1. Sequential Prophet6 jam P6 up and (too) close #1: filter resonance whistly
Live Prophet-6 jam 23 Oct 2018.
Lots of whistle on filter resonance from 2:35. Apreggiated notes - just playing the controls. Digital effects off at 5:17. Some quantization as I moved the filter cutoff knob at 5:44. Inverted filter envelope to filter at 0:54.
Anyone who doesn't like bad camerawork better not watch this. However, I wanted to get the idea of the thrill of playing an ultra real time controllable synthesizer like the Prophet-6 so oftentimes I wanted both hands to play the controls.
2. Sequential Prophet6 jam P6 up and (too) close #2 filter resonance vs clean
Sequential Prophet6 jam P6 up and (too) close filter resonance vs clean (no resonance). Resonance turned from around 8 to 0 after 2:17. Apreggiated sequence to maximize fun of playing the controls on this wonderful analog synth keyboard.
3. Sequential Prophet6 jam P6 up and (too) close #3: PWM pulse width modulation.
Sequential Prophet6 jam P6 up and (too) close PWM pulse width modulation with and without filter mod.
Anyone who doesn't like bad camerawork better not watch this. However, I wanted to get the idea of the thrill of playing an ultra real time controllable synthesizer like the Prophet-6 so oftentimes I wanted both hands to play the controls.
"Absolutely mint condition Dreadbox Abyss 4-Voice Polyphonic Synth, hand-built in Greece by Dreadbox. 1 VCO+Sub oscillator per voice. 4 playing modes (e.g. polyphonic, chord, unison AND multi-channel). For users of the Roli keyboards, this allows 4-voice MIDI Polyphonic Expression control, making it a great module for Roli keyboards."
"With independent pattern length and clock divisions per track, Steppy is able to generate a variety of rhythms from simple patterns.
Steppy is a 4-track programmable gate sequencer with eight internal memory slots, external clocking, numerous tweakable parameters, and a performance-first design aesthetic.
Each track features numerous independent parameters that govern its playback independently of the other tracks. Specifically:
Today I wanted to make sure to update you what's been happening around the studio and my SH2-VCF prototype module. Been busy organizing a big garage sale, re-organizing the studio, hanging synth shelves, trying to source a 4-foot wood table, and working for about 2 months on my SH-2 filter prototype.
This SH-2 filter came about as I had a few BA6110 chips laying around and wanted to do something with them. First I built the filter on a breadboard and it wasn't working. Turns out 1/2 my new old stock chips were not doing their job for some reason. No biggie, I designed/ordered some pcb/panels and some more BA6110 chips from ebay.
As luck would have it these chips would be the bane of my existence. I ordered some more BA6110 from activeparts and none of those worked. I also adapted my board to accept the different pinouts for some BA662 Open Labs clones...those caught fire. On the forums these clones are highly admired and used in X0XB0X apparently. It's all good, I just wasn't able to get them to work in this circuit.
So until I get this BA6110/662 issue figured out I won't be able to build any more modules to sell. Time to move on to some other projects and, forbid, make any music :)
Be warned - some harsh resonance acid house squealing ahead!
Sequential Prophet XL Introduction Published on Oct 23, 2018 Dave Smith Instruments
"The Sequential Prophet XL is a 76-key version of the acclaimed Prophet X — a potent fusion of samples-plus-synthesis and the most ground-breaking evolution of the Prophet yet: https://www.sequential.com/product/pr..."
And the press release followed by some hi-res pics:
San Francisco, CA—Oct 23, 2018—Sequential today announced the Prophet XL, a 76-key version of their flagship Prophet X samples-plus-synthesis hybrid synth. The new instrument provides the same powerful combination of high-fidelity samples from 8Dio and full synthesis capabilities that has earned the Prophet X critical acclaim — but makes the concept even more compelling for studio and stage by adding a semi-weighted-action, 76-key, premium-quality Fatar keybed and a new performance mode that allows 32-voice polyphony when using a single sampled instrument and a single oscillator.
At the heart of both the Prophet XL and the Prophet X is a sound engine that powers two simultaneous 16-bit, 48kHz sample-based instruments plus two high-resolution digital oscillators with waveshape modulation — all processed through analog filters. In standard performance mode, the instrument provides bi-timbral, 8-voice-stereo, or 16-voice mono operation.
Dave Smith commented: “We designed the Prophet XL for musicians who wanted more of a good thing. By adding an extended, semi-weighted action keyboard and enabling 32-voice performance mode, we’ve made it even more satisfying to play the acoustic and electric pianos and other instruments where increased polyphony is crucial. We’re making 32-voice mode available on the Prophet X, as well, so that all of our users will benefit.”
Sample content for the Prophet X series was created by sound developers 8Dio, known for pioneering “deep sampling.” Regarding the new instrument, 8Dio co-founder Troels Folmann said: “For us, it’s all about giving musicians the best tools to express themselves. The Prophet XL is a great enhancement of the original Prophet X concept because it gives artists more room to breathe. More keys and more voices means more room to explore and create.”
The 150 GB sample library in the Prophet XL and Prophet X includes numerous acoustic and electronic instruments as well as an extensive collection of ambient and cinematic effects. Users can shape the samples through loop manipulation, sample stretching, and the synthesizer’s many sound-sculpting functions which include 4 envelope generators, 4 LFOs, a deep modulation matrix, and other tools. The Prophet XL and Prophet X also provide 50 gigabytes of internal storage for importing additional samples. Support for user-created sample content is planned for December, 2018.
The Prophet XL will be available in November of 2018 with a MAP of $4,399.
