Live with 3 SOMA ENIGMA + TERRA + PULSAR-23

video upload by SOMA Laboratory

"Have you wondered what your lucky charm sounds like? That old key, a metal ring (or a pendant) you never take off: with ENIGMA, you can find out. It’s a synthesizer that reacts to metal objects, so you can give a voice to something you’ve carried for years.

You can still join the first 'Family & Friends' release before the mass release, at a special NET price of 590 EUR (excl. VAT, shipping, customs, transfer fees) instead of the regular net price of 680 EUR.

Performance: Tim Kroker.

Feel the sound, not the screen: TERRA synth

video upload by SOMA Laboratory

"Do you want to lose yourself in a direct, intuitive interaction with sound where every touch shapes the tone?

SOMA TERRA gives that. No screens, no menus, no obstacles between you and the music. Just a pure physical interaction, like with an acoustic instrument.

Follow an idea as it appears in your mind, shape it into a phrase, and make it part of your music.

Watch Tim Kroker turn this direct connection into a composition.

Star Spangled Banner on the Soma Terra Synth - Nod to Jimi Hendrix

video upload by Lawrence Pritchard

"I'm learning to play my new Soma Terra synth and thought I'd try a rendition of the Star Spangled Banner. The style is inspired by the version played by Jimi Hendrix at the end of the Woodstock festival in 1969. Hendrix's iconic "Banner" was a sublime translation into music of the sense of turmoil, pain, beauty and hope that characterized the United States in the late 1960s.

It somehow feels appropriate to these days too.

The Soma Terra is an incredibly fun instrument to play. It's more of a performance synth rather than a sound design synth. The tactile immediacy of the Terra is kind of like playing an analog instrument like a guitar or violin...it responds well to subtle gestures. The Terra is just the sort of thing I need right now."

A DARK CINEMATIC Music Performance | SOMA TERRA | Exploration: 35 | PATIENCE IS THE GAME

video upload by Rick Hopkinson

"The Dirty Mirror takes these two behemoths of sonic perversion and adds an extra layer of nasty – using the core circuit of our Coma Reactor Eurorack module.

This three footswitch, 15 knob pedal looks complicated – but it’s not:

The BURN Channel (left side) is based on our Chemical Burn circuit, a nastier FY-6 variant.

The CHURN channel (right side) is based on a heavily modded Big Muff Pi.

There is a short delay circuit before the fuzz circuits.

Both the fuzz circuits can switch between the input sound, 100% wet delayed sound or a blend of wet and dry.

The fuzz circuits are then mixed in parallel into a high-headroom output section.

For added sickness, the delay time can be modified by an envelope follower or LFO.

Choose your filthy reflection – from straight dual parallel fuzz textures, to seasick vibrato to long slow quasi-chorus phasey apocalyptica.

The delay can be used on its own for slapback, chorus and vibrato effects.

Yes, it can get very noisy.
No, you can’t do anything about it - so weep in pain and pleasure, and submit to the swarms of square waves that joyfully fill your room.""'Patience is the game' is a live improvised cinematic ambient performance on the Soma Terra synthesiser; a deep and evolving journey through dark, cinematic ambient soundscapes.

Cinematic ambient music, dark atmospheric soundscape, experimental synthesiser performance, Soma Terra improvisation, ambient drone music.

This is my 35th cinematic ambient exploration in the Sanctuary series.... This time it's played on the Soma Terra synth by @somasynths
I keep coming back to this synth!
Best experienced with headphones 🎧"

Just some fun times talkin' about fun gear :)

Scope it out and read all about the gear in question on our blog, Signal.

WARP is a high-quality multi-purpose audio processing unit, able to add might and magic to almost any instrument. It contains 15 different effects that can be divided into three types:

Spatial effects — ranging from traditional reverbs to granular, experimental algorithms, with pitch-shifting, reverse and micro-loops. Most of the spatial effects feature extremely long decay times, all the way to infinity. With feedback ratios above 1 you can drive the algorithm into self-oscillation for creating endless, rich, lively soundscapes out of almost any sound. To keep the sound under control with reasonable headroom and tonal aesthetic, all the generative algorithms include dedicated modules to automatically control sound levels.
Special effects — such as flanger, sample rate/bit reduction, vintage tape simulation. All special effects include unusual functions giving them a unique SOMA flavor.
Dynamic effects and filters — compressors, distortions, filters. All the effects in this category can be applied to submixes, e.g. a rhythm section group, or even to the whole mix – so one can conventionally call them master effects. All the effects in this category also have their unique extended features, SOMA-style.
All of that makes WARP a great unit for spatial processing of any acoustic or electronic instruments — guitar, vocals, strings, synthesizers etc., — as well as processing drums or complete mixes. WARP uses top-class audio chains and AD/DA-converters, same as those found in the best professional audio-interfaces made by APOGEE, FOCUSRITE, LEXICON, ECHOAUDIO, LINE 6, NOVATION. This prevents sound deterioration, even in such demanding situations as processing a complete mix. WARP has stereo inputs and outputs, compatible with both balanced and non-balanced connections. All of the sound processing is digital, including the MIX control. The AD/DA resolution is 24bit/48KHz. The internal digital processing resolution is 32bit IEEE.

WARP has a simple, intuitive interface, with instant direct access to all functions — perfect for playing live. Every processing parameter has a dedicated CV input, controllable via Eurorack systems and any CV source.

"Comes in box with all materials. Updated to most recent firmware. A weird and wonderful tool. Many of the demos make it sound rather harsh, and it can do that, but it is also capable of warm, melodic, conventional soundscapes. You can tune the keys any way you like. This feels like playing an acoustic instrument, yet the sounds take you to electric planets. Light touches on the modifiers feel godlike in their sonic transformation."
