SoundSaw - The Art Of Sound Destruction (presets demo)

video upload by Igor Vasiliev

New iOS app from Igor Vasiliev who brought us SynthScaper, SynthScaper LE, FiedScaper, Classic FX, BeatCutter, and SoundScaper.

"SoundSaw is a complex sound processing app with easy-to-use controls designed to distort the sound of musical instruments or voice, and give the sound the aesthetics and atmosphere of noise, lo-fi, chiptune and experimental music scene."

"SoundSaw is a complex sound processing app with easy-to-use controls designed to distort the sound of musical instruments or voice, and give the sound the aesthetics and atmosphere of noise, lo-fi, chiptune and experimental music scene.

Depending on the settings, it can add light distortion and saturation to the sound for a more natural and lively sound, or drastically change the sound and make it as loud and harsh as possible, full of all kinds of harmonics, crackles and rattles. The settings of this app provide great opportunities for experiments with sound destruction.

All controls are located on a single screen, grouped by function into six sections with a plain way of signal path from the first section "Input" to the last section "Output". The chain of individual effects in this app is designed in such a way as to get the most interesting result for any parameter values in the widest possible range.

App features:

- Simulates different types of signal processing electronic circuits and their typical harmonic saturation and noise (static and dynamic).
- The Maximizer keeps the maximum signal level for more noticeable distortions and feedback effects, and has a mode for hold the maximum volume when the input signal decays.
- The Overload effect works like an electronic circuit when the signal is much higher than the maximum allowable level and oversaturated the signal various kinds of harmonics.
- The Decimator and Bitcrusher effects produce very noticeable digital artifacts typical of cheap devices with simple DACs / ADCs, and add various kinds of crackles and rattles.
- The Feedback effect is similar to acoustic feedback, but more controllable, with the resonant frequency varying in accordance with the harmonics of the input signal.
- The 4-pole filter controlled by the envelope generator can be used after distortion effects. Filter types: Low pass, High pass, Band pass and Notch.
- The envelope generator is controlled by the input signal and can generate a single cycle of envelope, repeat cycles or work continuously.
- At the output there is a filter that can cut the high or low range of the original signal and mix it with the processed signal."

Cherry Audio MEMORYMODE // Amazing Value MEMORYMOOG emulation // review, demo and walkthrough

video upload by Starsky Carr

"Another exceptionally good value synth from Cherry Audio. I take a look at all the main functions and do a bit of a comparison vs my Minimoog to see if it hits the spot from a filter and FM perspective.

If you're looking at buying a new synth try this link for Perfect Circuit - I might get a bung ;) https://www.pjtra.com/t/SENKTExLTUtDS..."

Stacking polyphony - A Supercritical Demon Core Oscillator thing

video upload by Supercritical Synthesizers

"Here’s a different approach. The expander is set to the alternative CV mode (hold FN and click MODE) and inputs 3 and 4 are used to control the octave stack size and the interval. Interval is set to a fifth with a static CV and the stack size is randomized. Transpose the whole thing with the main 1V/oct input and it gets jazzy. The patch has some PWM action on the DCO, a wide 2 pole LP / 2 pole HP (Yellow Mean 1 Pole setting) on the Neutron Flux, some reverb and octave shimmer from the Beads. This is how a weird orchestra would sound tuning up."

Ai017 Eurorack Low Pass Gate First Look

video upload by AI Synthesis

"A demo video for the AI Synthesis AI017 Eurorack Low Pass Gate.
Available at aisynthesis.com
The AI017 Low Pass Gate Eurorack Module can be used as a Voltage Controlled Filter, Voltage controlled Amplifier, or both. The AI017 is an updated variation of the classic Buchla 200 Series Low Pass Gate, updated with a tunable resonance circuit, and a Depth control. Vactrols are used for control voltage, allowing for classic "ringing" and "bongo" effects.

It can be purchased as a module, or DIY Kit and PCB/Panel Set.

The Depth control compensates the vactrols inability to drop lower than 100 ohms, which can allow audio bleed on traditional Low Pass Gates. The effect can be switched on or off, as depth will attenuate the classic ringing and bongo effect. This gives the user an easy way to go from a "vintage" Low Pass Gate to a "modern" Low Pass Gate with a flick of the switch. A rear trimmer allows for the tuning of the resonance."

Waldorf Microwave XTk - 30 Voice Wavetable Synthesizer w/ New OLED Display & Grey Side Panels

"It includes the following maintenance modifications: - Newer Fatar keybed (The original was getting old) - Newer Knobs - Vaccuum Display - Newer internal power supply (The original was no longer available) - All potentiometers/encoders/switches have been replaced with the nice Japanese ones

The synth is fully functional, and it plays very nice.

Note: The original volume pot was replaced as well, there is an issue where the volume value on the display sometimes jumps around 1 digit, possibly due to a slightly different value in the part, but it does not affect the sound at all, and Waldorf told me that there was nothing to worry about and that the synth is fine. I have been using it like that for years without issue, so I did not feel it needed to be addressed. The pots are new and tight, and they do what they are supposed to do."
