Rebel Technology Witch: Compact Versatile Polyphonic Synthesizer

videos uploaded by Rebel Technology

Playlist:

1. Rebel Technology Witch: SubTract Patch
First demo of our upcoming Witch, a patchable synthesizer in a compact format.

SubTract is one of the factory patches: a polyphonic Virtual Analogue synthesizer with 48dB resonant low pass filter, two assignable tap tempo LFOs, envelopes, FM, and overdrive effect.
2. Rebel Technology Witch: VoSim Patch
Rebel Technology Witch is a patchable synthesizer in a compact format.

Demo of the VoSim polyphonic synthesizer patch, which has high and low formants, two tap tempo LFOs and adjustable envelopes. The audio inputs are used for FM.

The first part demonstrates Performance mode, which allows for chords to be easily triggered and sustained.

In the second part an AKAI LPK-25 MIDI keyboard is used to play and sequence the patch in Expression mode, which gives continuous pitch control.
3. Rebel Technology Witch: WaveBank vs Ensoniq SD-1
Witch WaveBank meets the Ensoniq SD-1 classic synthesizer, thanks to a cheap MIDI to USB converter.

The Witch plays the lead synth track, at first receiving MIDI directly from the keyboard, then sequenced from the SD-1 which also plays the other parts: bass, pads and percussion. The Witch and SD-1 are passively mixed and direct recorded into a Zoom Q2N camera.

There are no effects on the Witch output apart from the built in delay, which is tap tempo synchronised to the sequencer track.

WaveBank Performance is a stereo morphing wavetable synth that you can load your own wavetables into. It is one of eight synth patches that comes with the Rebel Technology Witch, a patchable synthesizer in a compact format.

via Rebel Technology

"The Witch is a compact and versatile polyphonic synthesizer.

The Witch can be used Standalone, with a MIDI Controller, Analog Sequencer, or MIDI Polyphonic Expression / MPE Controller. It comes with four different synth engines:

SubTract Virtual Analogue synthesizer with 48dB resonant filter
VoSim Voice Simulator formant synthesizer
WaveBank Morphing wavetable synthesizer
QuadSampler Sampler with peak filter
Each synthesizer engine is provided in two variants:

Expression Mode Continuous pitch control and MPE support
Performance Mode Discrete pitch control, standalone chords and classic MIDI support
Other features include two assignable tap tempo LFOs with continuously variable shapes and a powerful effects section.

As well as eight factory patches, the Witch is fully compatible with the OWL Library of more than 300 patches. What’s more, users can create their own patches using any of the supported DSP languages: Pure data, Max gen~, SOUL, Faust, Maximilian and C++.

The Witch has its own Synth Editor web application: witch.rebeltech.org

The release date for the Witch is July 29. Kits will be available from Befaco."

Rebel Technology CLK Demo

Published on Jun 8, 2018 Rebel Technology

via Rebel Technology

"CLK is a 4HP triple clock generator that outputs three synchronised clocks. It comprises of a master clock and two dual function multiplier/dividers. Turn clockwise to multiply, anti-clockwise to divide. The outputs are always perfectly synchronised. Use it to feed several trigger sequencers or to generate instant ‘four on the floor’ style patterns.

The top knob sets the master clock, ranging from 40 to 200 BPM. The top jack outputs the master clock as 16th notes.

The middle and bottom knobs either multiply or divide the master clock, depending on whether the knob is turned clockwise (multiplication) or anti-clockwise (division) from the centre position. At 12 o’clock they output the same clock as the master, that is to say they multiply / divide by 1.

The middle knob values are 1 in the centre, then 2, 3, 4, 6, or 8 times as you move away from 12 o’clock.

The bottom knob outputs 1, 2, 4, 8, 12 or 24 times multiplication or division.

Rebel Technology Introduces the Magus, Wizard, & Alchemist on Kickstarter

Magus Modular Synthesizer Toolkit 2018 Published on Apr 5, 2018

"Algorithms are modern day magic spells. Add magic to your music with the Magus, a patchable, programmable synthesizer toolkit."

Magus KickBox Demo Published on Apr 4, 2018 Rebel Technology

"KickBox is a groovebox patch running on the Magus synthesizer toolkit. It makes a beat with hats and a kick, and adds a virtual analogue subtractive synth voice with a killer 8-pole resonant low pass filter.

Realtime parameter tweaking and 24 analogue patch points give you complete creative control over how the sound is produced."

Wizard PolySub Demo Published on Apr 4, 2018 Rebel Technology

"PolySub is a polyphonic subtractive synth patch running on the Wizard. PolySub has 8 voices true polyphony with virtual analogue oscillators, waveshape and PWM morph, 8-pole resonant filter and ADSR envelopes.
In this demo it is sequenced with the CV and gate outputs of a Korg SQ-1 but it can also be played by connecting a MIDI device."

Alchemist Ping Pong Delay Demo Published on Apr 4, 2018 Rebel Technology

"Ping Pong Delay running on Alchemist, synchronised to the trigger output of a TR808 drum machine. The trigger keeps all the beats tight and allows the delay to bounce anything from 16th notes and triplets to full bars around the stereo space."

Check out the KickStarter here: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/...

"The Magus, Wizard and Alchemist are all built on the Rebel Technology OpenWare firmware and can run the same patch programs as two of our existing products: the OWL Pedal and OWL Modular. This means that our entire library of more than 200 patch programs is ready to use right now!"

Magus Synthesizer Toolkit Prototype

"Algorithms are the magic potions and spells of the modern day. In electronic music, they make the wooshes, booms, squeals, screams and bops that might have us contemplate the universe, reach personal insight, or dance like mad for days on end. Join us on a journey to create ever more powerful algorithms, and to make them open and available to everyone. We already have a community of hundreds of talented synthesists sharing their work. Let's make it bigger, let's make it better, let's do it together!

The Magus is like having a compact modular synthesizer without being limited by the modules you've got in it.

Unlike traditional synthesizers, the Magus doesn't confine itself to a fixed function or paradigm. Whether you want granular, additive, FM, subtractive, spectral, chaotic or stochastic synthesis, Magus gives you the freedom to pick the right algorithm for the job and then lets you loose to patch up a storm.

Enjoy the creative power of a hardware synthesizer with the flexibility of audio plugins.

If our existing library of algorithms doesn't do it for you, you can even create your own, for truly unbounded creative freedom. And you can use any one of more than two hundred patches from our library as a starting point. Patches can be authored in Max Gen, Pure data, FAUST or C++, giving you an impressive range of powerful musical programming tools to choose from."

Wizard Minisynth Prototype

"The Magus' little brother is the Wizard. It runs the same patches and is also patchable as well as programmable. This means that you can change the signal flow on the fly and connect it to other kit. It is incredibly compact but still sports five assignable control knobs and four buttons, and a total of six patch points. Like the Magus it has both USB MIDI device and host connections so that you can plug your favourite controller straight in - be it keyboard, drum pads, sequencer, grid, or multidimensional controller. It makes an excellent stand-alone synth or effects unit and has huge integration capabilities."

Alchemist Microsynth Prototype

"The Alchemist is the baby of the family, but it packs a powerful punch. With four knobs, two trigger buttons, one mode button and trigger and CV inputs it amazingly still fits in your hand.

All three devices have a USB socket and can be powered by USB or by an external DC supply."

Rebel Technology - Mix 04: Introduction

Published on Mar 7, 2018 Rebel Technology

"Demo of Mix 04. Mix 04 is our 4x4 VCA matrix, a powerful routing and processing tool for Eurorack modular synthesizers with 16 top quality Blackmer VCA's."

via Rebel Technology

"Mix 04 is an extensible 4 in / 4 out VCA matrix with a total of 16 transparent Blackmer VCAs. The matrix can route any input to any output. Several Mix 04 modules can be combined to make a bigger matrix.

Analogue Bus
Mix 04 features the new Rebel Technology analogue bus, allowing compatible modules to be interconnected without additional patching. Connect two or more Mix modules to create a mixer with more inputs and outputs. Balanced inputs and outputs can also be added, either for front panel mounting or built in to the modular case.

Description
The module features a 4×4 matrix of CV inputs, one for each input (vertically arranged) going to each output (horizontal). The level for the first input going into the first output is set by the CV input jack at the top left of the module. From top to bottom are the CVs for input 1 to 4, and from left to right for output 1 to 4.
The two rows of LEDs indicate the input and output levels respectively. The first row of jacks below the LEDs are the inputs, the row below are the outputs.

Bus
On the back of the module there are four 5-pin interconnect headers. Two 5-pin headers connect the input channels and normalled inputs. Normalling means that a connection can be made between two modules when nothing is inserted into the normalled jack. Inserting a plug into the jack breaks the normalled connection.

Five Thoughts For Eurorack Modular

Published on Mar 2, 2018 John L Rice

"While this isn't a demo of the ADDAC214 VC Rotator, all five of these pieces use it in the patch. See patch details below:

Unless otherwise noted the following terms indicate:
ADDAC214 - ADDAC System ADDAC214 VC Rotator sequential switch
VCO - Synth Tech E330 Multimode VCO
EG - Modcan Quad Envelope
VCA - Bubble Sound VCA4p
Voice - VCO+EG+VCA
Mixer - Circuit Abbey Unify + expander
Sequencer - Division6 Mattson SQ816
Clock - Erica Synths Black VC Clock v2
LFO - Erica Synths Black Octasource
E102 - Synth Tech E102 Quad Temporal Shifter
QPQ - Instruo Quad Performance Quantizer
Delay - Mooer Ocean Machine pedal
Reverb - Mooer Ocean Machine and TC Electronic T2 pedals

1) Initial Test 0:00
A typical 4 voice patch I do with this system is to process a CV sequence through the E102 shift register and then through the QPQ to provide CV and gates for the Voices. In this case the ADDAC214 is inserted between the E102 and QPQ so that when clocked at a faster rate the QPQ gets channel updates more often and fires the Voices more often. I'm using a modified Doepfer A-182-1 Switched Multiple + Doepfer A-180-2 Multiple to switch between the different Clock outputs. Delay used was the Synth Tech E580 Resampling Mini Delay.
