extended interview about the performative aspects of the 100 Grit that is particularly interesting.
Enjoy!"

Schlappi Engineering Angle Grinder & Interstellar Radio
Published on Dec 12, 2018 Perfect Circuit
"Schlappi Engineering has two gritty and noisy eurorack modules. The Angle Grinder (https://www.perfectcircuit.com/schlap...) is a quadrature oscillator and filter with built in complex feedback paths for squaring up and distorting the signal. The Interstellar Radio (https://www.perfectcircuit.com/schlap...) modulates and then demodulates a signal with the options of adding lots of odd aliases from the transmission. This patch is sequenced with Noise Engineering modules, the Integra Solum, Mimetic Digitalis and Zularic Repetitior. The Sinc Iter is used as the sound input for the Interstellar Radio to create a noisy snare sound. The Mutable Instruments Stages is used as five envelopes to modulate the bass sound of the Angle Grinder. Intellijel’s Quad VCA is used as VCAs and Mixers and the WMD/SSF DPLR adds a delay effect to the snare sound.
