L'Oiseau Mecanique - My Maria

"A remix of Schuberts "Ave Maria" by L'Oiseau Mecanique (LOM). He is one of my SequencomatV3 users and made this for a demo video of my tool. More about the templates at http://music-interface.com/
Beneath Sequencomat, Spectrasonics Stylus RMX was used. The song is not finished and got more demo charakter showing the functions of the sequencer... but I love it! I host it for him as long as he got no homepage till now. You can download a free mp3 here: http://soundcloud.com/tonvibration/lo..."

Kebu - To the unknown woman (Korg M-500 & PE-2000 demo)
YouTube via kebunator | June 27, 2010 | 3:22
"Here is a song I composed to demonstrate a few sounds from the Korg Micro-Preset (M-500) and Polyphonic Ensemble Orchestra (PE-2000) analog synthesizers, both from the 1970's.
After the song was composed, I noticed that it bears some similarities to Vangelis' song "To the unknown man" (most of the chord changes and the key - C sharp). While "To the unknown man" grows into a quite bombastic tune from its humble beginnings, this tune stays rigid, but still airy and modest until the end, kind of complementing each other. Hence the song title.
Each part was recorded separately to a reel-to-reel recorder (Tascam 38) and mixed using an analog mixer. An analog drum machine (Roland TR-808) was used for providing the rhythm track. A tape delay (Roland RE-201) was the only effect used in addition to a phaser (EHX small stone) for the noise. Mild EQ and limiting was used in the final digital mastering stage."

Marietta Cashman and the Buchla 100
by Hannah M.G. Shapero"From 1967 through 1970 my father, composer Harold Shapero, was director of the Brandeis University electronic music studio. The studio was equipped with a Buchla 100 modular synthesizer, which was at the time the state of the art. Though I was not a Brandeis student, but still in high school, my father allowed and encouraged me to work with the Buchla in the studio. I started working there when I was 14 and continued until I was 17. The portrait you see of me with the Buchla was taken (by my father) in 1970."
via Just Not Normal where you'll find the full article.
Update via Pyracantha in the comments: "I'm thrilled to find my 1960s rediscovery featured on this Blog! I have returned to electronic music after 40 years and am trying to work with modern softsynths and field recordings. I am working on a noise album which I hope to release on "Just Not Normal" when it's done.
The Brandeis Buchla 100 is still working and it is in a studio at the BEAMS ("Brandeis Electro-Acoustic Music Studio") where it is used by students under the direction of Eric Chasalow. I recently saw it on a visit in late April but didn't have time to play it.
Thanks for the posting!"

1Song1Week1Year - Week 26 - Cube
YouTube via DJDJSMusic | June 26, 2010 | 3:46
"Week 26 in my 1Song1Week1Year project to write one new song each week for the year 2010.
I don't don't know if this song is half way, because it is the end of the second quarter, or if last week was half way as it was week 25 of 50. But either way it feels like I am just starting out. And I am still discovering new stuff to sample and make music with. I know I still have a lot to learn."

1976 GODWIN GUITORGAN VINTAGE SYNTH GUITAR
Note: links to listings are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.
via this auction
"vintage 1976 Godwin Guitar Organ made by Sisme. Considered the absolute premier “Guitorgan,” this 13-knob/19-switch version is the more deluxe of the two manufactured in Italy for Godwin in the mid-1970’s. While those fortunate enough to have heard a working Godwin guitorgan respect it as the most authentic organ-emulating guitar (sounding nearly identical to a Hammond B3), it also offers beautiful sounds completely unique to such an incredibly advanced instrument. Essentially an electronic organ re-arranged and manipulated to fit within a guitar, normal Univox/Musiconics Guitorgan just don't compare. This beyond rare guitar organ is virtually inaccessible, and is rarely offered for sale anywhere. Other examples have sold for well over $6,000, so take advantage of this reasonable Buy it Now auction, and add this to your collection.
This particular example is in very excellent all original condition. It is in perfect working condition, and includes: the original expression pedal, an original instrument cable, all of the original paperwork (complete schematics and operations manual), and the original oversized case. There are no other known examples which include the original schematic, which is a valuable essential to understanding and maintaining the Godwin if necessary. Remarkably, the Godwin guitorgan is capable of functioning as an organ or traditional guitar independent of one another. It features a 5 pin connector output for the control pedal, and a normal ¼” output for the typical guitar output. With Italian-inspired cosmetic appointments, the detail to sonic quality was equally matched by the tuxedo black and silver sparkle faux sound holes. The control panel was designed to be both attractive and intuitive. Typical of Italian artistry, the design of this instrument incorporated both form and function.

The guitar is all original, and features: original Schaller tuning machines, the original “G” tailpiece, all original knobs, all original switches with corresponding colored tips, and all other miscellaneous chrome hardware. The guitar plays amazingly well. The neck profile is an open soft C-shape neck profile, with very comfortable action. The neck is perfectly straight, and all of the segmented frets are in excellent condition. With better playability than any guitar we currently have in stock, it is very easy to play super fast organ-inspired melodies. There are small chips near the bottom of the fingerboard, which appear to have been repaired."

Quasimidi Polymorph
Rare Vivace MIDI Auto Accompany MIDI Synthesizer
"When hooked up to a MIDI keyboard individual,(and stunning!), solo instrument voices can be played back. I haven't been able to figure out how the auto-accompany features work. There is a cartridge slot and its my guess that the unit needs one of these style cartridges for the auto features to work."

Roland Sh-101 Nova Mod
"Modifications are:
1) Filter input with volume attenuation knob (run your other synths through the classic Roland filter!! the filter overdrives like nobodies business and sounds really really swell)
2) Filter CV input (control the filter with your favorite analog synth or other CV gear!)
3) Filter FM CV input (you won't find this very often, it's a second CV input for filter control so you can get your FM on!)
4) PWM source selector (Change what type of PWM you have, basically gives you a very wide
5) LFO rate switch LOW/MED/ULTRA FAST (ultra fast lfo makes some really *&^%ed up sounds!)"
BitStream Pro MIDI Controller
via this auction
"This knobby Doepfer-like controller is one of the best controllers ever hit the market and is extremely rare. This model has much finer encoders than the newer version, 3X... Having 35 knobs, 8 sliders, and 8 push buttons, with 3 user programs and in total 144 assignable controllers, this gem gives you more than what you can wish for. It can be used with virtually any hardware or software synth responding to MIDI and all its encoders are programmable. Being rack mountable, makes this beauty even more practical." more info here
Yamaha SK-20
via this auction"Poly synth, String and organ section. One great feature is the Ensemble Chorus which gives the string section a very similar sound to an ARP Solina. It also has a particularly nice resonant filter that doesn't get 'weak' with higher resonance setting as so often happens on most synths.
> 3 synths in one!
> BPF (band pass filter) - really rare feature
> Fantastic Ensemble FX
> Excellent Rotary organ FX"

Notstandskomitee Münzviertel Strassenfest 2010 - CSound on Linux
Notstandskomitee Münzviertel Strassenfest 2010 from Malte Steiner on Vimeo.
"Notstandskomitee live at Münzviertel Strassenfest, 19.6.2010, Hamburg. It was windy, cold and wet, few people, monitors kept collapsing, in short: a typical Hamburg streetfest. I expected the worst, a new low in my career, but it was fun and good test of equipment.
Please note the small black netbook which ran the whole show, together with Archlinux and a realtime kernel. Csound replayed the loops from the studio from bigger machines - like Doepfer A100, VSynth, MPC, Machinedrum - , process them and provided synthesis for my solos. Right now I am booking some shows, perhaps Notstandskomitee comes to a place near you."
