FM Synth Programming with Digitone Livestream Tutorial & Q+A

Published on Apr 14, 2020 Perfect Circuit

"We will be going over FM synthesis programming concepts that apply to all FM synths and applying them specifically to the Elektron Digitone. Watch if you are curious about how FM works and how to program FM synthesizer sounds, or if you have a Digitone and want to learn more about how its synthesis works. The Digitone also has some unique features that most FM synthesizers don't have for shaping sounds. Frequency modulation synthesis or FM often feels complicated but if looked at from the right perspective it can be more easily understood."

Introducing the e25 Remix Edition // Limited run of Digitakt, Digitone, & Syntakt

video upload by Elektron

"Introducing a ripple of both past and present. The e25 Remix Edition is a limited run of silver-faced Digitakt, Digitone, and Syntakt machines; a time hack to disorientate, reorientate, and deliver you to bliss. Inspired by yesteryear, these boxes are hell-bent on pulling your sounds through the veil of possibility and into reality. In recognition of a quarter century of Elektron existence, and to celebrate everyone we’ve met along the way, we have included a number of special additions to accompany this extra-special edition."

via Elektron

Introducing a time hack to disorientate, reorientate, and deliver you to bliss. In recognition of a quarter century of existence, we have dreamt up the e25 Remix Edition: a limited run of silver-faced units, spread across Digitakt, Digitone, and Syntakt. Inspired by yesteryear, and hell-bent on pulling your sounds through the veil of possibility and into reality.

The e25 Remix Editions don't just come with special versions of already unique music-making machines. We have included a number of other special additions to accompany your extra-special edition.

The instruments themselves are hand-built in stainless steel, individually numbered and bearing laser-etched logos. The box too is unique in its design and build, containing e25 poster versions, and a multiple decade-covering/greatest hits sticker sheet. And the e-shaped cherry on top is a special Remix Edition cassette tape featuring an hour of original and eclectic music from the Elektron Team.

Released in 2017, Digitakt splashed down as a compact sampling drum machine capable of summoning monstrous beats or delicately layered sample-scapes, breaking your creative boundaries wide open. Since then, we have added a succession of new and exciting features to its repertoire, making it even more super-powered year after year.

Digitone followed on the heels of its sibling in 2018, continuing the Digi line with its innovative and accessible take on FM synthesis, and as a prime source of new sounds and timbres. With it, you can create rich and enchanting tones with ease, diving from jagged chaos to mellow sonic suppleness, seemingly emanating from a parallel universe. Regular creativity and performance-focused feature additions have continued Digitone's sonic trajectory.

Coming in 2022, Syntakt may be the youngest of the three but it’s jam-packed with possibilities and loaded with powerful sound-exploring tools. Analog and Digital synthesis. Drum and melody. They're here in full fusion. Syntakt’s various percussive and melodic machines make for an adventurous playground, and even though it’s only been out a little over a year, more machines have already arrived. And more will follow.

All instruments have been handcrafted in stainless steel here in Sverige. The faceplates have been brushed to give them their own unique finish, with no two units identical in appearance, while the logo and limited edition number on the front panel are laser-etched. Each box is adorned with silver foil highlights, created with vintage machinery in the very capable hands of local printers.

We also have a specially produced T-shirt to clothe yourselves in e25 Remix Edition goodness. It’s limited numbers for a limited edition. And available exclusively from our webshop."

Strymon Volante vs Elektron Digitone

Published on Jun 12, 2019 ollilaboratories

"If you like my stuff please support me on http://music.ollilab.com/ and https://www.patreon.com/theBURG

#Digitone #StrymonVolante #StrymonBluesky

Ever since the digitone keys was released I have been a extremely intrigued by using the digitone as a normal synth not using the elektron style sequencing.. adding some Strymon love to the mix while giving this a shot felt like the right thing to do. :) Reface CP is just acting as a MIDI keyboard.

Gear used: Elektron Digitone (no internal FX) / Reface CP MIDI keyboard
Strymon Volante, Drum style delay + Strymon Blue Sky Long Room Shimmer.

All is recorded straight to the Zoom H5.

Sequence & Synth: Digitone!

Published on Jul 28, 2018 junklight

"I've been going through a period of looking at my music practice and the equipment I have - making sure I'm using it all (or selling it).

I knew I wanted to keep the digitone - I've been an FM enthusiast since I had a DX7 back in the day. I also knew I neglected it a bit and used it for 'bit parts' rather than using it in earnest.

I set myself the task of making a track ONLY using the digitone so I got to know it a bit better and this is the result. Made entirely from scratch - no presets or anything. Played in a single take - no overdubs, no external effects (there is a little compression , EQ etc) Such a powerful machine.

TBH I found using just the digitone a little bit of a limit - there would be some samples or other odd noises in there from something else given half a chance but I like the fact I can make all the crusty distorted kind of sounds I love on it.

Given I even started digging into aftertouch on patches I reckon job done too - going to be much faster to reach for the digitone in future when I need a synth line.

(this is one time I would have loved to have over bridge mind you - bringing out the tracks separately and EQ'ing them individually would have helped even with my terrible mixing skills)"

Elektron Digitone and Octatrack Performance

video upload by Patchwerks Seattle

"In this video Matthew Piecora (aka EZBOT) tells us why he chooses the Digitone for writing music followed by a performance paired with the Octatrack MK2.

From Elektron: 'Digitone represents our vision of how FM synthesis can be revitalized and modernized. Here’s how: combine FM sound generation with a classic subtractive synthesis signal flow. From jagged chaos to mellow soundscapes in less than a second. Digitone is one unique box.

Choose from multiple FM algorithms featuring carefully selected parameters. Shape the tones with powerful filters. Arrange them with the intuitive Elektron sequencer. Round off with the stellar effects. Now enjoy the most spectacular sounds, seemingly emanating from some parallel universe.'

Machinedrum X Digitone | Sci Fi Beats

video upload by VoltageCtrlRtv

"Back in the studio working on a few sonic sketches for a sci fi animated action sequence, i figured I would share with yall."

Machinedrum X Digitone Memories Are Portals

video upload by VoltageCtrlRtv

"Back to the sonic experiments with the Machinedrum and Digitone today.

The Machinedrum is my demolition crew. I crank the compressor, sculpting earth-shaking kicks and snare cracks that sting. Decay knobs become my paintbrush, leaving trails of haunting ghost notes. It's a percussive warzone, raw samples transformed into heavy artillery. Then I switch gears, the Digitone becoming my sonic architect. I twist its metallic heart, coaxing out FM tones that shimmer and bite. Arpeggios become rhythmic companions, each note a brick building a driving bassline. Together, they're a brutal fusion... the Machinedrum's raw power intertwined with the Digitone's laser-sharp melodies. It's a sonic assault, a dance between chaos and precision.

I included a .wav file from the Machinedrum for the

/ voltagectrlr subscribers to sample.
I'm working on a new sound pack with Machinedrum one shots and loops that will be available soon. http://audibleobjects.com"

[DIGITONE] fMbruary #02 Energy

Published on Feb 6, 2019 CO5MA

"#digitone #fMbruary #fMbruary2019

'Energy' is inspired by the amazing story and characters from Nier: Automata. More than "just" a video game: a strong experience. Highly recommended!

All my fmbruary videos are made using my own custom presets for the Digitone that are available here as a complete pack: https://gum.co/CO5MO5 or as individual sound pack (Fractal Pads, Minimal Arps, Freaking Percs, Moving Vektors... more to come)

February = fMbruary! Throughout the month of February, I'll release videos mainly using FM synthesis. Just 1 pattern! Use the hashtag #fmbruary too and let's play with your Digitone or any FM synth!

Why FM synthesis? Because that's my favourite synthesis so far. And because it's fMbruary!

In the beginning you hear the sound of the MEGAfm, followed by some sounds of the Digitone.

Secret Friend by ylva (elektron digitone drum pattern generator)

video by ylva trax

"get 'Secret Friend' here: https://ylvatrax.bandcamp.com/album/l...

During my Eternal quest to turn the digitone to the perfect drum machine i have created 'Secret Friend' which is a max for live drum pattern / beat generator.

drop the midi device on a midi track, select the sequence type you wanna generate, set the midi note, length, scale, etc, hit 'Generate Pattern' and send it to the digitone (set the appropriate out channel), or any other elektron box / midi capable drum synth.

'Fills' will add flam and 'FX' will sequence the send amount of the digitone FX rhythmically. if you have more than one instance loaded you can hit 'Generate Rhythm' to globally generate across all instances."

Elektron Digitone SINGLE TRACK JAM & Tutorial

Published on Mar 7, 2018 0F.digital

"Maximising one track on the Digitone.

I had an idea to try maxing out a track with sound locks and micro timing, in response to some comments about the Digitone's 4-track limit being too.. limiting. Turns out that's not really the case, and you can actually do a lot even with just one track!

Note: I used the Reface DX just as a MIDI controller in this video; no audio is being generated by it."

Hydra ♒ (ASM Hydrasynth Explorer // Elektron Digitone // Dreadbox Nymphes + Julianna // Roland TR6S)

video upload by 2-Minute Warning

"There are not enough synths/sequencers offering the chord memory function (i.e. memorizing chords and then playing them back with 1 note only) within a scale! As the ASM - Hydrasynth benefits from this feature, I used it to create this track 😉

I then added some FM sequences played by the Elektron - Digitone, a fat analog bass played by the Dreadbox - Nymphes (through the Julianna Chorus/Vibrato pedal) and finally drums/FX by the Roland TR-6S (the kick sound is not a sample, but uses the ACB engine to emulate the 909's kick!)

* Hardware used *
- PADS: Asm - Hydrasynth Explorer
- BELLS, CHIMES: Elektron - Digitone
- BASS: Dreadbox - Nymphes + Walrus Audio - Julianna + The Pill Pedal (triggered byt the TR6S' headphones output)
- DRUMS, FX: Roland - TR-6S
Everything was sequenced by my DAW, except for the DRUMS & FX which were sequenced by the TR6S' internal sequencer & I also used the Digitone's sequencer to do some parameter-lock."

Dimension 🎲 (Elektron Digitone + Particle + Deco // Korg Drumlogue // Sequential Take 5)

video upload by 2-Minute Warning

"This is the last video closing the trilogy featuring the Take 5 and Digitone! [previous videos below this one via this link]

The track begins with a sequence played by the Digitone (through the Particle granular delay which is being blended in from time to time on the intro + Deco tape saturation & doubletracker pedal effect).

Then the analog tracks of the Drumlogue are being unmuted, along with the BASS & LEAD which are being played live on the Take 5.

As often, I'm using only one pattern on the Digitone and one on the Drumlogue (but used a lot of automation, probability etc. to add variations)

Further on I switch to the LOOP mode on the Drumlogue in order to add some real time breaks."
