"Very little use, latest firmware, runs on Raspberry Pi 4B, faster and more memory than OG Norns. Ships with USB-C power adapter and 16gb SD card. The encoders are a little jumpy when turned quickly, and only on the PARAMS page, which I’ve learned is a common issue and can be rectified by editing the appropriate Lua file. Cheers!"

Eurorack Ring Modulators

video upload by John Schussler

"Ring modulation, according to the interwebs, is basically AM modulation (amplitude modulation) that goes through the full cycle. In AM modulation, any frequency below zero simply stops the oscillator. With ring modulation, you're still modulating the amplitude, but when the signal goes below zero volts it inverts the oscillator signal rather than stopping it. This creates a variety of new harmonics.

But those aren't necessarily 'ringing' harmonics. The ring in the name comes from the fact that most ring modulators use a "ring" of 4 diodes one into the other to create the effect.

Here's a sampling of the modules I have at the moment, doing a basic comparison of how their timbres differ. And a few have extra features that I'll try to resist playing with for sake of a fair comparison, but will probably fail in the attempt.

Sequence: Stochastic IG. VCO: Dixie II+ square (carrier) and saw (modulator). Envelope: Zadar

Dreamsynth Quick Minute

video upload by boxoftextures

"New from Cherry Audio.

Only had this a few minutes and already feel totally at home in it. Just made these three patches and wanted to get this out there so folks could get an idea of what it's about. This is the short version just to hear the patches though, the longer version will show how I built them. Might take me a day or three to get that edited though.

This thing's a winner. Three oscillators, each with dual waves with hundreds of choices, three LFOs, easy and flexible modulation and routing, sounds great. It's deep yet at the same time simple to operate. Recommended.

ASM HYDRASYNTH: Microtonal sequencing with step LFOs

video upload by CALUTRON

"The step function of the Hydrasynth's LFOs is a powerful tool. You can use it to create microtonal sequences even without switching to an alternative tuning for the whole synth."

KORG EX-8000

video upload by SyntheticMachines

"3 multitrack demos made with the KORG EX-8000 synthesizer

part1: 00:00 all sounds from the EX-8000
part2: 02:49 EX-8000 + Synthwave Drums VSTi
part3: 06:08 EX-8000 + Future Retro Transient

part3: all drums and FX sounds were made with the FR Transient, controlled via the Stillson Hammer MK2. I've used 3 cv + gate controlled tracks, multitrack recorded + additional FX (reverb, delay & compression). As always a multitrack recording with some fx."

Sequential Artist Spotlight: The Graduating Class

video upload by Sequential

"Portland band The Graduating Class describe their sound as "Anderson .Paak and Daryl Hall going on a three week bender in Quincy Jones’ studio." Stylistically, the group blends modern production techniques with tonal and songwriting influences from the 1970s and 80s, and guitarist John Queant serves as the lead producer on every song.

This video spotlight features John Queant with the Prophet Rev2 and Prophet-5 synthesizers.

"This short improvisation came after playing with the patch 533 - Blades from J3POs P5 patches - [posted here]
which are fantastic by the way, thanks J3PO!. I then starting building something very similar on the P5 Rev 2 and hit record.
Prophets are going via SSL2+ into Ableton and have some Valhalla Supermassive Triangulum reverb.

Moog Matriarch + Sequential Pro 3 Generative Ambient Dreamscape

video upload by MKDVB

"I could listen to the Moog Matriarch doing its self generative ambient dreamscape music for hours. This time around, I patched in the Sequential Pro 3 for added textural ambient synth goodness. The small eurorack modular rig was all patched up but between the Matriarch, Pro 3 and Microvolt 3900, the soundscape was full enough.

Moog Matriarch - Generative ambient rhythm line and sequences
Sequential Pro 3 - Lead ambient synth sounds
Pittsburgh Modular Microvolt 3900 - Tinkly high ambient synth sounds
Chase Bliss Meris CXM 1978
Additional plug-in FX in post."

The 808 and 909 clone in ONE box!

video upload by Ricky Tinez

"The Novation DrumStation is probably one of the rarer drum machines or drum rack units i've ever come across. I've wanted one for ages, and they always seem to slip passed me, and eventually i convinced myself i didn't need it. Now that i have it i Love! It uses ASM technology with digitally models analog waveshapes and sounds to recreate the sounds of the original Roland TR-808 and Roland TR-909 drum machines. I think it's an incredible alternative giving you access to both machines at once."
