WaveReX DDD-11 Expansion Card for KORG DDD-1/5 and DRM-1

video upload by Knobs & Switches

"Here is my closer look to the new WarReX Sample Expansion Card for the KORG DDD Series (DDD-1, DDD-5 & DRM-1). The title track was made only with the DDD-1, except the Solo Sound was played on a DX-21. I created a lot of Samples for the Card with Linndrum, ARP2600m, TR505, DX21, SCHMIDT and Eurorack.

https://shop.waverex.de/de/waverex-dd..."

The following is Google translated from WaveReX

"You've had to wait a long time, now it's finally here: our new WaveDDD, the ultimate PCM card for all KORG DDD drum machines.

The highlight: WaveDDD has 99 memory banks that you can switch by touch. Like the original ROM cards from KORG, each bank can hold 8 drum samples. However, the number depends on the size of the samples. The maximum memory size of a bank is 64kB. The samples are saved at the usual DDD sample rate of 25272Hz. Our editor takes care of the resampling with its excellent, built-in resampler.

What are you waiting for? Be inspired by the sound aesthetics of the KORG DDD Drum Machine and experience a musical transformation like never before. Discover the unique connection between vintage flair and modern technology and become part of a movement that is redefining the boundaries of music. Start now and bring your music to life!

The first MIDI sequencer from Roland, Yamaha and Korg | How different they are!

video upload by

"Roland with the MSQ-700 from 1983/1984, Yamaha with the mothership QX1 from 1984 and Korg with the SQD-1 from 1985.

They are very different in both design, functionality and power, but they were the first MIDI sequencer these three companies did."

TAL sampler Digital collection Vol. 2 | Korg Poly-61 & Poly-800

video by Espen Kraft

"Digital Collection Vol.2 - Korg Poly-61 and Poly-800 - For the TAL sampler

In the early 80s, Korg released two synthesizers, the Poly-61 (1982) and the Poly-800 (1983). Capable of very unique sounds, they've both been elevated to cult classics today.
Now I have meticulously sampled all my best original sounds from these classics and turned it into a pack for the TAL sampler.
32 patches for the Poly-61 and 32 patches for the Poly-800.

Get the patches here:
https://thepatchbay.co.uk/product/tal...
https://sound7.co.uk/products/espen-t...

As an added bonus I've also sampled my Korg DDD-1 drum machine to give you a classic 80s drum kit to play with. All mapped out on the keyboard. Some of the sounds in this drum kit are duplicated in different tuning options for your pleasure.

All sounds are taken directly out of the hardware and recorded through SSL Superanalogue preamps for the best audio quality.
All the sounds are recorded dry, so the reverb and delay you hear in the demo are from the TAL sampler itself (can be turned off of course), except for the Poly-800 brass and Sweeps that have a dash of Valhalla VintageVerb on them. Again, only in the demo itself.

The audio demo features only sounds from this pack, 100%."

Korg DDD-1 | Outstandingly fun drum machine!

video by Espen Kraft

"The Korg DDD-1 drum machine from '86-87 is one of the better drum machines you can get from the 80s. It has a Kick and Snare that can rival the Linndrum and it has awesome specs throughout.

The demo song is made up from drums of the DDD-1. I programmed two patterns that just alternates in Song mode, on repeat.
Then I programmed the chord pattern on the Korg SDQ-1 sequencer and set that to drive/sync the DDD-1 through MIDI sync. The SQD-1 has two MIDI outs so the other played those chords on a Korg EX-800, the module version of the Poly-800.
I played the synth solo with the same sound off the EX-800 and I played the bass from the Korg DW-8000. Since this required three hands, I multitracked it all. The SQD-1 was clocked/synced directly from the DAW and put in external MIDI sync. That way the multi tracking was always on the beat.

In the demo I have processed each of the drum sounds individually to sound the best, so these are not the dry sounds out of the DDD-1. What's the fun of that?

The demo song is shot on VHS tape, with a Panasonic M7 VHS camera from 1987 and the footage is edited down in Adobe Premiere Pro on a 720p timeline."

"Fifth Avenue Menace" - Yamaha RS-7000 + Prophet 6 + Prophet REV2 + Korg MS-2000

Published on Apr 15, 2020 Patrick Manderson

"Recorded live late afternoon on April 5th, 2020 using a Yamaha RS-7000 MIDI Sequencer and a room full of MIDI synthesizers & drum machines. The sequencer was painstakingly programmed to play all instruments as well as automations, modulation, volume & patch changes. The instruments ran through 3 mixers and a rack of compressors and outboard effects. All parts were mixed and recorded in a single take. This video was recorded and edited afterwards.

The initial inspiration started with the Korg DDD-5, Korg EX-8000 & Sequential Prophet 6. Later the vox parts were developed on the Korg MS 2000. The Korg Radias would likely do a better job making voice-like sounds but the MS 2000 was more convenient in the early stages. Instead the Radias provided a custom kit of percussive noises, sweeps and plucks.

The Korg EX-8000 is a beautiful sounding synth, unfortunately one patch was used to play bass and nothing else. However the pitch wheel was assigned filter cutoff - giving it the right texture during parts of the music. Art Tube Channel provided its EQ and compression.

The Prophet 6 plays the dominate piano progression in the first half and later takes a minor role filling in space once the intensity kicks in. This patch was very expressive with both envelopes mapped to velocity.

The Korg Minilogue has double-duty with the main melody and layering the bass parts in the first half. Its filter has lots of sweet spots and can be dialed in just right when inspired.

Sequential REV2 and Roland JP-8080 are quite busy filling in various swells, stringy pads, portamentos and spacy atmospherics throughout. The REV2's deep programming allows it to fit perfectly where it needs to.

The BassStation plays a duet of solos in the last 3rd along with Minilogue and MS 2000. Its programming is very flixible for solos using mod wheel, pitch and channel aftertouch. The multi-mode filter give you lots of flexibility to dial in the right sound. A vintage 8bit digital delay added epic sound to the most important parts of the BassStation.

The Roland JX-03 has a minor role doubling a channel with the Radias however the Roland SH-01A is more prominent role filling in necessary chords and melodies.

The Electribe ESX-1 wasn't originally part of this music until later when a need for more punchier beats for the second half.

Accoustic drums came from an expansion card installed in the Roland XV-5080. It was easy to male good use of the multitimbral key-range mapping with a number of arpeggiated plucks drowned in reverb and delay.

The Radias provided additional distorted noises thru bit-reductions at the very end.

Additional reverbs were generated by the Ensooniq DP/4. The Lexicon MX200 pitch shifted the kick and snare on the DDD-5 while the Quadraverb engulfed the drum bus with gated reverb.

All MIDI ran through the MOTU MIDI Timepiece MTP AV.

The camera is an old Panasonic Lumix LX7 point and shoot. Editing was done in Davinci Resolve."

This one was spotted and sent in via xonox who noticed the following: "No mention is made in the auction but there is AFX scratched on the surface of the machine. According to Ed DMX (DMX Krew), Aphex Twin used one on his early tracks. Interview here. It is not my auction, i have no insider knowledge on anything either. Is it possible it's indeed one of AFX's drum machines or is it some classic AFX prank ?"

The SD140 has only been featured on the site twice before this post.

The following is the full description from the listing saved for the archives:

"Up for sale a unique extremely rare vintage drum machine. impossible to find it in another place. Many years ago I found this diamond and made the service in a professional workshop. Korg DDD-1 Drum Machine Overview

Published on Nov 3, 2016 anode8

"Here's a quick look around the Korg DDD-1, a vintage drum machine from the late 1980's. This unit was the flagship rhythm unit from Korg at the time, which could be expanded with up to 4 ROM cards of additional sounds, as well as a functioning sampler with an added RAM card. This machine features basic drum sounds that can be tuned, and assigned to any of the 6 extra outputs. Additionally, the DDD-1 has full MIDI capabilities, tape in/out for saving, metronome, and clock outputs."

Monotribe Acid /// Session 3: I herd u liek it sloppy

First appearance of my korg DDD-1, though I have had it for a while. It has a trigger out which makes for much easier monotribe syncing than what I'd been doing.

Korg Gadget, '80s Themed demo (Berlin, Chicago, London, Chiangmai), by Jordan Passmore

Published on Jan 27, 2014 Jordan Passmore·69 videos

"This demo is of the Korg Gadget iPad app featuring 4-tracks all playing and sequenced from within Gadget itself. The 4 instruments are Chicago and Berlin monosynths (Chicago is doing the melody and Berlin the bassline), London doing the drums (most of the drums are from the DDD-1, a very underrated digital drum machine from the 80's that Korg has sampled and included within this app) and Chiangmai playing the digital-sounding chord stab. The window to the left should give you an idea of what I am doing on the iPad (tweaking and muting stuff live).

I should note there are some skips and pops here and there in the video. These hiccups occur on my iPad Mini only with Korg Gadget for some reason. I believe the demand this app puts on the processor is quite high. This should come as no surprise though as every single synth/drum machine they have packed into this app sounds fantastic."
