M.I.A.'s Jazzmutant Lemur multi touch MIDI and OSC Controller

via this auction

via the listing: "This item was bought brand new and has had only one owner. It was programmed by Andrew Plourde and myself and used by M.I.A. on stage for her 2007-2008 world tour. The Lemur is probably the most flexible and customizable multi-touch interface. Everything from complex software mixer control to unique step sequencers is possible to program in an eloquent and efficient manner.

Unlike Touch OSC on the iPad, the Lemur has rapid fire response times due to its gigabit ethernet connection. What this means is that the user experience will never be marred by latency or the timing short coming of wifi OSC/MIDI control. Also unlike TouchOSC the user is able to design patches with algorithmic modules. For example, bouncing ball algorithms that move on their own or in response to the users input can generate automating MIDI/OSC data. Imagine, for example, automating a filter cutoff frequency and oscillator tuning of a synth in realtime! No other controller, sans very complex Max/MSP patches, provides for such functions in an easy and immediate programming and interface environment.
If you watch the video below, you can see a little bit of how I used the Lemur. While the M.I.A. patches were rather involved, I had designed a much simpler patch to control all of Studio C at Asphodel Studios/Recombinant Media Labs. I would convert most of the MIDI data from the Lemur into Control Voltage and Gate data via a Kenton Pro 2000. In this way, I was able to modulate various parameters on the modulars (Serge and SMS) simultaneously via the bouncing ball algorithms. I used such features to great extent during many auto-running demonstrations and installation pieces such as the one I designed for an AES conference open house we hosted at Asphodel.

XLR8R TV Episode 10: Asphodel and Recombinant Media Labs

YouTube Uploaded by XLR8RTV on Aug 14, 2007

"In part one of a series, XLR8R Technology editor Ken Taylor takes you on a tour of one of electronic art's finest facilities, Asphodel and Recombinant Media Labs. Comprised of an unprecedented 16.8.2 -channel, 10-screen surround-cinema performance environment with an external control room, a suite full of new and old synthesizers (all in mint condition), a DVD- and CD-mastering studio and a recording studio with top-of-the-line equipment spanning nearly every era of electronic music, Asphodel and RML is a sound artist's dream come to life. While the technology is impressive, it's only one aspect of what makes these studios special. We'll explore the facility further in future episodes.

Rheyne - Live Jam #83 (coffee table jam)

Published on Jul 11, 2013 RheyneMusic·116 videos

"Live looping with KMI controllers, two wireless iPads running Lemur, and Ableton Live. All loops are recorded live, nothing was pre-recorded.

The KMI 12-step is mapped to four separate loopers for each instrument (drums, piano, two synths). In this video, only the looper for the drums is being triggered, and the remaining loops are recorded into clip slots and toggled via Lemur running Live Control 2.0. Both instances of Lemur on the iPads are wirelessly controlling Ableton Live via an ad-hoc network. The Lemur keyboards are controlling two separate instances of NI's Massive. The audio-out from the Macbook was split to headphones and a Zoom Q3HD. The video was recorded with a Canon T3i.

...and my apologies on that last chord... missed one of the notes! But if I edited it, it wouldn't be live anymore.

Equipment:
KMI QuNeo controlling Kontakt / drums
KMI QuNexus controlling Kontakt / piano
KMI 12-step controlling Ableton's looper plugins
2x iPads running Lemur and LiveControl 2.0

Controlling a Eurorack Modular with the iPad & Lemur

Controlling my Eurorack from my iPad (Lemur) from Icaro Ferre on Vimeo.

"In this video I'm trying to use the Lemur app on my iPad to control my Doepfer A-106-5 module in my Eurorack.

So basically the A-106-5 is receiving CV from my Expert Sleepers ES-3 (which is receiving data from the Silent Way plugin on my mac via lightpipe).
The Lemur app is connected to my mac and it's mapped to Silent Way's parameters.

Kinda cool, kinda nerdy.

PS: I know I'm moving the camera a lot but my idea was to document the process so I didn't pay much attention to the excessive amount of movement! Sorry :)"

Rheyne - iOS Jam - 4/24/12 (Live Jam #41) Lemur, AniMoog, Geo, and Griid

YouTube Published on Apr 24, 2012 by RheyneMusic

"Stream or download an audio-only version of this jam at SoundCloud: http://snd.sc/K8qcgA

A 100% live improvised jam using only iOS devices and Ableton Live. Lemur is running on two iPads, AniMoog is on a third iPad, Geo Synthesizer is on an iPhone and Griid is running on an iPod Touch. This is a combination of live audio input, wireless MIDI, and wired MIDI through an iConnectMIDI on the lower right iPad. All effects and filters are from Ableton Live, remotely controlled by the custom Lemur templates.

The audio from AniMoog and Geo is being fed into a PreSonus 1818VSL connected to a Macbook Pro. The drums are from NI's Kontakt, and the yellow and red synths controlled by Lemur are the same Massive patches from the RheyneLooper (http://youtu.be/ZvXngE-LiKI). More controls have been added since the RheyneLooper versions, and will be released soon in a "Version 2" of the download package available at Liine's user library.

No preparation was done for this piece in terms of preset tempos or pre-recorded loops. The tempo was determined by the first loop recorded on drums through Lemur. All loops are recorded live."

Spinnaface . Lemur . Live Set Sample from Spinna Face on Vimeo.

"Short sample of my new Live set.

Setup is JM Lemur, connected to a mac laptop running Ableton and Max/MSP Clip launcher template. Currently my set has about 500 samples and loops in ableton, that I can trigger via the Lemur. Full set is a hour long ...

MAX/MSP Template developed Bjorn of the Covert Operators. thecovertoperators.org/

MAX/MSP template communicates with the API in Live to sync clips, colors, names, etc. via OSC.

Ya, Spinna's pretty nerdy ...

Wii controls LEMUR drums

"YAWD (Yet another Wii Demo). In this demo I have mapped the wii remote to trigger real drums. The amazing work is the LEMUR Percussion bots. I simply made a few MIDI connections in Max/MSP. I'm still working on a good acceleration to trigger (curve to point?) method. This current method is prone to double triggers when used with the LEMUR bots. This may be a function of MIDI message buffers and/or collisions in the output of Max (or my MIDI interface or the LEMUR firmware).

Any thoughts on quantization welcome... I was thinking if i knew more about machine learning it would be swell to train the quantization software to listen as I am playing and adjust the rules to fit with in the style I'm playing. The style training would have to happen in advance, but then it could adjust between swing time and speed metal quantization based on my playing (rather than pre-selecting the style...) Ideas for a Ph.D app?"

KORG Volca FM Editor Template for Lemur

This one in via -midisexual. As the Volca FM loads Yamaha DX7 sysex for it's patches, this editor should work as a realtime controller for synths that support the DX7 sysex format including the Yamaha TX7 and DX200.  Hopefully Korg will open the Volca FM to realtime editing as well.

"I saw a few days ago that there was a post on an update to PatchBase [posted here] for editing the Volca FM. I just finished remixing an older Lemur template so that it can edit the Volca FM. I think readers of the site will be interested as:

It is free to Lemur owners, and open source for further tweaking.

Allows generation of random patches for editing

Can load patches from another midi source for editing before sending to the Volca FM (which is important as the Volca FM does not have midi out).

Clavia Nord Beat 2, Liine Lemur, Roland SC-880 Demo by Jordan Passmore

Published on Mar 14, 2014 Jordan Passmore·71 videos

iTunes: Nord Beat 2 - Clavia DMI | Lemur - Liine

"Here is a demo of the Clavia Nord Beat 2 drum sequencer app, Liine Lemur MIDI control app (running MonoSequencer) and the Roland SC-880 Synthesizer. The Clavia is sequencing the SC-880's TR-707 drum part, Lemur is controlling a bass patch on the SC-880 and finally, I am playing some crystalline chords on the SC-880. No effects except some Dimension D on the chords and a simple delay on the bassline (both courtesy of the SC-880's own internal effects). All the apps are being ran off an iPad Mini, 1st gen.

This jam turned out sounding kind of like some mellow-ish early 90's house."

The original.

"Stock description:
the Lemur Input Device is a highly customizable multi-touch device from French company JazzMutant, which serves as a controller for musical devices such as synthesizers and mixing consoles, as well as for other media applications such as video performances. As an audio tool, the Lemur's role is equivalent to that of a MIDI controller in a MIDI studio setup, except that the Lemur uses theOpen Sound Control (OSC) protocol, a high-speed networking replacement for MIDI. The controller is especially well-suited for use with Reaktor and Max/MSP, tools for building custom software synthesizers "
