BAF 2024: Days Of Yore - The Tower Spring Reverb

video upload by sonicstate

"At the Buchla and Friends event in downtown LA, Kassia from Days of Yore showcased their latest creation - The Tower a 42-inch spring reverb that doubles as a beautiful piece of furniture. The reverb unit features three springs and offers a range of analog effects including gate, vibrato, feedback, send-return, mixer settings, overdrive, input volume, pickup intensity, and a compressor. The gate feature helps eliminate unwanted sounds and control the length of the reverb. The hand-built spring reverb is priced at $3,600, with production set to begin in March.

Kassia also presented the Matrix Mixer, a unique design with five inputs and outputs that allows for creative modulation and the creation of unexpected sounds. The matrix mixer combines channels to generate resonance, feedback loops, and endless soundscapes. Its upright design was chosen to save space in the studio, as the mixer is meant to complement traditional mixers rather than replace them. The Matrix Mixer will be available in April for $2,600.

BAF 2024 - Prism Circuits - Quasar System

video upload by sonicstate

"At Buchla And Friends 2024, we met up with Nick from Prism Circuits who showed us their new Serge-based Quasar modular system. The system is based on the 4U standard, making it larger than Eurorack and it draws inspiration from the early electronic music circuits created by composer Serge Tcherepnin in the 1970s. The goal was to create an affordable modular synthesizer that could be customized based on individual preferences.

The Quasar system is designed for improvisation and live performances, and features a unique hieroglyphic language developed by Serge, with symbols representing different functions and outputs. Nick explained one advantage of the Prism Circuits system over Eurorack is its standardized grid format, making it convenient to navigate and locate modules quickly.

Prism Circuit's modules are handmade in the United States, using through-hole components and ensuring each instrument is crafted with care and longevity in mind, and typically cost around $2,500 per panel, but prices may vary depending on the components included."

BAF 2024: 1010 Music - Nanobox Battery Case

video upload by sonicstate

"At NAMM 2024, Sonic State caught up with Aaron from 1010 Music at Buchla and Friends to discuss their new battery-powered case for the Nanobox range. The easily attached unit serves as both a carrying case and a rechargeable battery, allowing users to power the device on the go. This transforms the Nanoboxes into truly portable powerhouses, and unlike other portable units with an internal battery, when the battery finally dies, as all batteries eventually do, you simply clip on another battery, and your Nanobox lives on. The battery case has endurance of up to four hours, adds much requested USB midi functionality, and is compatible with all of the Nanobox range devices.

Nanobox Battery Case Available: February 2024. Price: 69 USD"

Behringer Reveals New UB-X Keyboard Synthesizer

via Behringer

"UB-X is alive!

Today we've fired up the first complete prototype - what an amazing moment.

We’re now starting to implement the firmware and do thorough testing. Please bear in mind that we’re still far away from shipping the UB-X, but we’re making huge progress.

Isn't it a beautiful synth?"

The UB-X was first teased by Behringer back in April, 2022. The of course released the UB-XA. Curious if they will follow up with a UB-16 based on the OB-8.

Behringer Reveals RD-78 Drum Machine

via Behringer

"RD-78 is now up and running!

We are in the last stages of pre-production and are working closely with our beta testers to ensure the unit sounds spot on.

And for those who love the technical details, we have incorporated the exact same circuitry into the design, including the original coils and LC filters.

The team is filled with excitement about this legendary drum machine."

trkr_Trm - Upcoming Portable Hardware Groovebox Tracker

video upload by hinick

trkr_Trm is a new 64bit real-time tracker/groovebox that runs on the Linux.

The following are some details in via the creator, hi_nick aka hihihihinick.

"The device is implicitly designed for hosting Renoise, but as shown can be used for many other ARM64 based programs. Even the well loved headless M8 tracker. I wanted to make something that was just as fun and musically useful as some of the other retail offerings but following the tenants of open source hardware and software so anyone can roll their own. The demo is of the v1 t prototype, and there is still much to be done, but at present, I'm up to prototype v3. The focus presently is completion of the design for the main board which will serve as a carrier for Raspberry Pi compute modules, or offerings from other companies that use the compute module form factor. This carrier board ideally could be used for other purposes than the trkr_Trm, that require audio i/o, and modular connections to peripheral devices.

The goal is to have everything, including build guides, hardware, and software repositories live upon completion of a crowd funding campaign. Pre-built units for those who just want to 'get to cookin' will be available if all goes to plan during and post funding."
