Random Sequence Lengths
video upload by boxoftextures
Follow-up to this post.
"So I was minding my business the other day and checking out Matrixsynth.com, as one does, and came across a post about a video from OZ Hall. He had patched up a Eurorack version of a 960 sequencer so it would vary the sequence lengths. I hadn't even watched the video yet but just from what was in the description I was able to see the whole setup laid out before my eyes. I could make this work in Voltage Modular with randomized sequence lengths picked automatically each time through the sequence. So I set to work and an hour late I had this patch, and in this video I go through it step by step to show how it all works.
The major difference between my version and what OZ Hall did is that I added a Random Task module and a couple of switcher modules so it could switch sequence length on its own without me having to manually do it. Could totally be done in hardware given the proper modules, of course.
To make this work what I've done is to connect each sequencer step's trigger output jack to an input on a switching module. Then, every time the sequencer hits step 1 it sends a clock to the Random Task module, which makes it pick a random voltage. That gets sent to the 1x8 Switch module which picks the output based on the voltage level. That voltage gets sent to the switching module which sends a voltage for the chosen step into the buss module and then on to the trigger input of the sequencer, forcing it to start over from step 1.
So every time the sequencer hits step 1 it essentially picks the step which triggers the reset to step 1 and you get random sequence lengths, picked by the Random Task.
So I'd like to thank both Matrix and OZ Hall, and there are links below to both the post on Matrixsynth.com and to the YouTube video that set all the bells off in my head.

Modules used:
From Cherry Audio
960 Sequential Controller

Random Task
1x8 Switch
SynthVoice
Mini LFO
Stereo Delay

From Playertron

Lastly, just to make this super clear as I don't explicitly bring it up in the video, say you want to have a four step sequence. In that case, you'd want to patch the output jack of step 5 to the input jack of step one, What we're doing with the switching mechanism is having *all* the output jacks connected at once through the buss but we're letting the Random Task module choose which switch it closes on the switching module to let one of those signals through. So in a sense we're using a module to repatch the bottom row of jacks on the sequencer on the fly.

Playlist:
1. O Z Hall: Zebra Synth
Dive into the enthralling world of synthesizers and witness O Z Hall's outstanding entry, "Zebra Synth", in the Synthesizers.com Composition Contest. Crafted with unparalleled precision and technique, this remarkable composition combines an array of captivating sounds that will take you on a breathtaking sonic journey.
Hall masterfully utilizes three distinctive patches in "Zebra Synth" to create an immersive soundscape. The first patch features a drone made using a Q106A oscillator, which is meticulously processed by a wave folder. Another oscillator, intertwined with linear FM from the wavefolder output, results in a fascinating "clang tone" that is beautifully amplified by a digital reverb.
In the second patch, a sequenced voice is artfully produced by employing two re-paneled Q106 oscillators. One output is channeled into the input of the linear FM, which subsequently provides intriguing timbral variations. The Q119A sequencer's 3rd row masterfully controls a Ratchet effect, adding even further depth to the composition. An expertly-applied digital delay effect enriches the output of this patch.
Lastly, the lead voice is ingeniously designed using the Q169 Dual Oscillator with Pulse Width modulation. O Z Hall skillfully manipulates the 24db/oct low pass filter in real-time to deliver an electrifying performance. The extended digital delay effect ties the entire sonic experience together.
O Z Hall's "Zebra Synth" draws its arsenal of modular synthesis tools from the Synthesizers.com catalog, including Q106, Q106A, Q119A, Q171, Q148, Q127, Q169, Q168, Q167, Q114, Q174, and Q175A modules. The creative process has been meticulously executed, showcasing how these modules can be combined to engineer a rich and dynamic sound adventure.

ARP Pro Soloist High Pass (HP) Filter Section Clone by O.Z. Hall
Published on May 14, 2020 O.Z. Hall
"I cloned the ARP Pro Soloist High Pass (HP) Filter section. The output of the high pass filter section goes straight into the 24DB/Oct Low Pass filter on the soloist.
There are 4 - 6DB/oct HP filter circuites at 4 different cutoffs. They are in parallel. The outputs are summed.
This video demonstrates each of the 4 filters in isolation. Next they filters are combined in every combination (limit two filters at a time)."

AT 327 basic demo
video upload by brokenwave
"This is a simple demonstration of the AT-327 Multimode Filter from Triangulum Research.
The AT-327 is a multimode filter based on the Aries AR-327; a filter designed by Dennis Colin in 1975 for Aries Inc. in Massachusetts. Dennis Colin designed many important filters for ARP, Aries, and Oberheim, but the Aries filters are hard to come by. Their design is similar to that of the ARP 1047, but was simplified to reduce cost and make use of newer components that had come on the market as of 1975.
I have a particular fondness for the rich and sometimes gristly analog timbres produced by the Aries System 300 modules, and as challenge to myself, decided to adapt their designs to the very popular eurorack standard. This is the first character in the series."
