How John Carpenter Created Fear with 5 Notes | The Halloween Theme Synth Story
video upload by Nostalgic Explorer
"What happens when fear is built from just five notes? 🎃
In this episode, I explore the haunting genius of John Carpenter’s Halloween Theme — a soundtrack that changed horror forever. With low budget for an orchestra, Carpenter composed the theme inspired by a rhythm his father taught him as a kid. Using synthesizers and pure instinct, he scored one of the most recognizable horror songs of the 80s.
I’ll also recreate the track in my studio using the Roland Juno-60 and E-mu Proteus 1, running through an Akai MG614 mixer and Ampex MX-10 preamp, capturing that analog tension that defined the original.
💬 If you know more about the original synths used, drop your theories in the comments!

Minimal Electronic with norns shield, NTS-1 Loop EG, OP-1 field : Star Trail 2025-10-24 by atnr
video upload by atnr
"A piece created with norns shield, @KORG_INC NTS-1, and @teenageengineering OP-1 field — a minimal ambient composition where looping envelopes, micro-loops, and sustained tones intertwine to form delicate textures.
On the norns shield, the sines script is used to generate various types of sustained tones, controlled via the monome grid. The output is routed through @HologramElectronics MICROCOSM with the GLITCH effect applied.
The NTS-1 receives MIDI sequencing from Ableton, with the envelope generator set to loop, creating finely textured rhythmic particles. Its output passes throug @ChaseBlissAudio LOSSY, adding reverb and a lo-fi character.
On the OP-1 field, sampled vocal sounds are used to create harmonies triggered by MIDI from Ableton. A touch of delay from @ChaseBlissAudio MOOD MKII is added, while the TAPE mode is used to generate micro-loops with a warm, lo-fi tone."

Korg Introduces EXs325 Yangqin Chinese Hammered String Instrument for KRONOS & NAUTILUS
video upload by Korg
"There are many types of Hammered string instruments used around the world. The Chinese version of the dulcimer is known as the Yangqin and often referred to as the "Chinese Piano". It plays a very important role in the accompaniment of Chinese string and wind instruments. EXs325 focuses on the local sound character and the articulation of the Yangqin - unique sounds that are heard throughout traditional Chinese music.
The sampled Yangqin was made from the sweet-sounding rosewood, and played with relatively hard hammers. While we have many playing techniques and tones of Yangqin, we have collected these useful, easy-to-use techniques:
・Attack / Stick Variation (Main, Reverse, Bottom, Finger)
・Tremolo
・Harmonics
・Ghost Note
・No Pedal
And like EXs323 Erhu -Traditional Chinese Violins-, we did special PCM editing, sound programming, and crossfading. This allows the smooth (stepless) dynamic transitions and natural performance control with various controllers.
Additionally, we realized round robin and tempo-adaptive tremolo using wave sequences. The EXs325 offers greater realism than ever before and brings new performance possibilities. We highly recommend for all KRONOS/NAUTILUS users looking for some beautiful and unusual sounds.
Details:
0:00 - 0:10 = Opening
0:11 - 2:24 = About Yangqin history and the family
2:25 - 4:32 = About Yangqin mechanism
4:33 - 6:00 = EXs325 sounds and programming
6:01 - 9:10 = EXs325 articulations 1 (Sticks & Character)
9:11 - 13:00 = EXs325 articulations 2 (Tremolo)
13:01 - 15:25 = EXs325 articulations 3 (Ghost notes)"
