"Ho-Ho-Ho! This is Synthmas '21, the virtual calendar presenting a Christmas carol played by synthesizers - every day from 1st to 24th of December.

The song:
In 1970 the non spiritual carol was recorded for the GDR's most popular Christmas album "Bald nun ist Weihnachtszeit" (Soon it's Christmas Time) by the Rundfunk Kinderchor Leipzig (childrens choir). Each of the four verses is about lighting one advent candle until Christmas eve.

The gear:
I play this song on my Vermona Piano-Strings. The instrument was built from 1978 by "VEB Klingenthaler Harmonikawerke" and is one of the very few string machines produced in the late Eastern Bloc. It's appearance might resemble famous string machines like ARP Solina, however the features of the Piano-Strings are quite limited. There is a piano part and a strings part, but they can't be played together. Each section has 3 tone faders changing its character. I feel oddly bonded to that instrument: in my youth I was playing the piano in our music school band. At a rehearsel I failed playing my part because I was too lazy to learn my sheet. So I was degraded to playing some simple string chords - on a Vermona Piano-Strings! I was very happy to get one of these after all those years. Most prominent Vermona player was Moby before his one was sold on Reverb.com [Moby Reverb posts]

Since the Vermona Piano-Strings neither got MIDI nor CV/Gate control I play by hand.

I also used the AudioThing plugin Wires for the warm, warbly goodness."

"I'm a big fan of synths, live sets and travelling. And that's what my channel is about. Legendary Roland Jupiter 4, Moog One and my Virus Access is quite a good combination to make me happy for a couple of hours. Had not quite clear idea what to play, but decided to put some progressive house chords and sequences.

Added later beat section, some FXs and footage from my last trip throughout Altay, Baikal and Bashkyria. And here you go! Short video with sort of Progressive House music, plus material for potential track!

Roland Jupiter 4 is a veteran made in 1978. In such synthesizers, electrolytic capacitors "dry up" over time, as a result of which they must be well warmed up and tuned every time.

"Here's a incredibly rare piece of Sequential Circuits memorabilia that we've never seen offered for sale anywhere. We got this a while ago from someone who worked for Sequential Circuits back in the day.

This item is unused, new old stock (!).

We googled this to see if we could find any reference to it and we couldn't, so we suspect they made very very few of them. Over 40 years later, we imagine most of them are long gone, and any surviving examples, if there are any, would be in poor condition.

As of writing this, we have 2 others available (search our website for jacket). We realize our asking price may seem quite high for a jacket, but, as mentioned, these jackets are pieces of vintage synth memorabilia and are the only ones of their kind we've ever seen in decades, and we've seen it all. Plus, there are some very serious collectors out there, and this is quite an interesting piece. If it doesn't sell soon, we may gradually lower the price, so if you're interested but don't want to pay our asking price, please let us know."
