San Francisco, CA—September 7, 2021—Sequential today announced two major enhancements for their acclaimed Prophet-5 and Prophet-10 Rev 4 synthesizers. The first is a new OS that adds bi-timbral, stack and split capability to the Prophet-10. The second is an easy-to-install voice expansion card for the Prophet-5 that increases its polyphony to 10 voices, enabling it to benefit from the new OS.

With a ten-voice instrument and the new OS, players can stack two different programs together for more powerful, complex sounds. Each program is allocated 5 voices of polyphony, allowing 5-note bi-timbral operation. Alternatively, players can split the keyboard into two separate performance zones, each with a different program. This allows forbi-timbral performance of bass and leads, or bass and pads, for example.

To use the new stack and split feature, Prophet-10/expanded Prophet-5 owners will need to upgrade to version 2.0 of the operating system. The OS upgrade is provided free of charge to Prophet owners and is available on Sequential’s website. The Prophet-5 voice expansion card is available directly from Sequential and includes instructions for installation.

“We’re excited to bring stack and split capability to 10-voice Prophets,” said Sequential founder Dave Smith. “It gives even more musical versatility to an already awesome-sounding instrument. Musicians are going to love the sound design possibilities of bi-timbral stacks. And players will be able to make good use of splits in live performance.”

Sequential CEO David Gibbons had this to say about the enhancements: “There’s nothing more satisfying than making a legendary instrument even more powerful than its original incarnation. Turning the Prophet-10 or an expanded Prophet-5 into a bi-timbral synth takes it to new places as an expressive instrument. That’s always been Sequential’s first priority: Putting great-sounding, expressive musical tools into the hands of musicians.”

The Prophet-5 and Prophet-10 Rev 4 reintroduced the music world to Sequential’s most famous and beloved instrument: the Prophet-5. The instruments revisit a landmark era in American analog synthesizer design and are an authentic and authoritative return to roots for the company.

Faithful to the original, the instruments feature five voices with two multi-waveform analog oscillators, resonant analog low-pass filters and amplifiers, and a filter and amplifier envelope per voice. Modulation is provided by a multi-waveshape LFO and Poly Mod, a ground-breaking modulation scheme for its time that allowed the filter envelope and oscillator B to be routed to a variety of destinations including filter cutoff frequency, oscillator A frequency, and oscillator A pulse width.

The Prophet-5 voice expansion card has a US MAP of $899 and is available directly from the Sequential. It is compatible with both keyboard and desktop models of the Prophet-5.

With the additional features, modulation, and array of quite superb digital effects that the Arturia OB-Xa has to offer, this instrument has become a go-to synth in my digital arsenal. Similar to Sequential's new "vintage knob," the Arturia OB-Xa has controls under the hood to give variation to each voice, including pitch, filter envelope, filter cutoff, and more.

"In this video, we unbox and explore the new 2021 special edition reissue of the famed Oberheim Two Voice Pro. You can count on two hands how many of these Two Voice Pro Special Editions have been manufactured by the master and legend, Tom Oberheim. I feel extremely lucky and grateful to have one of these gorgeous synthesizers.

Tom Oberheim's favorite synth from the original Oberheim era is the Two Voice (1975). Although the last TVS-Pro was manufactured in 2018, interest in this synth has continued. By popular demand, in May of 2021 Tom brought back the TVS-Pro as a Special Edition, with each unit now having the original 'Oberheim' logo badge, plus Tom Oberheim's personal signature. Despite there being no formal announcement, hundreds of musicians inquired on this website as to how they could purchase one. The demand was much higher than the small number of units that Tom was able to build. In just one day all the built units were spoken for, which unfortunately left many people disappointed. Tom is exploring if more parts can be secured and production started again, but it is not yet known if that will be possible.

San Francisco, CA—July 9, 2021—Sequential today announced a major enhancement to their acclaimed Pro 3 multi-filter mono synth — patch morphing. Users can now morph between two different sounds using one of the synthesizer’s many real-time controllers such as its mod wheel, touch slider, or key pressure. This provides many new possibilities for real-time expression and dramatic timbral variation.

To use the new feature, users will need to upgrade to version 1.2 of the Pro 3 operating system, which is currently available in pre-release or “Beta” format on the Sequential User Forum. The OS upgrade is provided free of charge to Pro 3 owners.

“The Pro 3 is already the deepest, most versatile mono synth we’ve ever designed — and we keep making it even more awesome,” said Sequential founder Dave Smith: “Now patch morphing takes live performance to a whole other planet. The sonic territory that lives between two different patches is pretty vast, and with real time control of that, users will get to places they’ve never heard before.”

A hybrid instrument, the Pro 3 features three classic analog filters (Prophet-6, OB-6, and ladder) and three oscillators (two VCOs and one wavetable oscillator) along with a 16-track sequencer, and the ability to connect with modular synths through its four control voltage ins/outs. The feature set is rounded out with a multimode arpeggiator, three LFOs, four loopable ADSR+delay envelopes, dual digital effects (delays, reverbs, and various time-based effects), tuned feedback, analog distortion, and extensive modulation possibilities. The synth is also capable of 3-voice paraphonic operation.

Sequential is offering two versions of the Pro 3, the standard edition, and the Pro 3 SE, a special edition that puts the same synthesis power into a collector-worthy design with a tilt-up control panel and premium-grade walnut trim.

The Pro 3 standard edition has a US MAP of $1,599.

The Pro 3 SE has a US MAP of $2,099.

They had me design some of the factory presets for the synth and in this video, I constructed a song using only the Model 84 synthesizer (except for the drum samples). The Prophet Rev 2 has become one of my favorite synths of all time, due to its incredible modulation capabilities and pure sound. Although the Rev 2 sometimes gets overshadowed by its more expensive siblings such as the Prophet 6, OB-6, and Prophet 5/10, I have found that with a little time and careful programming, the Rev 2 stands up to the others. In many situations, it actually outshines them. Many thanks to Jason Cooper over at www.voicecomponentmodeling.com for providing the inspiration to create even more compelling patches for this instrument.
