The Most BORING Spectraphon Patch

video upload by MAKEN0ISE

"Unlike the Morphagene and Mimeophon, which record/play/repeat literal reproductions of sounds, the Spectraphon synthetically recreates the spectral makeup of sounds. Thus instead of sounds being 'replayed' they are 'reborn' as new spectra in an environment where they are cut loose from their origins.

Given all this, let’s speculate that the most boring thing you could do with a Spectraphon is re-create the same sound that is modulating it. Of course, on the most basic level, any recording device can do that. My phone can do that. Doing it with the Spectraphon is a bit of a catch 22. If it succeeds, then we’ve failed at doing anything interesting. If it does something interesting, then we’ve failed at … succeeding. Let's try anyway!!

All the soft pads: OB-X8, OB-6, Nord Lead 2, JUNO-6, JX-3P, JP-8000, Reface CS, Eurorack

video upload by thesrabbit

"Warning: The recordings in this video have a LOT of bass, even with a 30Hz EQ low cut. Maybe some of that will get trimmed off in YouTube compression.

Contents:
0:00 OB-X8 with TAL chorus I
1:34 Nord Lead 2 with TAL chorus I
3:04 OB-6 with built-in chorus
4:36 Juno-6 with built-in chorus II
6:06 JX-3P with built-in chorus
7:35 JP-8000 with built-in slow chorus
9:06 Reface CS with built-in chorus
10:43 Polyphonic Eurorack with Mimeophon
12:14 OB-X8 with reverb
13:53 Nord Lead 2 with reverb
15:28 OB-6 with reverb
17:04 Juno-6 with reverb
18:41 JX-3P with reverb
20:15 JP-8000 with reverb
21:52 Reface CS with reverb
23:29 Polyphonic Eurorack with reverb

I had to reupload this due to being a Davinci Resolve noob. There were all sorts of weird artifacts in the audio with the original upload. Hopefully it's fixed now.

I'm not sure if there's a point to this video at all. I love soft pad sounds. They're warm and comforting. I decided to make a pad sound on the Roland JX-3P and one thing led to another and of course I had to make a similar sound on ALL of my analog and virtual analog polysynths, including Eurorack, as I now have all the components to make a 2-VCO 4-voice polysynth. All of these pads are based on a simple 2-oscillator sawtooth, with a little detuning and pitch mod to one of the oscillators, if possible. On the Juno I there's only 1 oscillator, so there's maybe a little more LFO to pitch than on the other synths.

In the beginning, you see me play the notes on the Oberheim OB-X8 (Yes, it's an X8 and not something vintage, I have a pinstripe overlay, mostly for the Page 2 labels). I used that "performance" to capture the MIDI, which is then routed to all the other synths that are featured here, including the Eurorack setup. Before tracking the modular stuff, I removed some notes from the recorded MIDI so that there wouldn't be all sorts of crazy unpredictable voice stealing.

I used the built-in chorus on the JX-3P, so I figured it's only fair to use chorus on everything. I used the TAL Juno Chorus plugin on the OB-X8 and Nord Lead 2, setting 1. I used the built-in Chorus II on the Juno-6, and the "slow chorus" on the JP-8000. For the Sequential OB-6 and Yamaha Reface CS, I went for a similar type of slow chorus. The chorus on the OB-6 is very usable if you keep the rate low. There are sweet spots to be found. For Eurorack, I used the Mimeophon with a short delay time. It doesn't really do the chorus thing so much, but it does sort of act as a stereo widener. So if it sounds a little clangy, that's probably why.

Eurorack 4-voice poly is assembled like so:
Voice 1: 2 VCOs from the System-500 512, System-500 521 VCF, System-500 VCA, System-500 envelope
Voice 2: 2 Eowave Titan VCOs, System-500 521 VCF, System-500 VCA, System-500 envelope
Voice 3: 2 VCOs from the Wavefonix Dual CEM 3340, G-Storm SH5-VCF, Doepfer VCA, Doepfer Envelope
Voice 4: Dreadbox Erebus all internal VCOs, VCF, VCA, and envelope
All voices are mixed together and then fed into the Mimeophon
There is some additional filter modulation applied to all filters via the Erebus LFO

After the first round, all recordings are played again with the wonderfully lush Audiothingies DoctorA modulated plate reverb, approx 50/50 wet/dry mix."

Will We Set the Atmosphere On Fire? (Oppenheimer Inspired Jam)

video upload by PanicGirlVids

"In this jam I used the EMS Synthi A to play a pulsating sequence, which I altered in pitch with the joystick from time to time. The eerie pad sound you're hearing is also coming from the Synthi A, I simply took the stereo phones output and patched it into the Starlab from Strymon for this purpose. Two other sounds are coming from the Harmonic Oscillator from Verbos, which I processed with the Mimeophon for some reversed delay sounds and also with the Milky Way, which gives the melody some shimmery reverb tails later on in the jam. All other sounds are coming from my dear friend Anatol, with whom I also play as Lucid Grain.

Have you seen Oppenheimer yet? What do you think of the film - and the score?

Thanks for watching and see you soon!"

Stereo Patch From Scratch with Panic Girl featuring XPO, Buchla 258t Dual Oscillator and the Touché

video upload by Perfect Circuit

"Eurorack modular synthesizers are embracing stereo sound in new ways—over the last few years, we've seen a ton of stereo-oriented modules come out from top brands like Make Noise, SSF, and plenty more!

In this video, Panic Girl walks us through a stereo patch on her personal system, featuring the Make Noise XPO, Mimeophon, and the Tiptop Buchla 258t Dual Oscillator. This mix of mono and stereo modules makes a great learning ground for getting into the stereo mindset—so grab some headphones, tune in, and space out!

Make Noise & Mood

video upload by Aleatoric Machine

"An ambient-ish eurorack modular synthesizer patch (with pedals!), featuring:
Make Noise 0-Control, XPO, QPAS, Mimeophon, Maths, modDemix, LxD & XOH
DivKid/Instruo øchd
Strymon AA.1
Chase Bliss MOOD mkII & Dark World

All of the sounds in this patch originate from a single VCO — the XPO — sequenced by the 0-Control. The percussive voice is the stereo square wave output into into the QPAS, then the Mimeophon. The filter envelope comes from the envelope output on the 0-Control. The gate output for the last step in the sequence on the 0-Control strikes the !!¡¡ input on the QPAS. The XPO and QPAS are modulated by different LFOs from the øchd. The smooth voice is the mono sawtooth output into the the 12 dB filter of the LxD, then the LxD’s 6dB filter, then the AA.1 to interface with the MOOD and Dark World pedals. The 12dB filter envelope comes from Maths, triggered by the gate output from the 0-Control. The 6dB filter is controlled manually with an offset from Maths. Both voices go through the XOH directly into my camera (listening to the final mix, it could have used a limiter, but oh well).

I start with the MOOD 100% dry and the 6dB LxD filter completely closed, so all you hear is the square wave and delay from the Mimeophon. I slowly open up the 6dB LxD filter and increase the amplitude of the filter envelope on the QPAS. Then I bring in the wet channel of the MOOD in reverse slip mode, tuned up a fifth, which introduces some harmony and counterpoint. I play around with the MOOD mix and the filters for a while, then turn up the clock on the MOOD before bringing in the loop channel, also in reverse, for more harmony and polymeter. Then I start bringing the filters back down, while increasing the mix of the MOOD. I turn the clock back down and turn the filters down and the mix all the way up until all you hear is the backward loop from the MOOD. That’s it!"

Morphagene // Mega Modularis' First Reel

video upload by Mega Modularis

"OK! Here we go, this is my first try with the Morphagene, I was very excited to finally receive this module, which has been on my wish list for quite a while, so look out for plenty of Morphagene exploration coming soon. I started with a nice loop from Rangoon on the Lubadh and proceeded to explore and figure out how the Morphagene works, and you can come along with me for the journey! This was my first Reel, although I think after filming this I realised I’d made a new reel and still had an empty first reel, but hey, I’m still learning and exploring how this module works! My goal was to create some nice ambient soundscapes from a relatively simple melodic loop, and I think I accomplished that, what do you think? Of course the Morphagene was helped along my Mimeophon and Beads, some of my favourite ambient making modules! Anyway, sit back & enjoy! MM.

Patch Notes:

Audio: Loop from Big T Music Rangoon on the @instruo Lubadh
Main Voice: @MAKEN0ISEMUSIC Morphagene
Audio Processing & FX: Mutable Instruments Beads & Make Noise Mimeophon
Modulation: ALM Pam’s New Workout & @DivKid Ochd"

Three Generative Sequencers - And one that isn't

video upload by John Schussler

"I have a few generative sequencers I've not had time to play with, and figured I'd compare how they...play. Three are generative in one form or another, and one, the Berlin School, is not. I leave you to suffer with that incongruity in silence.

This is my first exploration with each of them, so I'm just getting a feel for how they work. You're along for the ride, but don't expect too much.

VCO is Acid Rain Chainsaw. LPG is Rabid Elephant Natural Gate. No envelope. Delay here and there is Make Noise Mimeophon. Quantizer is 2hp Tune.

00:00 Intro
00:20 Feigen
12:00 Anima
23:29 Odds
31:34 Berlin School"

This appears to be the first post to feature Subsongs Modular.

Waves // Beads as a wavetable synth through the Instruo Lubadh

video upload by Mega Modularis

"For this week’s video I tried using the Mutable Instruments Beads as the only sound source, with nothing plugged in Beads becomes a wavetable synth, which I then modulated and fed into the @instruo Lubadh, before manipulating those recordings and feeding them back into Beads and Monsoon by Big T Music, as well as my trusty @MAKEN0ISEMUSIC Mimeophon delay. This resulted in a pretty interesting ambient patch I think, with some nice use of the time control on the Lubadh, and that lovely reverb-rich granulation of Beads and Monsoon, what do you think? Anyway sit back and enjoy! MM.

Patch Notes:

Voice: Mutable Beads, Instruo Lubadh
Modulation: ALM Pam’s, @DivKid Ochd
Audio FX & Processing: Instruo Lubadh, Mutable Beads & the Big T Music Monsoon"

Transition | MakeNoise XPO x XPO

video upload by Cinematic Laboratory

"The X typically marks the location of a treasure and often symbolizes a crossroad or transition, invoking many associations.
XPO is the latest addition to the MakeNoise stereo lineup and I unofficially name my case the Shared System X. It's roughly a Shared System, but with dual XPO's instead of the DPO, QPAS, Mimeophon and X-PAN."

Stoicism //SIG+/XPO/QPAS/Mimeophon//

video upload by Aleatoric Machine

"A self-playing Eurorack modular synthesizer patch featuring Make Noise’s XPO, QPAS & Mimeophon, and Stochastic Instruments’ Stochastic Inspiration Generator (SIG+). Plus many more modules described below.

Everything you hear in this is coming from a single monophonic sequence from the SIG+ and a single Make Noise XPO. I’m pretty amazed by how much variety of tone and texture can come from this single oscillator, all at the same time. The different waveform outputs are each running through their own VCAs, filters, triggers, and effects, but the melodic content is all the same. I’ll go through the sequencing in a minute, but first I’m going to focus on the audio signal paths.

Overall, the XPO’s L & R modulation are controlled by a triangle LFO coming from Acid Rain’s Maestro.

The first output is the stereo square wave, which goes through QPAS and Mimeophon, then into the mixer. QPAS’s L & R rotation and Q are modulated by two different smooth random waves from ALM’s Pamela’s Pro Workout. Mimeophon’s repeats are modulated by a smooth random wave coming from Maestro. This voice is triggered by a bouncing ball coming from Make Noise’s Maths.

The second output is the mono triangle wave, which first goes through an Intellijel 1U VCA, then uses Intellijel’s 1U pedal I/O to go through a Chase Bliss Mood (repeats tuned up a 5th) and Chase Bliss Dark World, then into the mixer. This voice is triggered by another bouncing ball from another Maths.

The third output is the mono sawtooth wave, which goes through channel one of a Make Noise ModDemix, an Intellijel Morgasmatron (with panning controlled by separate LFOs going to the L & R FM1 inputs - LFO 1 coming from Mutable Instruments’ Tides and LFO 2 coming from Intellijel’s Rubicon 2), then a Happy Nerding FX Aid XL running a flanger algorithm, then into the mixer. This voice is triggered by a repetitive Euclidian rhythm coming from Acid Rain Constellation and Doepfer Dual ADSR.

The last output is the spike wave going through channel two of the ModDemix, a Doepfer Multimode VCF, and Strymon’s Magneto in shift mode, then into the mixer. Magneto’s repeats are modulated by another smooth random wave coming from Maestro. This voice is triggered by a slower Euclidean rhythm coming from Constellation and Make Noise’s Contour.

Each voice goes into Doepfer’s VC Stereo Mixer, which has a built in VCA on each channel. The level of each voice is independently controlled by a separate smooth random wave from Pam, so the mix is constantly evolving. The voltages coming from Pam are further slewed by Mutable Instruments’ Stages, since the smooth random wave from Pam can still have some sharp edges. Then the whole mix goes through a 2HP Verb, with the reverb mix modulated by another smooth random wave from Pam, and finally through Endorphines’ Golden Master, which connects directly to the Intellijel 7U Performance Case’s built in audio outputs.

Now for the melodic content and harmonic structure. This is all driven by Stochastic Instruments’ Stochastic Inspiration Generator (my first patch with it!). This is an incredible module. I won’t go into everything it does, as there are already a couple very helpful videos out there on that, but suffice it to say that it lives up to its name! I’m using multiple channels, each with its own tonality, then cycling through those via an ALM Boss Bow Two switch to determine which channel will control the v/oct pitch of the XPO. The Boss Bow’s channel is control by a sequence coming from another Stages. Channel one is just a low C, to establish the primary key. Channel two randomly selects pitches from a C major chord, with low C in the bass. Channel three selects pitches from an F minor chord, with an occasional 2nd and 4th and a low F in the bass. Channel 4 selects pitches from a D flat major chord, with an occasional 6th and a low D flat in the bass.

I’m not sure if this is indeterminate enough to be considered generative, since the harmonic content is fairly structured, even if the melody, rhythm, and balance of the parts are all random. It’s more, well, aleatoric. I hope you enjoy it (although I realize than if you are into this sort of thing, you are born of a special breed!)."

Nelasma - "Crushed" - Dramatic Orchestral Melodic Techno - Modular Synth Live Jam - DFAM

video upload by Nelasma

"Oh my I did it again this weekend and now I'm coughing around again... sigh... at least its not as bad as three weeks ago... tho I wanna have fun again without getting sick hahaha... A-NY-WAY!

I still managed to get together some kinda orchestral vibe techno jam for you good people! Actually wanted to finally make DFAM the main actor but well.. while playing around I made those sweet stabs on the ensemble oscillator and that inspired me for the rest of the jam.

Like in the last jam I wanted to experiment more with the delay and used some bit crushing algorithm from nautilus. Sounds kinda broken sometimes but fits the vibes and the state of my immune system.

Unto the end I managed to dial in some phase cancellation of the Bassdrum which is normally a no-no for me but well.. It was still ok and since it was clocked it still was kinda rhythmical.

So yeah a little jam with broken sickness vibes haha..
And hopefully I'm back at my 100% soon.

As always raw into OBS, no post processing, intentions and mistakes ;)

Timeline:
00:00 Start/Violin Broken Delay Rise
01:19 Beaaaaaat
01:47 Beat with hats and introducing some more elements
02:32 Giving DFAM some more space and reintroduce the violin
03:11 Break

Jamuary 2023 Mars Machine

video uploads by Mars Machine

First 10:
1. Fireflies | Modular Eurorack Beat | Erica Synths LXR, Basimilus Iteritas Alter #Jamuary2023 01
First Video this Year! I started this Patch trying to use my new Erica Synths LXR Eurorack Module for a melodic voice which I think turned out pretty nice. Bloom and Pamelas New Workout are responsible for the sequencing. Main Melody 1: LXR receiving v/oct from Bloom, sent through Mimeophon. Main Melody 2: 2hp Pluck sequenced by Bloom, mixed with Noise and filtered by Forbidden Planet through Disting Delay. Bass is Plaits, distorted and filtered by Peradam and XAOC Zagrzeb. Kick: Basimilus Iteritas Alter Drums: Erica Synths LXR
2. Karmesin | Modular Eurorack Beat || #jamuary2023 02 ||| Queen of Pentacles, Acid Rain Chainsaw
Drums: Queen of Pentacles & some additional Hi-hats made with white and pink noise Main Melody: Acid Rain Chainsaw Bass: Basimilus Iteritas Alter Background Texture is Plaits with the model Input modulated.
3. SHORES | UK GARAGE on MODULAR || #jamuary2023 03
I've been wanting to make some kind of UK garage, burial inspired piece on the modular. I think it turned out pretty neat!
4. EMBERS | Drum and Bass on MODULAR || #jamuary2023 04
Here we go again, 4th day of #jamuary2023! I try to keep it as musically diverse as possible, so I tried to make some Drum and Bass this time. I think it's quite alright for the first try!
5. Below 0 | #jamuary2023 05 || Eurorack ||| Patch Notes on Screen
It's been a long time since I wanted to use the Forbidden Planet as an Oscillator and I never found the place in a patch since it is always almost on regular filter duties. But I managed this time and it sounds very cool!
6. Erica Synths LXR Eurorack Live Techno Jam | #jamuary2023 07
#jamuary2023 lets go! Part 6! I filmed this video when I just got the Erica Synths LXR, wanting to showcase some of its sounds! I think it sounds absolutely massive!
7. Leaving | Eurorack Drum and Bass || #jamuary2023 07
More Drum and Bass! I'm really happy with the drums in this. I stumbled across the melody by accident just fiddling with Bloom.
8. Happy Accidents | Chill Eurorack Beat | #jamuary2023 08 | Patch Notes
This was a happy accident by slowing down one of my other #jamuary patches. I then changed the drums and the main melody so it fit the tempo better.

Nelasma - "Small Things" - Experimental Melodic Electronic Live Music - Modular Synth Jam Guitar

video upload by Nelasma

Below is a playlist featuring all of Nelasma's videos for those interested.

"It feels like my energy is slowly flowing back into my cells, maybe its the music haha...

I was playing around with the guitar to some beat and stumbled upon this small melodic movement. So I recorded it and put a moving low pass filter on it. So lets jam a bit with this! I thought. Not really techno or anything and I don't know what to label this kind of music.

Guess I'll make a playlist the coming days with electro or music I don't know how to label kek..

There are some clicks in the bass voice but I have no idea how and where they came from. And I wasn't in the mood to put on my debugger cap and play detective haha...

Really like how the guitar sounds in this one. I put some analog drive on it and played around with some octave shifting.. Also a rising delay with pitch warbles which I could control with a pedal.

There are some really nice parts in this jam tho as so often I think I could have done with less. Also I really could have started the movement of the bass voice much earlier hahaha...But no jam is perfect so up it goes ;)

Hope someone enjoys!

Really like

below this time does not exist by Todd Barton

https://toddbarton.bandcamp.com/album/below-this-time-does-not-exist

"The title comes from a phrase in one of my favorite books, The Order of Time by Carlo Rovelli. Back in February 2020 while in Italy my daughter and I were fascinated by Rovelli’s poetical unfolding of relational quantum mechanics for the lay person. At that time I selected a few phrases that piqued my imagination and creativity as composition titles for a future album. Coincidentally and spontaneously one day my daughter, Ursula, snapped a photo of me in the Tuscan sunlight which turned out to be quite extraordinary and evocative. We talked about it being the cover for this album. The future has arrived . . . enjoy!

--

"An abandoned modular session. In a famous small village, in the south west of France, there is a little mountain. At the top of it, what used to be a cableway station for 60 years, have been still standing there, in the hands of Entropy, for more than two decades now.

The abandoned sessions in Nature are always the most challenging, but also the most transformative. The path that leads to the chosen place is often long, steep, and lined with many obstacles.

Climbing this mountain, In the full darkness of the middle of the night, with only headlamps, and all our distorted senses, as only indicators, quickly becomes a type of active meditation, especially on the session day, with our heavy equipment.

And finally, you start to distinguish the contours of the huge station’s antenna, getting bigger and bigger, as we move on, meter by meter on the last hundred ones.

When we arrive, the connection is immediate. There is nothing comparable to this precise sensation. The surrounding sounds blend together, compose these familiar but unique melodies, in a calm and quiet mind, ready to receive.

Patch Notes:

In this session, the combo XPO + QPAS is at the heart of the patch, omnipresent.

The multi-dimensional aspect of these two modules truly resonates with the multi-dimensional experience I live through my process, and in these post human places.

In this patch, I use the XPO’s Pulse Width modulation and wave-folding stereo outputs, as well as the triangle wave one. The signals are then multiplied and sent through different filters and effects, QPAS being one important of them, here using its Low Pass and Smile Pass outputs. The different parameters are modulated by Wogglebug + hands.

This combo is accompanied, among others, by extra MN family’s members; Strega, STO(x3), DPO, Optomix, Morphagene, Maths, Mimeophon, Erbe Verb."

The Cableway Station

"Entreaty" ; behind the session

An immersive experience into my creative process.
A spiritual & musical pilgrimage on a mountain,
in the south west of France.

For those you've been following me for the last years,
you know i've been working around and refining a
special creative process.

The different steps of my creative process are ;

1. The Research of the Place
2. The First Exploration
3. The Retranscription
4. Layers of Perception (session day)
5. Sharing the Experience.

In this mini documentary, step 2 "The First Exploration",
and 4 "Layers of Perception (session day)" are mixed together.
The ascension on the session day was so challenging
physically & mentally, that we couldn't record a lot during it.
We are a small 2 people team 👥

It is an excerpt of a longer documentary that will explore
all the steps of my process, coming in 2023.

I hope you will enjoy the journey with us .
