Arping the 909 with the Monomachine

YouTube Uploaded by Catabolicdj on Oct 14, 2011

"Using the Monomachine's arpeggiator to get some unusual sounds out of a borrowed Roland TR 909. The Monomachine's arpeggiator is set to x1 which is the fastest setting. Mode is "Add" and the arp triggers on 1, 3, 4, and 6 of the 8 possible trigs. In this video (as compared to the other Mono/909 video I posted), the 909 is synced to the Mono."

Simmons SDS-1 EPROM Digital/Analog Drum Synth & Huge EPROM Library (60 EPROMs) SN 005758

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

According to the listing, this is the one featured in these videos.

"Includes 60 SDS Drum EPROMs, for use with Simmons SDS-1, SDS-7, SDS-9 drum synths.

Up for auction is a white vintage Simmons SDS-1 EPROM-based electronic drum pad in working condition, including 60 different Simmons EPROMs which are also compatible with Simmons SDS-7, and SDS-9 drum synths.

The EPROMs included with this auction are reproductions of original Simmons EPROM chips, almost all of the chips are original Simmons sounds, and is rare to see such an expansive library of Simmons EPROM chips being offered on eBay. I have posted recordings of all of the chips in this auction being performed by the SDS-1 in the link below.

The Simmons SDS-1 is a single voice drum synth that uses 8k or 16k EPROMs to play back 8-bit drum sounds and effects. The drum synth can be triggered by hitting the drum pad or via an external trigger input. There is a modulation section on the drum synth that allows you to set the pitch and pitch bend direction, then a separate runtime generator allows you to dial in a random pitch generator that can range from subtle to extreme. Please check out my link below to some MP3s I made with the SDS1 drum synth as well as YouTube videos (the SDS-1 in the YouTube video is the same one being auctioned here).

The Simmons SDS EPROM drum pad is confirmed 100% working, ZIF, LED, external trigger, output, and knobs are all functioning properly. All 60 drum sound EPROMs included with this auction have been tested/verified and are also confirmed working. Battery functionality has not been tested, as the battery cover is missing and is often missing on these vintage drum synths.

At Work - Plate 909

YouTube Uploaded by batonamusic on Jun 5, 2011
On the synths:
"The lead synth is from the Yamaha AN1X.

The bass line and other synths soft synths from native to Ableton Live.

The UC33 controls FX & synth parameters in Ableton Live on a Macbook Pro, where the 909 and other percussive sounds are arranged.

The sine wave present in the beginning over the high hats was made in Sound Forge with some pitch-bending and amplitude modulation.

There is also a Korg X-5 in there (spacier pads in the back + high pitched bells) which does not make a cameo. "

TR-909 + Monotron Delay = Elbows Out

YouTube Published on Jul 12, 2012 by siedgey

"Today has been a good day. Just have a listen to this and you'll see why. In this video the mighty TR-909 goes head to head with Korg's £34.99 Monotron Delay. Firstly, let me say this: go out and buy a Monotron Delay right now. Go on.

It's an amazing little box - it can make great little spacey sound effects etc if you use the ribbon pad, but its best feature by a mile is the delay. It really is an amazing sounding analog-style delay! It feeds back into itself like you would feed back into a tape delay and it has such a great tone that I have been using it as an aux send from my mixer rather alongside some much bigger, more expensive delays...

But then it goes a stage further, as it has an input into which you can plug anything. Hence the natural machine to plug in was the 909, and when you crank up the volume shit goes crazy.

Go and buy one immediately.

acidlab miami bassline tr-909

YouTube via pac209. "more shuffle here"

midi-din sync jam session

"tr727 is master, midi goes to miami, from there din to 909 from there midi to bassline from there din to 606, it all works with no glitch or delay in timing. I chose this "exotic" wiring on purpose to demo the whole "hook up some din sync" thing. Some live programming is hard to do with one hand sorry! at the end you can see the 909 and the miami both in shuffle mode, really great."

BOSS HAND CLAPPER HC-2

via this auction
"Made in Japan (1983)

Produces a hand clap sound that is adjustable with sens, dry and hall controls.
Produces sounds simular to legendary TR-808 & TR-909 Drum machines!

The BOSS Handclapper is not an effect pedal, per se. Its purpose is to produce handclap sounds. It does so when you hit that blue rubber pad with a stick, or with your hand, whichever is handier.

The circuit inside is IDENTICAL (save for the addition of a couple of external pots to adjust some sound parameters that are permanently set in the 808) to the handclap circuit in the legendary Roland TR-808 drum machine!

External input jack for triggering from other drum machines with trigger out.

The unit can runs off a normal Battery (9v) or with a mains adapter."

Boss Handclapper HC-2 MIDI mod

YouTube via accenter | March 05, 2007

Live Techno Series #7 [Electribe ER-1, MC-909, Virus TI, Waldorf Blofeld]

YouTube Uploaded by siedgey on Jul 28, 2011

"Thanks for watching! The time has come again to add to the ever increasing number of videos in my Live Techno Series collection. For those who don't know, this is all about producing techno using hardware.

This time around I have made a dark, loopy techno track. Setup-wise, my new Electribe ER-1 is the master clock, sending MIDI to the 909, which passes it on to the Virus. The Blofeld isn't using MIDI, it's just playing some sustained notes through the audio in on the ER-1 which is ring modulating them against a kick drum, producing a nice tweakable noise (you can hear it best at the end of the track).

The ER-1 is playing the kick drum, clap and a couple of hi hats as well, the Virus is providing the synth parts and the 909 is playing a few extra percussion parts.

As always, your comments are greatly appreciated. If you have any questions then let me know and I'll be happy to answer them!

Thanks again,

Simon"

Live Techno Series #3 - MC-909 & Virus - Simon Stokes

YouTube via siedgey

"Hi ho folks!

At last, it is time once again for another live techno video! I've bought myself a shiny new digital camera, and today I set up my old setup, keeping it all hardware for sound mangling. The MC-909 is sequencing everything, with parts 1-8 playing from the Virus TI2 and parts 9-16 playing off the 909 itself. All of that is then running into the Behringer Tweakalizer for some more knob twiddling fun, then into the Alesis 3630 compressor to be squashed. Finally, it is recorded in Ableton Live.

It's a bit rough around the edges - a combination of too many sounds to tweak / mute and too few hands to do it with...so you'll have to excuse the arrangement. All comments are warmly appreciated..

Things have been going well recently - I was Djing with Matthias Tanzmann at New Year in Glasgow, which was excellent; Carl Cox has become my number one fan(!!), dropping tracks from the Rekluse EP all over the place including on his radio show twice; and I am in the process of signing up a load more tracks with some rather awesome labels...watch this space!

Thanks for all the support, it means a whole lot to me. For any bookings, please get in touch with me through the links below.

Cheers!

Akai MFC42 Analogue Filter Demo

YouTube Uploaded by snolan1990 on Jun 4, 2011

"This is a brief overview of the features and functionality of the Akai MFC42 Analogue Filter Module. For this demo I have used a simple disco loop backed by some TR-909 drums and I have tried to cover all the functions of the unit while keeping the video as brief as possible. As I am sure you will have gathered by the end of this video the MFC42 has almost endless configuration possibilities to produce a huge array of filtering effects and I have only touched upon these possibilities in this video.

For those interested the Loop comes from the Akai S900 seen just below the MFC42, the drums are from a Roland TR-909 (with the exception of the hand clap which is from the TR-707 (because my 909 clap needs repairing)). Everything is sequenced with the Akai ASQ10 and the whole mix is liberally compressed by an Alesis 3630 for that '99 Montmartre sound."
