Duo Mono 👥 (Make Noise 0-Coast + H9 // Moog DFAM + Multicomp // Arturia Keystep Pro)

video upload by 2-Minute Warning

"Going quite minimalist again with this jam featuring only 2 semi-modular analog mono synth (0-Coast & DFAM) and 2 effects (Eventide H9 & EBS Multicomp).

The Arturia Keystep Pro (KSP) was used to sequence both instruments (although I also used the DFAM's 8-step sequencer too 😄). I used 3 tracks on the KSP:
* Track1 - sending gates to sync the 0-Coast clock (for its Sample & Hold LFO) and to the DFAM
* Track 2 - sending CV to the DFAM to transpose its 8-step sequence (with some CV being sent with a 20% probability)
* Track 4 - sending CV & Gate to the 0-Coast to play the main riff (on 2 patterns).

So no MIDI involved for this time, only CV/gate sent between the Keystep Pro, 0-Coast and DFAM 😉

* Hardware used *
- SEQUENCE : Make Noise 0-Coast + Eventide H9 (Tape Delay)
- DRUMS/BASS: Moog DFAM +Erica EBS Multicomp
- Sequencer: Arturia Keystep Pro (+ DFAM's integrated 8-step sequencer)"

Going Wireless with the CME WIDI Thru6 BT and WIDI Master

https://www.cme-pro.com

Pictured here is a mini setup I have sitting to my left pretty much at all times. As you can imagine I spend quite a bit of time running this site. When I'm too tired and/or can't get into the studio, I'll often fiddle with this setup. I swap out synths depending on what I'm in the mood for. Currently you'll see a Sequential OB-6 desktop, Audiothingies Micromonsta, Strymon Big Sky, and Elektron Digitakt all running through a Rolls line mixer which runs out to an iConnectAudio4 MIDI and audio interface which I currently only use for capturing audio on the laptop. Normally I have my laptop sitting where the Keystep, and further below, the MicroKorg are. The Keystep is my main controller, but I brought up the MicroKorg to test it out with the CME Widi Master for complete wireless control. I have the Keystep and/or MicroKorg leaning up on the side of my makeshift table and I just bring them up on my lap when I want to use them. One thing I hate dealing with is plugging in the MIDI and power cables. Yes I am that lazy, especially after a long bout of posting. You might ask why not leave them plugged in. Well, the cables kind of get in the way of a small storage box I have under the setup. That said, I've been eyeing CME's wireless adapters for some time. When they announced the WIDI Thru6 BT, I thought I'd reach out to them for a review unit as I am a little tight on expendable funds at the moment. Fortunately they agreed to send me the WIDI Thru6 BT and a WIDI Master. You can see the Widi Master plugged into the back of the Keystep and the MicroKorg below. You can see the WIDI Thru6 BT sitting to the side of the OB-6, but in use I just have it resting on the floor to my right and behind me. I was curious if the wireless connection would work with the WIDI Master both pointing directly away from the Thru6 and having my armchair in between. I'm happy to report there were no problems at all. Nada. It just works. I was also curious if I'd have to pair the two every time I powered things on, or after a period of no use. I'm happy to report I didn't have to. I fired them up days later and they just worked. I can now just flip a switch to turn everything on and I'm good to go.

There is one quirky thing I do want to mention. When you first set up the WIDI Thru6 BT and CME Widi Master you might have to update the firmware on each depending on when they left the factory and when the latest firmware update was released. In my case I did have to update both. The quirky thing is after you update either, you have to go into your Bluetooth settings (iPhone Settings for me), click on the WIDI device in the list and select "forget the device", then restart Bluetooth altogether and re-add the device. Basically after the firmware update it's as if the device is seen as a new separate device in Bluetooth settings but will not show up as long as the previous device is still on the list. So, firmware update = new device. If you try to connect the original device it will fail. You can find addtional setup and configuration details on their website here.

That said, once it's all setup and good to go, it's a great little system. The connection is stable and I do not notice any latency at all. I tried maxing out the built-in sequencer and ARP of the Keystep to see if I could overload the connection and it was rock solid.

Anything that can reduce cabling and improve ease of use, especially after a long day of work, is a plus in my book.

You can find additional details on the CME WIDI Thru6 BT, WIDI Master, and additional CME devices on their website at https://www.cme-pro.com.

PS. Apologies for the quality of the pics. The lighting isn't the greatest but that's how I like it. :)

Pure Mat ❤️ (Moog Matriarch Dark // Arturia Keystep Pro) live jam, analog synth, raw sound

video upload by 2-Minute Warning

"Pure Matriarch raw sound: that was the main idea behind this jam!
I used the Arturia Keystep Pro to play the Matriarch mainly for 2 reasons: the chord memory and scale features of the KSP and the easiness to visualize the notes being played by the Keystep's ARP 😃

What's happening?
1- The jam starts with only one oscillator playing on the Matriarch. I then gradually open up the filter and mix in the 3 other oscillators.
2- At the end I switch on the SYNC on the Matriarch and we can clearly hear the sharp and metallic sound, very characteristic of synced oscillators 🤘
3-The lovely analog stereo delay is playing an important role here in the sound as it is adding fluctuations (its time and feedback being respectively modulated by its 2 LFOs) and stereo width.
4-Note that I used on the Matriarch the SPLIT VCA mode where the Filter Envelope Generator signal controls the level of VCA 1 (Left output), and the Amplitude Envelope Generator signal controls the level of VCA 2 (Right output).

* Hardware used *

- Moog Matriarch Dark
- Arturia Keystep Pro"

Roland JX-08 Synth Demo | 3 Vignettes in 3 Minutes

video upload by gstormelectro

"Audio + Video by G-Storm Electro c. 2022

Ah the Roland JX-08 Boutique Synth module.
Sold my JX-8P some time ago and was pining for some of that vibe.
The JX-08 does very well, and a fraction of the studio space :D
Making use of the on-board sequencer and/or Keystep Pro.
Patches are derivations of factory presets.
Recorded direct, only the onboard effects are used.
No other mastering or effects have been added."

Diatonic 〽️ (Waldorf M 1.08 // MAM Adx1 // Arturia Keystep Pro)

video upload by 2-Minute Warning

"The Waldorf M just got a very nice update (v1.08) and it was a good reason to celebrate with a new video of the M in multi-mode, sequenced by the Arturia Keystep Pro.
My good old buddy the Music And More (MAM) ADX1 5-voice analog drum machine was also taken out for this special occasion to take care of the beat!
Recorded in one shot.

The 8-voices of the M can be limiting when the synth is used in the multi-timbral mode (4 parts), but hey, the creation of this channel was based on the concept of making music in a constrained environment, so it was a nice challenge again 😅

* Hardware used *

- ALL SYNTH parts : Waldorf M
- Output 1: PLUCK riff + Eventide H9 (Diatonic)
- Output 2: PADS + Darkglass Microtubes X (Distortion) + Walrus Audio Julianna (Chorus, Vibrato) + Strymon Bigsky (Reverb) + Pill Pedal (Ducking, triggered by the Keystep Pro kick's gate output)
- Output 3: CHIMES melody + Red Panda Particle 2 (Granular delay) + Death By Audio Rooms (Reverb)

- DRUMS : Music And More ADX1

- All synth & drum parts sequenced by the Arturia Keystep Pro"

Performance: 'Mini Mod' - a 2016 track performed in real-time (analogue melodic eurorack modular)

video upload by AJH Synth Official

"A short real-time performance of a track I originally recorded in 2016, and was my first ever work with the AJH Synth Mini Mod system. The original version was overdubbed, layering a full 3-VCO & Ladder filter system 3 times to provide all of the synth voices. Here it is performed 'live' with all voices occurring simultaneously, but voiced slightly differently - for example, in the original I used just the standard Minimoog style voice configuration to achieve a vocal/choir-like sound, whereas here I used the much more effective combination of the Wave Swarm and Fixed Filter Bank 914, and even the Entropic Doom to provide an additional 'voice' to the all-analogue Mini-choir! No samples were used in this recording.

I also use the SEM--based Gemini 2412 VCF to process a drone sound, with both of it's filters used in Dual mode. It's audio signal is just 1 VCO and some white noise mixed in the Ring SM, which also provides to sub-octaves using it's built-in sub bass generators.

The Arturia Keystep Pro was used as the sequencer - the mod controller to affect the filter frequency of the Gemini, 3 sequencer tracks to control the pitch of the choir oscillators independently, as a kind of faux polyphonic workaround, and finally the fourth track to control the main 3-VCO melodic voice/sequence.

The original track can be found here: https://tomorrowthecure.bandcamp.com/..."

Modeling (Clavia Nord Drum 3P - Modeling Percussion Synth // Arturia Keystep Pro Sequencer)

video upload by 2-Minute Warning

"I wanted to dive a little deeper in the synth engine of the Nord Drum 3P drum pad! So I used 4 of its 6 tracks (sequenced by the KeystepPro) to play monophonic synth parts and the last 2 tracks, to play live some drum sounds (kick and snare).

I was quite impressed by the versatility of the Nord Drum and how much it can be an expressive instrument! Hope I'll become a good drummer one day 😅

* Hardware used *
- Clavia Nord Drum 3P : all sounds
- Arturia Keystep Pro : sequencing 4 of the 6 tracks of the Nord Drum 3P"

Dancin9 💃 (Perfourmer + H9 + Julianna // Streichfett // TR6S + KP3+ + Analog Heat // Keystep Pro)

video upload by 2-Minute Warning

"All the sequences/patterns/drums were recorded live in one shot. The main sequencer is the Arturia Keystep Pro (its 4 tracks were used to sequence the Vermona Perfourmer and Waldorf Streichfett).

As for the drums, they were recorded on the Roland TR-6S, where I used some of the latest cool features added on the latest update (v1.50), as the new reverb (HA-DOU) and delay (PITCH SHIFTER) and on its master effect, the new gripping VINYL SIMULATOR (I love the compressor in it which really adds some nice punch 👊🤩).
I mainly used the Analog Circuit Behavior sounds for the drums.

* Hardware used *
- Vermona Perfourmer MKII :
* Voice 1 + Julianna : Drone
* Voice 2 : Bass
* Voice 3+4 + Eventide H9 (Delay) : Pluck

- Waldorf Streichfett + Pill Pedal (triggered by the drums) : Strings + Pluck

- Roland TR-6S + Korg Kaoss Pad KP3+ + Elektron Analog Drive : Drums + Riser"

"In proper fully working order all around. Fat rich wild & crazy sounds abound for endless exploration and creative real time variations. Basically an odyssey in module format, sounds way fatter and richer than any korg or behr clone. CV ins+outs etc. Was used with kenton pro solo midi to cv and/or arturia keystep to great effect. Has typical wear/marks being 45yrs old. Bigger & heavier than an odyssey...all solid steel case, no plastic or aluminum like ody's."

Performance of The Week: 'Vangelis'-inspired Melodic Eurorack Jam w/ Arturia Keystep Pro

video upload by AJH Synth Official

"A melodic modular synth performance loosely inspired by the late composer Vangelis, who sadly passed away this year (2022), particularly his unforgettable music for the 1983 movie 'Blade Runner'. This is a kind of homage to someone whose work has doubtlessly coloured the music of many musicians who came after him. The instrument used consists of a range of AJH Synth modules to create rudimentary analog percussion, choir' like pad, choppy monophonic pattern, and Blade Runner-is lead sounds, all of which are entirely analogue.

Modules used:
Percussion - Entropic Doom, Multi Burst Envelopes, Discrete Cascaded VCA
Choir Pad - Glide + Noise (a little glide added), Precision Voltages (for choosing note intervals whilst composing) Vintage Transistor Core VCO (x2, sawtooths), Wave Swarm, Fixed Filter Bank 914, Lunar Module (as noise source), Next Phase, Dual LFO + VCA (for panning FFB), Muting Mixer & VCA
Sequence - Vintage Transistor Core VCO (x1), Ring SM (adding 1 sub-octave, Sonic XV filter, Dual RVG (modulating filter), Contour Generators, Discrete Cascaded VCA
Lead - Full MiniMod voice (Glide/VCO x3/Ladder Filter/Contours/VCA), Dual LFO + VCA (pitch vibrato), DH-ADSR (providing envelope for vibrato level)
Sequencer used is the Arturia Keystep Pro"
