Demo of Casio CZ-1 Sounds

Demo starts at 2:41. Note Casio recently released the CZ synth engine for iPad: CZ App for iPad - CASIO COMPUTER CO., LTD.

"WARNING! This is a run through of 64 sounds loaded into my Casio CZ-1 Phase Distortion Synthesizer. This is NOT an exciting video. More than half are presets from the instrument, and the rest are modified presets, and original patches. Nothing fabulous for patches, but it does give you a high resolution sound sampling of the CZ synth, which I happen to love (and unfortunately haven't done much with in the last 5 or 6 year).

I would suggest just letting it run in the background and listening to it, because there's nothing really to watch.

For me, the more unique patches this synth can cough up use the ring modulation and the fake resonant waves. It's a very unique synth that's fairly easy to program, and I FIRMLY believe had it been released before the Yamaha DX-7, there's a good chance it would have sold more units than the DX-7. It's just that much easier to program and capable of a wider variety of usable sounds. That being said, I'm still a big fan of FM synthesis, it's just not as "user friendly" as implemented by Yamaha's line of DX synths.

And lastly please excuse all the mediocre keyboard playing. I would say I play AROUND with keyboards...I don't actually play them! Cheers!"

インスタ動画等ではついついモジュレーション地獄のようなものをアップしてしまいます­が、まずはとてもシンプルな音色で普通に演奏しています。SQ-1の再生方向もほぼス­トレート固定。各パートにもエフェクト等は一切かけず、録音した波形に映像編集時にリ­ミッターを使用したのみです。1発録りでもせめて音はパラ録りするべきでしたね（笑) 空間系エフェクトのかわりにカメラのマイクが拾ったモニター音を少し混ぜることで若干­広がりを演出しています。

Denver Synth Meet Set for March 14th

"Denver Synth Meet is a place for you to bring your favorite synth gear and share sounds and ideas with others. Think of it as a show and tell for synth enthusiasts! This year we focus on the hardware a bit more by giving incentives for you to bring both the gear you love and the gear you would like to sell or trade. Synth’s, drum machines, controllers, guitar pedals, modular modules and everything in between.

Synthesizers can captivate you at time of purchase and then end up unused, either because of a new purchase or a change in workflow. By bringing synth’s to the meet we all get a chance to explore individual possibilities and maybe hear different sounds and see different workflow’s in action.

We use the classic structure of VA-synths, with oscillators, filters and effects, with parameters that can be modulated using LFO's and envelopes. But every element has been retought and reinvented. In a digital way. The NF-1 has a classic 12dB/oct resonant filter, but we are also giving it a versatile formant filter, never seen in hardware before! "Doing another sound test with new camera. (I think it has a built in compression to the sound because of how the audio always comes out.)

"as far what I have heard and played I'd consider this the fattest synth on earth. please bear in mind that the synth was directly plugged into the sound card; no tubes, sutarizers, distorsion, compressors limiters or other stuff is involved or applied later to the track of the one-VCO-machine!!!
