Suncrest Echoes | Dual Elektron Monomachine IDM with the new aftermarket +Drives from MachineStore

video upload by MIDERA

"Last night we decided to get a Corn Snake. I used to have a beautiful California King Snake that I sadly parted ways with back in 2014. I deeply regret that. My daughter was begging to have a pet that was 'hers' and after thinking through the options (my favorite being a rat, but I'm allergic to them now), we went with a snake. My daughter kept going back to one that had a 'small tail', making it B grade. It's likely it was incubated too hot and now has a defect. But it was cute that she continued to choose that one over all the others. I think deep down she figured I'd be most likely to accept the 'cheapest one' but she maintains it was because she felt bad for it because no one seemed to want her. She named the snake Mocha because "you both like Mochas" (referring to me and my wife). Currently, the snake has been staring at me for the last 30 minutes.

I also wanted to plug the new +Drives for the Elektron Monomachines and Marchinedrums. If you have these instruments, definitely consider the upgrades if you don't have them. I purchased TWO of them. Installation was incredibly simple too. Here's a set of links to check out. Ask questions too!

"Elster from LPZW is an all-in-one cymbal section in 4HP, based on the circuitry and ROMs of the classic 909 drum machine. It provides three different cymbal sounds, including Ride, Crash, and both open and closed Hihats. It contains a number of creative and performance based controls, such as the dedicated Accent CV input, giving you access to the same kind of expression found on the original machine. The Decay slider allows you to dial in the perfect sound for your cymbals, along with the bipolar CV input for extra expression potential. The Pitch slider gives you access to the classic Pitch/Speed sound from modulating the speed of samples, along with the Range switch, which emulates a similar pitch range as the original 909, or expands the range even further for more experimental results.

The Reverse Playback button gives you instant access to reversed version of each cymbal, apart from the Hihat mode, which when engaged allows the REV CV input to become a trigger for the Open Hihat. The LPZW also comes with a Mojo switch, which when active adds subtle drive and coloration to your cymbals, allowing them to sit better in a full mix. If you're looking for a well-rounded cymbal module, the Elster from LPZW provides excellent sound and performance capabilities, all in only 4HP.

ELSTER FEATURES

ROMs and circuitry based on the classic 909
Ride, Crash and Hihats sounds
Trigger Open and Closed hihat sounds independently
Accent gate input
Pitch/Speed slider with bipolar CV input
Decay slider with bipolar CV input
Reverse Playback button and CV input
Mojo switch adds drive to samples"

Ebb and flood: a modular bio-modeling of the tide

video upload by

"Tides and music have a lot in common. Hydrographers decompose tides into their “harmonic” constituents and investigate how ocean basins 'resonate' with certain oscillations, while anthropologists and historians explore how tides have shaped the “rhythms” of social existence (Ancient Hawaiians, for instance, synchronized their daily lives to the tides by singing chants to the moon).

In this video, I recreate some of the complex forces behind the tides, by using precisely-calibrated oscillators, adders, and other modules. I then use this 'bio-model' to drive two musical patches – the first in VCV Rack, the second in Eurorack.

0:00 Patch 1: Harmony of the Tides (VCV Rack)
4:10 Patch 2: Lunisolar voices (VCV Rack + Eurorack)

A few books were useful (and inspiring) for this project:
Jonathan White, Tides: The Science and Spirit of the Ocean (2017); Rachel Carson’s classics, The Sea Around Us (1951) and The Edge of the Sea (1955); and Paul Schureman, Manual of Harmonic Analysis and Prediction of Tides (1958)

Casio VZ-1 EXTERNAL PHASE mode

video upload by Collector Current

"The Casio VZ-1 lets you combine oscillators into complex sound generators using "EXTERNAL PHASE" mode. There are many possible combinations; in this video we only look at 4 oscillators and combinations of MIX and PHASE mode.

Supercritical Redshift 6 Review

video upload by Molten Music Technology

"Reshift 6 is a remarkable 6-voice analogue synthesizer with up to 16 oscillators per voice, stacked or unstacked, unison, polyphonic and paraphonic multitimbral synth machine. There are some alarming holes in the intended feature set, but Supercritical are certainly onto something with the Demon Core Oscillators.

Supercritical sent me the Redshift 6 for review but have no say over the content."
