K-DEVICES Releases Secta, a New VST3/AU Audio Plugin

video upload by kdevices

"Secta is an audio effect that dynamically splits incoming audio in two sections and processes each with an exclusive kit of effects, sculpting silence, shaping accents and amplifying hidden details, guiding each layer into a parallel sonic dimension."

Secta / 10 minutes tape loop disintegration

Press release follows:

K-Devices releases Secta as VST3 and AU
parallel (sound) worlds

Arvieux, France - September 28 2023. K-Devices, developer of creative music tools, has released Secta, a new audio effect, as VST3 and Audio Unit plugin for MacOS and Windows.

Building on the concept of a multidimensional gate, Secta processes the audio in a unique way, adding an ephemeral and dramatic touch to acoustic instruments, warmly disintegrating loops, injecting abrupt drops and retexturizing your lines, or throwing down any beat into a dark path of fragmentation.

At first, Secta splits the incoming signal acting as a gate effect: the user sets an amplitude threshold using the Verge and Boost parameters. The signal’s amplitude portion greater than the threshold value generates an envelope which controls the Above and Below sections. The envelope itself controls the frequency of a lowpass filter in the Above section (resulting similar to a lowpass gate), while its inverse value controls the amplitude of the Below section. Such envelope can be shaped using several global parameters: Smooth, Retain, and Sidechain.
Above and Below sections process sounds using a different set of effects each: the more rumbling Above, the more textural and looney Below.
Using one section at a time holds interesting sculpting results, while combining and balancing them is great for creating richer textures.

Hard-to-describe with classic effect categories, Secta processes both sides of a gated source independently, acting as a counterpoint amplitude sculptor. Secta cuts to (re)generate. Secta is a colorizer, no mix parameters are available: just load Secta onto your track and let it inspire you with its timbrical shades. A gate, a dynamic multi-distortion, a double heads tectonic monster, a trembling detuned textures generator, and more... so many uses of Secta have yet to be discovered!

Studio Electronics Family Herrre

video by StudioElectronics

"Once upon a drum machine, The Brothers St. Regis had to part with their beloved, stock TR-808; before it left the building, Greg St. Regis programmed this beat: "HE is The Rhythm Man, tapping at he backseat..." Several summers passed and it again found favor in their sight, after hundreds of cuts & creases and "Boomstar Brotherhood" #SE80 percussion pieces. Soon Rhodes chords followed the Rhythm-Man's-flow. It is commonly believed bass was next (30+ tracks): driving, testifying, border-defying Midimini V30, in the lead role, with wildly versatile and colorful programmable support from the SE-02. 10 or so passes of Omega 8—essentially MIDI Channel 1/1980’s style—broadened and brightened the Gospel of Chordal Excellence. The Oracle at Ableton/Atlanta spoke a Wayne Shorter spirit into the leads, so the SE-02 and Midimini began stacking up the solo flights, fighting and reuniting like play-cousin nights. Voices from the “Family Herrre” Chorus preached and ascended majestically—though soothingly prosaic at times—inspiring, shaping, begging, cajoling, demanding, elevating and refining the piece to unforeseen coherence and towering heights… feigning silence for moments, only to reanimate through & beyond fragmentation challenges with that magical dialect and love from #thelou

"Consider all that."

FINIS

Captain’s Log Supplemental 1182021:

Most if not all of the polyphonic detail work (apart from the Waves Morphoder vocoding), not tracing or amplifying the piano track MIDI, rather often clustering around spoken and sung WORD, like a gritty reverent glitter (WORD, arguably entirely too sacrosanct to digitally preserve… to orchestrate, yet now its dope message moves forward and out), was tracked note by Motu's brilliant “Split Notes” feature in #DP10 - Midimini V30 and SE-02 battling again for the muse’s attention/affection.

MOOGFEST ANNOUNCES PROTEST STAGE PARTICIPANTS FOR FESTIVAL’S OPENING NIGHT

via moogfest

"Featuring Talib Kweli, Omar Souleyman, Mykki Blanco, BEARCAT, Pie Face Girls, MIT Open Doc Lab, NEW INC, Found Sound Nation, and Goldsmiths

The independent, annual, four-day festival will take place in
Durham, North Carolina from May 18-21, 2017.
This year marks its 11th iteration honoring the spirit of inventor Bob Moog.

$249 for 3-Day General Admission and $499 for 3-Day VIP

All prices exclusive of applicable fees.

March 21, 2017 - Moogfest will dedicate its main stage on opening night to exploring how creative technology tools and protest music can be used as instruments for change. This Protest stage will be led by local and international artists Talib Kweli, Omar Souleyman, Mykki Blanco, BEARCAT and Pie Face Girls, MIT Open Doc Lab, NEW INC, and app developers at Goldsmiths University. The diverse Protest stage program will include performances, talks, and participatory technology experiments. Moogfest invites all presenters and attendees to explore sonic resistance and emerging technology tools for counteraction while celebrating radical inclusivity and intersectionality. New technologies for educating, organizing, and art-making echo Moogfest’s rallying cry: Synthesize Love.

Protest comes in many forms, and no single genre can contain the musicians participating in Thursday’s program. Talib Kweli is a renowned recording artist, entrepreneur, and social activist who uses hip hop to educate, inspire and agitate. He is well known for his work combating racial stereotypes, the prison-industrial complex, and police brutality. Syrian artist-activist Omar Souleyman represents culturally diverse musical traditions that include Kurdish, Ashuris, Arabic, Turkish and Iraqi communities. Fearless noise rap poet and performance artist Mykki Blanco was raised in Raleigh, N.C., but has traveled the globe from art-world stomping grounds in New York to his current home in Los Angeles, spitting subversive rhymes on race and LGBT issues. British DJ/Producer BEARCAT makes politically-charged bass-heavy mixes and represents Discwoman, an esteemed collective showcasing cis women, trans women and genderqueer talent in electronic music. Raleigh-based band Pie Face Girls uses defiant punk music to promote a DIY ethos and attack issues like North Carolina’s HB2. Music is one of the oldest forms of protest, but each of these artists makes their causes urgent anew with the music and community they build.

Intermixed with the musical performances, technologists participating in the Moogfest Protest stage program will present recent and developing projects that empower and facilitate social action. Gan Golan and Ron Morrison of NEW INC present their countersurveillance armor for citizens, The Argus Project, a head-to-toe mobile suit embedded with cameras that allows the wearer and its audience of remote viewers to monitor and record environmental behaviour. Taeyoon Choi, also of NEW INC, presents a protest sign-making workshop, exploring signs as a poetic medium for social engagement in an inclusive space that promotes learning from people with differing views and priorities. Halsey Burgund of MIT Open Doc Lab and Joe Zobkiw present the Land Marking app, which captures the sounds of social movements around the world. During the festival, attendees are invited to contribute their voices or listen to the location-based mix of music and voices contributed by previous participants. Vivan Thi Tang, a postgraduate in the Graduate Entrepreneur program at Goldsmiths University in London, created a customized beta of her irlbb app for Moogfest 2017, that presents a unique opportunity for participants to connect with potential collaborators.

Three New Cynthia Modules in Five Popular Formats

"Cyndustries.com Presents Three New Cynthia® Brand Synthesizer Modules in Five Popular Formats!

Whether you desire Euro Rack, Dotcom / Moog, MOTM, FracRak, or Modcan A-Series format additions to your electronic music studio... you'll find that our modules are aesthetically, mechanically, and electrically, compatible with a multitude of products and systems from other familiar manufacturers.
The new Density Series offers a ton of functions in a really compact space, visit our site to see FOUR FILTERS, FOUR TRANSIENTS, and The OCTAL VCA.

We are committed to making the finest and most sophisticated modules possible! This is our ninth year in business and we're just getting started!

Our brand name can be found on thousands of exotic synthesizer modules in over (35) countries, and we are presently establishing an international dealer network!

Cynthia brand modules are above all unique, useful, and of course, totally fun! Get your hands on these edgy high-precision designs, and in an instant you will know the Cynthia difference!"

The Four Filters module consists of four laboratory quality multi-mode, two-pole filters with voltage controlled cutoff and variable Q. So what's so special about them? Are they a new, cool, edgy-sounding type? No. Are they warm and fuzzy and tan and chocolatey in the mid-range? No. What's so great about them is that there are four of them. A veritable busy-box of precision filters. Now you can get way more sophisticated with your spectral shaping! (After all, doing subtractive synthesis with only one filter, is like trying to do additive synthesis with only one sine wave). Now the training wheels are off!

Each filter can be either Lowpass, Bandpass, Highpass, or Notch depending on how you pull or push the MODE knobs like this:
OUT IN Lowpass
IN OUT Highpass
OUT OUT Notch

By patching the filters in series, or mixing them in parallel, you can obtain some very complex spectral shapes, some moving, and some fixed if you like.

Examples:

Use a single filter in Lowpass mode in the traditional way.
Off-load one of your super-expensive, jet-powered filters with one of these.
Use as pseudo lowpass gates.
Put two (or more) lowpass in series to get four-pole or steeper response.
Patch three or four in series (all hi-Q, Lowpass) to create a vocal tract (or any pipe)!
Mix a notch and two Bandpass to create a good string voicing filter.
Put a Lowpass and Highpass in series with tandem control to create Yamaha CS-80 sounds.
Mix four Bandpass together with LFO control to create a spectral animator!
Mix one or more Bandpass / Notch with some dry signal to create a parametric equalizer / fixed filter bank.
Multiple hi-Q filters struck with impulses makes complex percussion!
Put Lowpasses in series with staggered CV control to create a variable slope filter.
Formants, formants, formants.

And it bears repeating: Trying subtractive synthesis with only one filter, is like trying additive synthesis with only one sine wave! Maybe the search for that one really great filter is over. The answer doesn't lie in any single filter you need more! A complex, moving spectrum is what entertains the ear... Here's the tool to for you to accomplish that!"
