Inside a Mellotron M400: How the Mellotron Works
Published on Nov 27, 2017
"Here's a look inside a Mellotron M400 we just restored and an explanation of how it works! The famous (or notorious) Mellotron M400, made in the 1970s, is a unique keyboard instrument in which every key plays back a recording of that note on actual magnetic tape.
This Mellotron (#1344) was restored by Alison Stout at Bell Tone Synth Works in Philadelphia, PA. Read more about this and other vintage keyboard restorations on our blog at http://belltonesynthworks.com!"

Enjoy. BTW, anyone remember what the tube keyboard instrument was called? Tube something or other.
"This concert at the 'carussel of the youth' from 1970 is the earliest existing concert video of these electronic pioneers. The band was just created this year and could be seen in the original setup.

VCV Rack vs Hardware: is there a difference? Testing Mutable Instruments Clouds, Rings and Elements
Published on Nov 29, 2017 loopop
"One of the really interesting things about VCV Rack in my view is, besides being open source and free, that it comes with free versions of Mutable Instruments’ modules, some of the most sought after and successful eurorack modules. Controversially, Olivier (Mutable CEO) has decided to discontinue some of the most successful ones… yet the most admirable thing he does is to open source the code for his modules, so they have the potential to live on and evolve forever.
The big question I had is, how do they compare to the real thing? If the differences are small or even unnoticeable, VCVRack can become very disruptive.
I picked three of his most beautifully sounding modules (in my view of course…) Elements, Rings and Clouds (which is has been discontinued!) – and I compare the sound of the hardware to that of the software. These modules are digital, so they have a good chance of sounding similar, but DAC and other hardware magic or software tweaks might make a difference."

Synthesizers.com Introduces the TB22++ Thought Box 22-Space Synthesizer System
via synthesizers.com

Note the built-in case handle.
"TB22++'s folding enclosure offers a brushed-aluminium handle. Turn the sleeves on the ends of the handle to unlatch and unfold the system in one easy step.
At the bottom of the enclosure is a channel holding the power supply along with storage for the patch cables. The channel's cover unfolds into a cable holder.
Module functions include: MIDI converter, arpeggiator, slew-limiter/portamento, three oscillators each with EG and VCA, gate math, sample & hold, noise with low-pass filter, sine/square LFO, dual envelope generator, state variable filter with VC resonance, 4-channel mixer with signal processing, VCA with panning, tuner and headphone amplifier, 8x16 step sequencer with trigger I/O, sequential switch, 3-channel quantizer.
Use TB22++ with any MIDI source such as a MIDI keyboard or a computer, or play it with the controls.
The two Box11 cabinets provide 4 groups of multiples and the Q175A module provides multiples for pitch and gate.
Folding enclosure with rugged hardware and a built-in power system. Goes anywhere.
Low-profile, color-coded patch cables included. See more about these.
The TB22++ is a Moog-Unit (MU) format synthesizer using 1/4" patch cables (included)."

Perfect Patch - Live No DAW Jam #19
Published on Nov 28, 2017 Jay Hoskins
"Title: Perfect Patch
Genre: Electronic Downtempo
Artist: Rite Rain Causality - Jay Hoskins
Played live and recorded directly from the stereo mixer outputs.
This was a short piece I put together for a recent contest by Perfect Circuit. Entries were posted to Instagram so there was only a minute to work with. It was hard to do something in a minute and there were more modulations to explore than would fit, not to mention that It is pleasant just to let it run.
In this performance the circuit is on the sidelines and I'm using the LFO on the Studio Electronics Tonestar 2600 for master tempo to the Tempi. Baseline is coming from the Pittsburgh Modular SV-1 sequenced by the Tempi and Akai Timbre Wolf. The other three voices of the Timbre Wolf are doing the pad chords through the Eowave Fluctuations filter. Tempi, Rene, and the Turing Machine are sequencing the Tonestar for the lead synth. The Tempi and Mutable instruments Braids provides the Kick. Finally the sparkle is added by Rings which is doubling the lead voice with a high frequency strike from Tempi."

5:29: sounds like JMJ needs to explore FM synthesis. :) Just kidding. I believe he's referring to the change in focus the DX7 brought towards just playing presets vs. exploring sound.
