New KORG Collection for Mac/Win & a Notice Regarding KORG USER NET

KORG Collection for Mac/Win | SOFTWARE INSTRUMENTS Published on Dec 21, 2017 Korg

KORG has announced an update to the KORG Legacy Collection. The update is free for current Legacy Collection owners. If you are on KORG USER NET be sure to see the note on the upcoming server migration including the partial termination of service of KORG USER NET further below.

"The many great sounds that marked an era. A synthesizer collection completely reconstructed in software.

Released in 2004, the KORG Legacy Collection was a pioneer of software synthesizers. Featuring a sound produced by authentic simulation of the analog and digital circuits of the legendary KORG synthesizers, the Legacy Collection has remained a best seller to this day.

Now, we are proud to announce the release of the updated KORG Collection featuring the addition of the ARP ODYSSEY. You can pursue in software the extreme feeling and sounds of this unique analog hardware synth, the ARP ODYSSEY re-issued by KORG. The updated Collection is equipped with new features especially suited to software, such as polyphonic compatibility and a rich, high-quality effects section.

Some features widely requested by users will be added to the KORG Collection in future updates. We plan to support AAX format and refine the user interface on a large-scale among other improvements but until then we hope you love all the new features so far and enjoy making music with the KORG Collection of synthesizers offered by KORG.

Faithfully Reconstructed Authentic Sound

With Korg’s original Component Modeling Technology (CMT), the KORG Legacy Collection doesn’t just simulate the output sound as is the case with typical modeling. Rather it digitizes the components used in the original hardware synthesizers and uses this reconstruction of the hardware circuits to emulate all the nuances of the original instruments. The new software addition to this release, the ARP ODYSSEY, was based on the ARP Odyssey introduced by Korg in 2015 with the advisory assistance of ARP Instruments’ co-founder in the 1970s and Odyssey designer, David Friend. Now you too can experience the authentic sound of the ARP ODYSSEY, part of the updated KORG Collection.

New Features Unique to Software

KORG Collection has undergone a variety of improvements necessary for today’s music production. For example, we have made the MS-20 polyphonic, equipped Polysix with external modulation settings and equipped Mono/Poly with virtual patch functionality, which allows for multi-colored sound production. In addition, we have equipped ARP ODYSSEY with features such as filters from each of the three original Odysseys produced between 1972 and 1981, and added important features such drive circuitry to boost the VCA, voice mode which allows for chord playing, a programmable arpeggiator, and high-quality effects. This is a new and exciting high-performance synthesizer!

Get the sound you aspire to with plug-ins

KORG Collection is not just standalone software. As a plug-in* compatible with AU, VST, each title can be used in the various production environments found in Mac / Windows. Add flair to your music composition with a variety of timeless, legendary sounds.

* Only supports 64bit plug-ins.

For Current Users of KORG Legacy Collection: Announcement of
Server Migration Accompanying Partial Termination of Service

We will soon be migrating our server to KORG ID and KORG Shop along with the partial termination of service of KORG USER NET. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience to KORG Legacy Collection users. We request that you follow the instructions on the page below to complete the migration procedures. Using the coupon code which will be issued, you will be able to switch from the KORG Legacy Collection series to KORG Collection free of charge."

King Korg "Stab King" 80's Synthesizer Riff - The new King Korg. This is the first patch I have checked out so I immediately made this video. So far so good, but I think I can improve this Jump sound :)

King Korg "1984" 80's Riffs part 2 - This is the 2nd patch on the new King Korg synthesizer called 1984. In this video I am tweaking the effects including the chorus and delay section. I also add the tube amp during the video. So far, I am very pleased with the layout of the effects section. It is really nice to be able to immediately dial in the effect that you need without having to scroll through page after page! Way to go Korg!

King Korg "French Toast" factory patch #4 - Here is a demo of patch #4 "French Toast" on the new King Korg. I find this a very usable sound for my style of music. In this video I start with the factory preset and then tweak the effects. Very cool sound!

Still only seeing imports from Japan.

According to the following via KORG, it was released in Japan in May of 2013 and was to be released globally in the Summer of 2013.

"DETUNE Ltd. (Located at Shinjuku-ku Tokyo, Japan/ C.E.O – Nobuyoshi Sano) and KORG Inc. (Located at Inagi-City, Tokyo, Japan/ President - Seiki Kato) are pleased to announce the release of the jointly developed musical instrument software for Nintendo 3DS Downloads: "KORG M01D".

The KORG M01D is a music workstation based on the KORG M1 the world’s first widely known music workstation. The M1 was released in 1988 by KORG Inc., one of the most famous and leading electronic musical instrument companies. The KORG M01D reproduces the M1’s unforgettable digital sounds of the 80s such as the “M1 piano”, still heard on many songs today.

With 24 voice-polyphony, over 300 sounds and an easy to operate sequencer, the KORG M01D helps you play and create your music at any place, and at any time, in a palm-size package!

Furthermore, the KORG M01D maximizes the range of music making possibilities with the excellent functionality of the Nintendo 3DS dual screens and performs sensuous note input with the sound control mode of the touch screen. This brings the “fun” experience beyond the music workstation, for everyone from beginners to professionals.

The song data and MIDI data can be saved to an SD card so the KORG M01D can be used as a sketchpad. You can preserve all of your musical ideas which can be later converted to your DAW system for more serious music production. In addition, anyone can exchange song data using Nintendo 3DS Wi-Fi via the Internet.

Sold in Japan since August 2010 as a package, the KORG M01D has been highly acclaimed by creators and performers who love gadget musical instruments. Now with this download version, the KORG M01D is available worldwide.

The best sounds, available to everyone. Announcing a new high-quality mobile sound module app for iPad!

Maintaining its position at the forefront of mobile music apps, KORG now offers you a new style of performance and production with Korg Module for iPad. Ideal for performance and music production, KORG Module is a high-quality sound module app for iPad that contains a sound library over 1 GB. If you have an external MIDI keyboard and an iPad, you can play studio-quality keyboard and grand piano sounds anywhere. You can also use the sounds of KORG Module for the KORG Gadget music production app.

*** Five dedicated sound engines containing powerful tone ***
KORG Module has five dedicated sound engines, providing a number of high-quality sounds that can be played back on your iPad using the "NATIVE ENGINE”. These engines feature technology that was developed for KORG's historic line of workstations and synthesizers including: Acoustic Piano, Electric Piano, Clav, Organ, and Multi. Each display has carefully selected parameters, making it convenient and easy to adjust the sounds.

*** Welcome to a new mobile world, where your iPad and a MIDI keyboard is all you need for a complete setup ***
Just connect an external MIDI keyboard to your iPad and launch the app to transform your iPad into a high-quality sound module. It's easy to set up and start playing immediately, whether you're in your room, a practice studio, or performing live. KORG Module adopts an open hardware philosophy that allows connection to any MIDI keyboard. In addition to using a KORG MIDI keyboard such as the taktile, microKEY (25-key), or nanoKEY2, you can also use other manufacturer's MIDI keyboards that can be connected to an iPad.

*** Mobile music production in tandem with KORG Gadget ***
You can also use the high-quality KORG Module sounds inside KORG Gadget, the mobile music production app. If you have KORG Module and KORG Gadget, the five tools Salzburg, Montreal, Alexandria, Firenze, and Glasgow are added inside, allowing access the same way as KORG Gadget. These five powerful gadgets will add even more variety to your music productions, raising your music to the next level. Whether for performance or for production, both of these apps deliver ultimate sound.

*** Convenient set list function with a PDF/image score viewer and music player ***
KORG Module provides functions you'll find convenient in any environment. The set list function provides unified management of all the settings a player needs; it lets you recall the sounds in the ideal order, view music notation, or hear a practice song. The score viewer can load and display an image or PDF file; eliminating the need to carry along a printed music score. You can use the internal camera of your iPad to record and view hand-written memos. You can use the music player to select and play a song from the library of the Music app. Since there's a tempo change function, you can slow down the tempo without changing the pitch.

*** Power-up even more with expansion sound libraries ***
While KORG Module provides a powerful collection of sounds even with its basic set, you can purchase expansion sound libraries to further extend its sonic scope. As the first round, we present two titles: the third-party mobile premium piano "Ivory Mobile Grand" from SYNTHOGY, and KORG's own vintage electric piano sound set "Wurley Electric Piano." Add sound libraries to enjoy an expanding world of mobile sound modules. The added sound libraries can be used with KORG Gadget as well."

Never Released Korg MU-5000 (Japan, 1985) Vintage Music Synthesizer PC Prototype

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

SN ES 850111

"In 1985 Korg decided to challenge the personal computer market creating a competitor for the legendary Commodore 64 (which was born three years earlier, in 1982).

Rumors then began to circulate about a new musical personal computer signed by Korg, called KORG MC-4000.

Along with the Korg MC-4000, Korg had designed 2 units which were extra and integral parts of the personal computer: a music synth expander called Korg MU-5000 and a microdisk unit called Korg MF-1000.

The incredible fact is that the personal computer project signed by Korg (the first “musical” personal computer in history) has remained for many years as a fake, since none of these products has ever been marketed in the western world.

The only historical artifact related to this project is a Japanese advertisement, a printed ad by Ishibashi Gakki released in the April 1985 issue of “Keyboard Magazine”.

In this ad (please, see the original photos), there were showed 3 products: KORG MC-4000, KORG MU-5000 and KORG MF-1000. The KORG MC-4000 music computer was then presented as a "compact computer containing its own music system".

Korg MC-4000, Korg MU-5000 and Korg MF-1000, according to historical information, have never been marketed because then Korg decided not to challenge the personal computer market. We don't know why!

Today, after years of research, we at Re Seller are pleased to present you the only survivor in the world of that super cool project: the original KORG MU-5000 expander synth!

This find of ours is of fundamental importance as it demonstrates that the Korg music personal computer project would have been really close to being commercialized!

This impossible to find Korg MU-5000 has been tested and is still in working order! Cosmetically there are minor signs of wear due to age, but nothing serious. The power supply is compatible and is included in the sale (this unit works with any 9V power supply and center negative polarity).

This small desktop synth contains beautiful sounds at its core! It is a 16-channel midi expander capable of generating some mighty impressive sounds courtesy of the same Digital Waveform Generator System used in the DW6000 and in the best Korg sounds of the 80s!

What we were able to test is very easy: we connected a midi keyboard to the Korg MU-5000 and listened to 128 sounds preset via program change (we changed the program change directly on the MIDI keyboard).

There are probably many more features to discover, but we don't have the capabilities to test it 100%!

An incredible piece of history, for the most demanding collectors in the world. Impossible to find another in all of history!"

"Korg Unveils Taktile and TRITON Taktile USB Controller Keyboards/Synths

WINTER NAMM SHOW, ANAHEIM, CA, January 23rd, 2014 - Korg (Booth 6440 / Hall A) announces the Taktile and TRITON Taktile USB Controller Keyboards. These small, lightweight USB/MIDI controller keyboards provide a wide variety of functions for song production, and are available in either 25 or 49-key variations (semi-weighted). TRITON Taktile takes the full functionality of the Taktile series and adds 512 sought-after Programs from Korg's classic TRITON Music Workstation. This enables musicians to use their controller as a standalone hardware synth or as a sound source in combination with existing plug-ins. Users have the ability to immediately play back MIDI data from their DAW without the need for additional software. TRITON Taktile also offers today's musicians rare access to coveted TRITON sounds.

Various knobs and sliders are available for controlling the numerous parameters of software synthesizers. The onboard controllers include:
Touch-sensitive, illuminated Drum Trigger Pads (8 for the 25-key models 16 for 49-key models)
Pitch Bend & Mod Wheel controls
A KAOSS-style X-Y Touch Pad that provides CC, note and track pad input
A ribbon for fast parameter selection or right/left click when in track pad mode
Assignable controllers (8 sliders, 8 knobs, 8 switches)
Dedicated DAW transport switches

A bright, clear OEL screen displays parameters and program names.

Touch Scale functionality lets users automatically generate phrases in the specified key and scale by simply moving a finger on the X-Y touchpad. This practical alternative enables anyone to easily play their software synth by using the same simple gestures as on a Korg Kaoss instrument. The Chord Trigger function allows chords to be assigned to the pads and played back. When utilized in conjunction with the Touch Scale function, users can quickly develop musical patterns/ideas into songs without the need for deep editing.

A generous array of licenses/discount coupons are bundled with the Taktile/TRITON Taktile, enabling users to start performing with popular music software immediately. Included are: Korg M1 Le software; EZDrummer Lite; Ultra Analog Session; Strum Acoustic Session; Lounge Lizard Session; Ableton Live discount coupon; and Reason Limited DAW software.

The Korg Taktile/TRITON Taktile will be available in June 2014 with US Street prices as follows: Taktile 25 - $249.99; Taktile 49 - $349.99; TRITON Taktile 25 - $349.99; TRITON Taktile 49 - $499.99 For more information, please visit www.korg.com."

New KORG Gadget Mobile Synthesizer Studio for iPad

iTunes: KORG Gadget - KORG INC. - (Currently 25% off at $28.99)

Published on Jan 23, 2014 Korg·423 videos

"WINTER NAMM SHOW, ANAHEIM, CA, January 23rd, 2014 - Korg releases Gadget for iPad, a mobile synthesizer studio that offers the ultimate mobile synth collection for iPad. It was designed for anyone looking to explore software synthesis, musicians looking for a diverse palate of synths in one integrated app, or those looking to take their iPad music production to the next level.

Korg Gadget offers a collection of 15 different synthesizers and drum machines called "Gadgets", which can be freely combined to create powerful electronic music (on the latest iPad-as of Januray 2014-more than 20 Gadgets can be run simultaneously).

The parameters of each Gadget in the app are carefully constructed to provide immediate access to the most useful sounds, and are ideal for producing all forms of electronic music. No musical instrument experience is required- each synth offers a keyboard featuring a Scale function that makes it impossible to play wrong notes, combined with a sequencer that supports the function.

Examples of included synths (full list is available on www.korg.com):

Brussels - Monophonic Anthem Synthesizer
This synthesizer gadget has a simple parameter structure with an intuitive user interface. Its thick unison tones provide the lead sounds needed for any type of electronic music.

Dublin - Monophonic Semi-Modular Synthesizer
This semi-modular synthesizer gadget with classic, vintage looks is especially good for deep bass sounds. In addition to being capable of straightforward yet deep subtractive synthesis with a plain waveform and filter, it also offers a wide range of varying tones via patching.

Miami - Monophonic Wobble Synthesizer
In addition to the bass sounds that are indispensable for today's electronic music, it features an "X-MOD" oscillator that generates complex overtones and modulation, and a "CRUSH" filter that adds distinctive noise. "WOBBLE" modulation can shift the character to produce a wobble sound evocative of an evil monster, often heard in Brostep and Dubstep.

Korg Gadget lets song ideas be captured anywhere, anytime. By connecting an external MIDI keyboard via the Camera Connection Kit, the 15 synths can be played from a real keyboard. A range of iOS music technology is also supported, including AudioCopy, and WIST.

Song data can be exported as audio data or MIDI data for a variety of uses. Songs can also be shared to the GadgetCloud* for connecting to users around the world.

Korg Gadget is compatible with iOS 7 or later, running on iPad Air, iPad mini Retina, Fourth-generation iPad, Third-generation iPad, iPad 2, or iPad mini.

The Korg Gadget for iPad will be available January 2014 with pricing to be announced shortly.

Korg NTS-1 Custom Oscillator Dev: Basic Phase Distortion Analysis

videos upload by Graham Keane

Update: new videos added.

"This simple program will serve as the basis for implementing the Vector Phaseshaping technique as outlined by Lazzarini, Timoney et al."

Playlist demos:

1. Korg NTS-1 Custom Oscillator Dev: Basic Phase Distortion Analysis
In this short video we will have a quick examination of the output of the classic phase distortion technique implemented on the Korg NTS-1 Nu:Tekt digital synthesizer. This technique produces a non-linear phase distortion of a basic cosine waveform.
2. Korg NTS-1 Custom Oscillator Dev: Filtered Phase Distortion Analysis
In this short video we will have a quick examination of the output of the filtered phase distortion program implemented on the Korg NTS-1 Nu:Tekt digital synthesizer. This technique produces a non-linear phase distortion of a basic cosine waveform which has pitch-tracked filters to tackle some of the aliasing.
3. Korg NTS-1 Custom Oscillator Dev: Basic Vector Phaseshaping (VPS) Analysis
In this short video we will have a quick examination of the output of the basic Vector Phaseshaping technique implemented on the Korg NTS-1 Nu:Tekt digital synthesizer. This technique uses a 2D inflection point to modulate the phase of a cosine waveform.
4. Korg NTS-1 Custom Oscillator Dev: Interpolated VPS Analysis
In this short video we will have a quick examination of the output of the interpolated Vector Phaseshaping (VPSI) technique implemented on the Korg NTS-1 Nu:Tekt digital synthesizer. This technique utilises pitch-tracked filters to combat aliasing as well as linear interpolation to reduce the effects of abrupt jumps in the phase due to skipped intervals in the inflection point's range.
5. Korg NTS-1 Custom Oscillator Dev: Formant Synthesis with VPS - Analysis
In this short video we will have a quick examination of the output of Formant Synthesis in the Vector Phaseshaping technique implemented on the Korg NTS-1 Nu:Tekt digital synthesizer. This technique uses a 2D inflection point to modulate the phase of a cosine waveform which generates formant peaks over certain ranges.
6. Korg NTS-1 Custom Oscillator Dev: Formant Synthesis via VPS with Interpolation Gain - Analysis
In this short video we will have a quick examination of the output of the Formant Synthesis through Vector Phaseshaping technique implemented on the Korg NTS-1 Nu:Tekt digital synthesizer. This particular version uses an interpolation gain to scale two separate VPS signals which are then linearly mixed to produce the main signal. The final signal is processed with pitch-tracked filters and an additional linear interpolation process to reduce the impact of gaps in the inflection points path which give rise to abrupt phase shifts.
7. Korg NTS-1 Custom Oscillator Dev: VPS with Multiple Inflection Points (MVPS) - Analysis
In this short video we will have a quick examination of the output of the Vector Phaseshaping technique with Multiple Inflection Points implemented on the Korg NTS-1 Nu:Tekt digital synthesizer.
8. Korg NTS-1 Custom Oscillator Dev: VPS with Lissajous Modulation - Analysis
In this short video we will demonstrate the output of the Vector Phaseshaping technique with Lissajous Modulation implemented on the Korg NTS-1 Nu:Tekt digital synthesizer.
9. Korg NTS-1 Custom Oscillator Dev: Multi-Vector Phaseshaping Synthesis (MVPS) Analysis
In this short video we will demonstrate the output of the Multi-Vector Phaseshaping Synthesis technique implemented on the Korg NTS-1 Nu:Tekt digital synthesizer. This technique uses a 3-2D inflection points to modulate the phase of a cosine waveform, which can produce interesting shapes as a result.
