FVS 1 3 SEMs Audio 1

Published on Sep 28, 2018 Randy Piscione

"At the end of June 2018, after 40 years of waiting, I bought an Oberheim Four Voice. It was, to put it gently, in need of some work. This is the first time I have been able to hear 3 of the 4 SEMs sounding together. It's 3 1/2 minutes long of some sound and a slideshow of what I found when I got it home. SEM #2 is in Florida (on vacation?) with John from PM Foundations. Without his help, I would not have been able to do any of this."

PMF Toggle 2

Published on Aug 17, 2018 Randy Piscione

"Quick "demo" of the PM Foundations Toggle Eurorack Module. Not really a demo, just playing around and thought I would use the pattern for a brief bit of improv. Get the Toggle here: http://www.tindie.com/stores/pmfounda....

Rather than switch the toggle with a gate or LFO, I used a pair of function generators driven by a common clock for the Toggle CV inputs. The LEDs on the Toggle show the rhythm. Four VCOs go into four filters, which go into the four Toggle inputs, and the two outputs go to the VCAs and then the final mixer. EGs are driven from the function generators as well. The rhythm is just the filter audio outs timed by the function generators."

PMF QuantOct

Published on Jun 22, 2018 Randy Piscione

"This is a demo of a new quantizer from PM Foundations, the QuantOct. http://www.tindie.com/stores/pmfounda...

It's a four input, four output module with 14 resident scales. Mine has the following: chromatic, whole tone, major, major pentatonic, harmonic minor, aeolian minor, minor pentatonic, dorian, lydian, plus four 4-note chords. Other scales are available.

Here's another quick video with some harmony-related fooling around:"

PM Foundations Prototype Quad Quantizer test

Published on May 21, 2018 Randy Piscione

"Since I've been doing so many videos for PM Foundations, I am now part of a list of testers for new stuff. This is a prototype quantizer with an octave pot, four inputs and four outputs. It has access to 14 different scales. This video was really just a test for PMF but I thought it was interesting so PMF gave me permission to make it public."

Non VCO VCOs

Published on Jan 14, 2018 Randy Piscione

"Using a pair of function generators as VCOs, there are no standard VCOs in this video. Everything is driven from a Eurokorn sequencer, bass is one side of a Random*Source Smooth/Stepped Generator, 'percussion' is the other side. There are two noodles, from two sides of a Buchla/Toppobrillo Dual Function Generator.

A few filters are called in to add some randomness and the only other modules are utilities, such as VCAs, LFOs, EGs and mixers."

PM Foundations FK24 VCF YT

Published on Dec 18, 2017 Randy Piscione

"Here's a demo of the FK24 voltage controlled filter from PM Foundations. Gets more odd as things progress. Around 2:30 it started making some interesting vowel-ish noises. This stuff is nice, check it out. http://www.tindie.com/stores/pmfounda..."

I Wish and Superstition sort of

Published on Dec 9, 2017 Randy Piscione

"This is a mash-up of two Stevie Wonder songs, I Wish and Superstition. My right hand is still in alot of pain from a motorcycle accident on October 1st and not completely responding but I did what I could. 4-legged cameo is Charlotte. Lucky she didn't jump on the stool. Would've been a cool video 'though. Details below.

High lead is a Roland A-37 playing Animoog on an old iPad, pad is played on a Roland A-70 using its internal sounds, a Roland Alpha Juno 2, Korg Microstation and 6 Shruthis. Clavinet is a Kurzweil K2600XS and the Rhodes is obvious.

Bass is from the Eurorack modular, using a Eurokorn sequencer, RYO Paths switch, YuSynth Minimoog filter and Living VCO. The 3 channels from the Eurokorn go into the switch and are manually switched from a footswitch at my right foot using a Monome Walk module. Drums are from two Bastl Tea Kicks and Manhattan Analog SVVCF filter. Envelope generators are from Doepfer and Nonlinearcircuits. VCAs are MFOS bits I put together.

The, uh, groove on the bass, the double-plucking sort of thing, is done with the delay from a Disting Mk 1. That was trial and error."

Randy Piscione TSF 2017 Demo

Published on Nov 10, 2017 Randy Piscione

"This is my rack for the 2017 edition of the Toronto Sound Festival. It’s a Mutable Instruments Anushri, a bunch of modules from PM Foundations and some stuff from Ladik. The three PM Foundations modules with blue knobs are going to be included in the giveaways.

I start off with the Anushri, doing a bass line and some drums, all coming from the Anushri. Then I fade in three VCOs from PMF, along with the filter, EG and dual VCA. I’m also using a Frequency Central LFO and a few extra modules from Ladik. At some point, I bring up some exponential FM in one PMF VCO, driven by the Synthola Sequencer, which is clocked from the Anushri. Then, using a Befaco Attenuvertor mounted behind a custom panel, I fool with some resonance modulation on the PMF 2Q12 Filter."

PM Foundations Synthola Demo - Modulation

Randy Piscione
Published on Aug 16, 2017

"In the first video of the Synthola, I demo'd the various features of the sequencer. In this video, I hooked it up to a 'scope to look at the waveforms generated when using it as a function generator.

I only use the Win 10 Movie Maker app so the video only shows the 'scope. Someday I really need to get a better video app."

Pond

Published on Jun 13, 2017 Randy Piscione

"Starts off quiet, picks up when the drums come in. Use headphones if you can. Better audio is here: http://randypiscione.bandcamp.com/tra...

Sequence, bloopy percussion and lead is the modular. The lead is the nonlinearciruits VCO on the left and a Make Noise DPO on the right. Lower pad-ish thing is the Phenol driven by the modular. Whistle-ish thing is the Kurzweil, and so are the drums."

"Calling this Pond is a bit of a stretch but it's what I thought of. It starts out really mellow, like a pond just as dusk is approaching, where you might here the odd bird but not much else. But as night moves in, things start to happen in a pond, all sorts of little creatures come out.

Instrumentation is a combination of the Eurorack modular, Kilpatrick Phenol and some Kurzweil K2600XS"

Nonlinear circuits VCO demo Part 2

Published on May 29, 2017 Randy Piscione

"Here is the second part of the Nonlinearcircuits VCO demo. This one is just a performance, no talking (yes!). Just me showing off. I am at various times manually tweaking the tuning on the VCO to affect the Hard sync, and the frequency and modulation depth on the various CV inputs. It’s all live, so if you can manage to listen to all of it, there are some interesting sounds coming out of this thing. See the details below for what I’m using. This is a very cool and very capable VCO.

Here are the details:

The bass sequence and drums are from a Mutable Instruments Anushri. Everything else is the nlc VCO, just one VCO, one side, no filter. Sync (hard) is coming from the other side of the nlc VCO. Output is the PanPulse. PWM is handled by a Frequency Central Wave Runner, Sync Mod is a PM Foundations 3080 VCO, PanPWM is a TipTop Z3000, DC FM is modulated by an nlc ADSR 312, which is causing the Sync to move a bit when I play the keyboard. AC FM is modulated by an X-4046 VCO through a Fonitronik Cascade. An MFOS VCA is using CV from another nlc ADSR 312 to handle dynamics, and that is going to a Ladik M-171 Mixer."

Nonlinear circuits VCO demo Part 1

Published on May 28, 2017 Randy Piscione

"Demo of a Nonlinearcircuits VCO. From the nlc website, 'The VCO is a standard Mikulic/Electronotes core with phase sync and pan-pulse circuitry from the Aries AR-338.' This is from 2012.

I created a custom (and not particularly attractive) panel to house two of these behind it. Going to do another video to demo the sync and FM but probably something more performance-oriented.

Pmfoundations 3080 VCO

Published on Apr 26, 2017 Randy Piscione

"This is a demo of the 3080 VCO from Pmfoundations. Find out more at https://www.tindie.com/stores/pmfound.... Near the start I mentioned 'VCA' instead of 'VCO.' Oops."

via Pmfoundations:

"Compact 6HP VCO for Eurorack Modular synthesizers

DIY - PCB AND PANEL ONLY

This is a compact Triangle Core VCO. You can install your classic CA3080 OTA chips or use a modern LM13700 instead. The PCB has the option to use either chip.

This VCO has been shrunk to the minimum size possible so you can maximize the remaining space in your rack, while packing in a wealth of functionality:

Triangle, pulse and sine wave forms
1/V octave input + variable Linear FM CV and variable Exponential FM CV
Adjustable pulse width and variable PWM CV input
6HP Eurorack with our panel
This is a low component count project so you can have high quality VCOs in your rack with minimum expense.

Build it yourself - This is a set of one high quality PCB and front panel ONLY for users who want to purchase their own components and build their own module. Some product photos above show COMPLETED build.

This module will fit perfectly into a 6HP Eurorack space.

Comprehensive manuals, parts lists and component shopping carts are provided in the documentation link for building, testing and using the module."

I Feel Love (Donna Summer, Giorgio Moroder)

Published on Jan 1, 2017 Randy Piscione

"I suppose it's a rite of passage to do 'I Feel Love' on your synth setup, so I figured it was time. Music track is live, video is snippets I put together. Lots of modules involved. I usually like to do drums without drum modules but cheated here. Bass drum is a Tea Kick, snare is a combination of Tea Kick and noise. Pad is a bit over-the-top, a combination of 7 Shruthis, Preen FM, Roland Alpha Juno 2 and Roland A90-EX."
