Node - Pliers (1996)
Published on Sep 8, 2016 baward
"A rare track from Node, which only seems to have been released as part of a cover-mount CD that came free with Future Music magazine, back in January 1996."
Based on this Sound on Sound article (via The Synthesizer Book), some of what you are seeing is the following "Going around the room, then, Flood's setup consists of an ARP 1613 sequencer, a Roland System 700 and a Moog 3C. 'Whereas Ed will have one common clock and then he'll have maybe half a dozen sequences all running in different time signatures,' he says, 'I'll tend to work on one sequencer as being the core and then others maybe I'll bring in. Ed will tend to be much more multi-sequence-driven, and then it's just how we listen to each other. A lot of the times I'll set a sequence going and then I'll be off noodling with some other thing somewhere which generally involves the Putney [EMS VCS3].'"
Yamaha DX 7 & DX9 1983 US Demo Flexidisc
Published on Aug 19, 2016 baward
"A soundsheet attached to 'Keyboard' magazine.
"1: DX7 & DX9 performances, by Gary Leuenberger and Don Lewis.
2: L'Dady (David Paich); The One (Steve Porcaro), performed by David Paich, Steve Porcaro and James Newton Howard.
All sounds except programmed rhythms were performed on the DX7 and DX9 FM Synthesizers."
Interesting to note that key members of the rock band Toto were writers and performers on this recording."

"This synth is in great condition. Everything works great and sounds amazing, the only issue i just noticed is the headphone jack is not working. All other aspects of the synth operate beautifully. It's all analog so it takes a few minutes for all four oscillators to warm up and then you can expect stable tuning from there on out. With 4 oscillators it's a monster!"
Not all oscillators have the same punch on vintage analog synths though. The Minimoog with 3 has much more oomph than the Mono/Poly for example. The ARP Odyssey and Sequential Circuits Pro-One, both with only two oscillators, also have a bolder, rawer sound. That said, the Mono/Poly does sound nice!

You'll find the full feature on Soundfly here.
"Today, we’re going to take a look at modular synthesis as it’s used in the modern electronic landscape, and highlight its flexibility in studying the way that a wide variety of artists use it in an equally wide variety of genres. While this isn’t really a piece to encourage you to buy a modular… be warned: By the end, you may have accidentally caught the synth bug!"
