In this song the HiHat and the two analog Congas are in Random. So there are additionally Fill-ins to the normal static rhythm)

Vintage Original Steiner Parker Synthacon

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

"Steiner Parker Synthacon original, recently totally overhauled/serviced. I think this synth sounds more interesting than most vintage synths like the minimoog/2600/synthi, it has a real wild 70’s sound with raw oscillators and juicy filter, it’s unpredictable sounding in the best way possible. Local pickup in San Francisco, please contact me prior to purchasing to arrange payment and pickup."

You can find a few good demos of the original Steiner Parker Synthacon from Todd Barton in previous posts here, and additiona demos thoughout posts here.

Yamaha B200: Ever heard of it?!

video upload by Jeremy Parker

You can find a small handfull of posts mentioning the Yamaha B200 here (only 5 including this one).

00:00 Intro
01:40 History
05:37 Demo
11:45 Song "Throw My Hands Up"
17:55 Outro

"Here's a look at the Yamaha B200 from 1988, and my very first synthesizer from my childhood. You may have seen it in some of my previous videos, but I brought it back to life recently and ended up programming a bunch of cool sounds that you can download if you also own a B200, YS200 or TQ-5. I wrote a couple new tunes here, one of which my featured performance, and I'm just loving the sounds I got, so I think this synth will not be going back in it's case! (Note that the drum sounds are not from the B200, they are from Addictive Drums. The B200 can make drum sounds but does not have drum kits.) If you use Reaper as your DAW, I also made a ReaBank file for it which you can load with the ReaControlMIDI VST, such that you can call up any of the presets over MIDI, etc. Bank 1 has the Preset voice list, Bank 2 has my new sounds, and Bank 3 has the voice list for the RCD1000 ROM voice card:

Neutral Labs Scrat customizable Steiner-Parker VCF Eurorack module demo

video upload by nyppy

"Available in July 2022 as DIY kit or prebuilt module. See https://neutral-labs.com/scrat

00:00 Intro
00:38 Resonance modes
01:02 Customization (LED)
01:42 Customization (LDR)
01:58 LDR madness
02:33 Preset cards"

Scrat is an aggressive sounding multimode Steiner-Parker filter with a twist: You can change the resonance flavour by plugging in components like diodes, capacitors or resistors (even LEDs and/or light-dependent resistors) directly to the front panel. A set of preset cartridges is also available, which gives you instant access to a variety of filter sounds. You could even make your own. Or go all in and connect some jumper wires to a breadboard for pretty much endless possibilities.

The 2-pole filter (12 dB/octave) supports both high-pass and low-pass mode. Even without external components or cartridges, the resonance behaviour can be changed in various ways via switches on the front panel. Both resonance and cutoff can be fully CV controlled, and the cutoff CV sensitivity can be adjusted as well.

The module contains an adjustable pre-filter drive circuit, which pairs very well with the Steiner-Parker design.

Scrat is available from July 2022 as a full DIY kit from retailers. It's a relatively easy build to complete, with a low component count and no SMD or other tricky parts. A set of 4 preset cards called Nuts (Acorn, Almond, Cashew and Pecan) is also available.

You can find a few demos in previous posts here.

"This is a fantastic sounding analog synth, with oscillators, filters and vca’s that are modeled after various vintage ARP circuits. With an additional Steiner Parker filter and a built in distortion circuit, wavefolding, and ample modulation paths, this synth offers a base sound that is grounded in the past but can cover unique unchartered territory."

POLYBRUTE 80s FUNK! (no talking)

video upload by Jeremy Parker

"As promised from my Arturia POLYBRUTE review, I've been making more sounds and have just upgraded to the version 2.0 firmware to allow some new cool possibilities. This original song, 'Boombox Slide', is inspired by the 1980's funk style of Prince, Cameo, Janet Jackson, Morris Day and the Time, etc. The song actually started right after I made one of the new sounds featured here, "Haywire", which itself was inspired from the keyboardist of the same name. All of the sounds, with the exception of "VHS Keys", were programmed by me and were very fun to create on the Polybrute. Enjoy!"

"This time I'm going DEEP into the Univox Mini-Korg K-2 (a.k.a. Mini-Korg 700s), including the history, the story behind the family member who passed it down to me, a demonstration of the synth, the extensive restoration effort, and finally a rad 80's song with my friend and amazing guitarist, Justin Piper.

I'd like to thank family and friends that helped with this whole project, including the Lunn Family, Kadrolsha Ona Carole, Mary Champagne, Kristin Parker, Craig Parker, and Justin Piper.

"Demonstration of how this box doesn't have to be used as a distorted, noise-laden resonant screecher. Bypassing the MiniBrute's Steiner-Parker to use a transistor ladder filter instead, offering Moog-ish warm & creamy vibes."

Astro + Arturia = AWESOME!

video upload by Jeremy Parker

"My love of astrophotography has intersected with my love of synthesizers in a beautiful venn diagram of awesomeness. At least I'm hoping so! One of the reasons I purchased my Arturia POLYBRUTE was exactly for making space music. It's been over a year since my last astrophotograhy video, so it's about that time.

Most of the images were taken from darker skies, but a couple came from home under my light pollution with the new astro camera and filters. I listed some details on the sounds I used, and also the images you'll see. If you want more dorky details, see below:

Scope: StellarVue SV102T, MoonLite NiteCrawler
Mount: Explore Scientific PMC-Eight G11, Spring-loaded OPWB on DEC, O-Vision Worm on RA
Cameras: QHY600 & QHYCFW3-L w/Chroma LRGB & 3nm Ha/OIII/SII, Nikon D5300 H-alpha mod, Nikon Z6, GoPro Hero8 Black

Computer & Software: Surface Pro Windows 10, ASCOM POTH, CdC, PHD2, SGP, Backyard Nikon

Arturia POLYBRUTE sounds used:
"Hawkins" (pad) - beginning and end astmospheric chords
"Chonky" (bass) - basslines in main song
"VHS Keys" (keys) - chords in main song
"Claire De Lune" (keys) - chords in chorus behind piano solo
"Deaths Harmonica" (lead) - melody in main song

Other sounds:
Addictive Drums VST - drums in main song

How to discover SYNTH GEMS

video upload by peter m mahr

"Making of SYNTH GEMS1. The new book of BJOOKS.

https://bjooks.com/blogs/blog/all-abo...

SYNTH GEMS 1
Written by Mike Metlay
Concept, and design: Kim Bjørn
Editing team: Chris Meyer, Marc Doty, Gordon Reid, Collin Russell and Kim Bjørn
Copy editing: Diana Smethurst
Image editing: Kim Bjørn
Additional image editing and illustration: Natascha Bondo Bjørn"

"Text from the back cover:

SYNTH GEMS 1 is your guide to an eclectic and amazing collection of synthesizers as art. Experience the history, technology, and sonic innovation of electronic music in a completely new way.

With their widely diverse designs and intentions, synthesizers offer a world of fascination. What thoughts and emotions guided their creators? What do they say about the era when they were created? How do their form and function define one another, and the music they make?

As much for serious synth enthusiasts as for newcomers to electronic music, SYNTH GEMS 1 is an enlightening look into this wonderful world of vintage synthesizers.

An art gallery of electronic aesthetics

SYNTH GEMS 1 takes you on a tour of over 60 remarkable keyboards — large and small, famed and rare, elegant, beautiful, and brutal… and ranging from classics that define entire genres to rare oddities that bring their own grace to the world.

Each synthesizer is presented in a series of finely detailed photographs, with a discussion of its origins and importance. From the dawn of commercial synthesis to the close of the Twentieth Century, the lives and times of these unique instruments are chronicled in exquisite pictures and thoughtful stories – mingling music, technology, commerce, and visual art.

Meet the synthesizer

Besides a brief introduction to the basic elements of synthesizer design, as well as a comprehensive Glossary, the book is rounded out by tours of the three museums that opened their collections to be photographed, and a selection of resources for further study: books, films, educational initiatives, online resources – even ways to play with these sounds at home.

Known classics and significant rarities

Explore the designs and read the stories behind instruments from famous brands such as ARP, Casio, Clavia, Korg, Moog, Oberheim, Roland, Sequential, and Yamaha – as well as vintage gems from Crumar, Electronic Dream Plant, Elgam, E-mu, Ensoniq, Fairlight, Kawai, Gleeman, Lord Synthesisers, Steiner-Parker, Technics, Waldorf, and more.

The GEMS Series from Bjooks celebrate the inner and outer aesthetics of electronic musical instruments:

Detailed and beautiful color photographs, taken specifically for this series
Insightful discussion of the technical details – and the historical significance – of each instrument
Clear and inviting introductions to the concepts that guide these designs"
