White ARP Odyssey MKI 2800 Lumina Sliders w/ Several Mods

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

"Arp Odyssey (2800) Lumina. heavily modified by Phil Cirocco of Discrete Synthesizers/CMS (best Arp tech in the states, maybe world). Phil did the lumina mod so the sliders are 100% functional, LED-modded and AWESOME. Phil also did all the mods you see: LFO free run switch, ext audio in, CV/Gate/VCF inputs, highpass/bandpass switch and ADSR time/range extension switch. he also overhauled it, leveled the keybed, general maintenance, etc. awesome awesome condition. minor little marks here and there (hey, it's almost 50 years old!) but nothing major. the mods alone were $1800."

Snippets of Lumina controlling 208C on first test session.

Published on Nov 14, 2019 Joel Davel

"Putting the 208C 208MIDI daughtercard through it's paces just after getting the program. Rough cuts, but shareable enough for those interested in the possibilities (Timbre on blue mallet, mod amount on yellow mallet, red and green mallet notes add to pitch of the two oscillators that are played by the blue and yellow mallets that are acting as keyboard input.)"

Introducing THE CMS 2607 - An ARP 2600 on Steroids

As you know, CMS (Cirocco Music Systems) is Phil Cirocco's synth company. He is not only the world's most renown ARP tech (BTW, see my CMS Lumina upgraded Odyssey here!), but also a manufacturer. THE CMS 2607 is his latest creation. Knowing it comes from him, you know this is going to be one great synth.

The following are some details via CMS:

"THE CMS 2607 6U RACK MOUNT INTEGRATED SYNTHESIZER

CMS is proud to unveil for the first time, our new synthesizer, the CMS 2607. We took all the features of the original ARP 2600, combined them with our world famous upgrades, added more cool stuff and then squeezed it all into a 6 space rack mount heavy duty enclosure. This particular incarnation is the '2500 version' that features a beautiful heavy duty brushed aluminum front panel. We are also currently making standard versions using grey and blue paint similar to the original ARP 2600 factory color schemes.

Initially, a very small quantity of special issue handmade 2607s will be made available to the general public until the factory produced models are available. These will be priced higher than the factory made mass produced units.

Price for one of the hand-made limited edition $8699.00. (9,499.00 for units with early type VCOs) plus packing and shipping charges.

Target price for the standard version 2607 will be 4999.00 USD . The standard version is not available at this time but we will soon be taking orders on the standard version. This price is subject to change. Check back with this page if you are interested in the standard version and can wait.

If you are interested in ordering one of the special issue limited edition 2607s now, send a paypal deposit of $3000.00 USD to filter@discretesynthesizers.com to register your order or mail us a personal check. Delivery guaranteed to be no longer than 4 months from the date of deposit. There is a limit on how many of these special order units that will be available for 2016, so contact us now if you are seriously interested.."

ARP Odyssey 2800 with CMS Lumina Upgrade & Raggedy Ann for Christmas

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

I don't think Raggedy Ann comes with the listing.  She looks happy though.

"This auction is for an ARP Odyssey model 2800 in very good condition that has been recently restored to ARP factory specs by Phil Cirocco at CMS / Discrete Synthesizers. It features the Lumina slider upgrade (special 4 color edition), just in time to brighten up the under-tree display on Christmas morning! Here is the complete List: Lumina Slider Upgrade - special 4 color edition – see photos 34 high quality illuminated slide pots. The main focus of this upgrade is to install high quality sliders in an ARP Odyssey. The Odyssey and Avatar have similar circuitry to the 2600, however they used cheap, unreliable, plastic on plastic sliders. These brand new, high quality sliders from CMS feature a superior tactile feel and greatly improved accuracy. It basically transforms an unreliable old doorstop into a precision instrument, on par with the ARP 2600 and ARP 2500. The difference in reliability and accuracy is astonishing! The upgrade also features a blinking LFO slider indicating the LFO rate. The ADSR and AR sliders now feature dynamic LED readout of the envelope generator voltage levels. All Keyboard rubber bushings replaced with new and keyboard detailing. All key contacts cleaned and adjusted. Power supply rebuilt to factory. Separate power supply for slider LEDs. Audio Path Upgrade. Highpass filter bypass switch – Adds sub-bass to the output signal. LFO free run switch. ADSR time range switch – 3 position toggle features extra long time mode. AR time range switch – 3 position toggle features extra long time mode. New pitch bend knob. Front panel and internal restoration. Full calibration. Rear panel: CMS high speed interface jacks – CV, Gate and trigger ins and outs. ¼ inch Switchcraft high level output jack. ¼ inch Switchcraft external audio input jack. 4023 filter Merry Christmas!"

Buchla Lightning MIDI controller with 2 wands

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

"The very rare MIDI controller was designed and hand built by synethizer pioneer Don Buchla in 1991. The BUCHLA LIGHTNING is a unique MIDI controller that senses the position and movement of handheld wands and transforms this information to MIDI signals for expressive control of electronic musical instruments. The full set of pictures can be found here

Don Buchla stopped making synthesizers between 1990 and 2000 and started making amazing and unique MIDI controllers. These included the Lightning, the Thunder control surface, the Piano Bar, and the Marimba Lumina. This model here, the first Lightning, was the start of this journey.

First produced in 1991, I bought this unit (serial # 1037) from the original owner in 1993 with the original infra-red rings. I then bought a pair of brand new, upgraded "wands" from Don Buchla in 1998. (The rings no longer work and are not included in the sale.) Don Buchla himself gave this unit a tune-up (replacing batteries, etc) in 2003. I have used it carefully and sparingly. I just tested it today and it works like a charm. This package includes the Lightning itself, two (left/right) "wands," the original manual, and the power supply. Oh, also the original box it came in, with Buchla's return address on it (a PO box).

Please note that this is the original LIGHTNING, not the Lightning II or III, and is strictly a midi controller. This unit does NOT make any sound on it's own but can control any midi instrument or software synth via midi. It can work with any MIDI hardware instrument, any computer (with a MIDI to USB cable) and even an iOS devise (with the right connectors).

The bulk of LIGHTNING's electronics is housed in a metal cabinet designed to be mounted on a standard mike stand in front of a performer. Based on principles of optical triangulation, LIGHTNING gathers its information by tracking tiny infrared transmitters that are built into baton-like wands. Unencumbered by wires, these wands provide complete freedom of movement within a performance space.

Basically, LIGHTNING senses the horizontal and vertical position of each hand, for a total of four independent coordinates. From this information, LIGHTNING’s digital signal processor computes instantaneous velocity and acceleration, and performs detailed analysis of gesture. An easily mastered, musically oriented interface language allows the user to define relationships between various gestures and potential musical responses.

Frankly, it's not often you find a piece of electronic music gear that works great AND will increase in value. I am offering free shipping to the 48 contiguous states."

New AMSynths Athena ARP Odyssey Clone

It looks like AMSynths, maker of various synth clone modules, is coming out with a full ARP Odyssey Clone.

via AMSynths, via electro-music.com

"The Athena Synthesizer is a complete analog synthesizer inspired by the ARP Odyssey. Two VCO’s with ring modulation drive a 4075 style 4-pole Low Pass Filter, which is connected to a final VCA with ADSR and AR envelopes. Noise, S&H and a LFO complete the configuration. The synthesizer is analog with CV inputs for keyboard CV, gate and trigger - there is no MIDI. The Athena is based on one large single PCB which contains the analog circuits and all the sliders and switches. It mounts to a powder coated and silk screened steel front panel designed by AMSynths.

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

"ARP Odyssey MkII - was black and gold - restored,

Fully paint stripped, re-powerder coated in white.

Re-screen printed, with subtle grey ARP logo across whole front panel (hard to see in photo).
Work by Customsynth

All sliders are new. These are Lumina LED sliders as you can see.

PSU has been serviced

Horrible mains cable out the rear has been replaced with a better, safer, and neater IEC socket.

CV/Gate/VCF sockets on the rear for MIDI-CV converter control (converter not provided!)

All working well, only minor issue is PPC range is very small, and one non-original slide switch (which works fine so don't worry)"

ARP Odyssey MkIII - Lumina Upgrade, Dual VCF (4023/4035), LFO Aftertouch

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction - learn how to sell on eBay here

"It's recently been upgraded with the CMS Lumina slider kit (beautiful silky smooth action - all high quality Bourns PTL45 series LED Sliders). The LFO slider LED lights up as a visual indicator to the frequency, and the AR/ADSR slider LED's glow according to what the output voltage is.

It's also been retro fitted with aftertouch for LFO control of VCOs 1 & 2, and most intriguingly, a dual switchable VCF!

The original 4075 VCF module has been replaced with the 40235 Dual Filter (Google it) which consists of the MkI "White Face" Odyssey 12dB VCF and the MkII "Moog Infringement" 24dB VCF - the switch on the right hand side of the keyboard allows you to select between them.

The Keyboard bushings have also been replaced, as have the leather side panels. The main audio outputs have been swapped... the high level output is now on the jack socket and the low level out on the XLR.

I've never been happy with the gold "J-Wire" contacts under the keybed, and at some point they will need to be realigned/replaced (it was next on my "to do" list) - occasionally, when playing duophonically, the upper voice output to VCO 2 will glitch, but this is a common problem with the MKII & III Odysseys..."

Donald Buchla Performance / Q&A:
Friday September 13, 7-10
with: Sarah Davachi and Richard Smith

In 1963, Berkeley-based designer and instrument builder Donald Buchla began constructing his first electronic musical instruments. This year celebrates the 50thanniversary of his pioneering and highly innovative contributions to the field of electronic music, and New Forms Festival is very excited to welcome Mr. Buchla to Vancouver for what is sure to be a highly-anticipated performance at VIVO Media Arts Centre. This historic event will also feature an extensive exhibition of the most complete collection of Buchla instruments in existence, offering the public a unique and extremely rare opportunity to experience the union of the maker and his creations.

Reflecting a background in music, physics, and physiology, Buchla’s approaches to instrument design and sonic experimentation are known for being multi-faceted and highly inventive, particularly in relation to his interest in interfaces that bridge the communicative gap between man and machine. His work includes early voltage-controlled systems such as the 100 and 200 modular series, the Music Easel performance system, digital-analog hybrids such as the Touché, gesture-controlled instruments such as the Lightning, Thunder, and Marimba Lumina, and his most recent project, the 200e Electric Music Box. He has worked with storied institutions and organizations such as the California Institute of the Arts, the San Francisco Tape Music Center, and New York’s Electric Circus, and has collaborated with a number of prominent experimental musicians including David Rosenboom, Suzanne Ciani, Morton Subotnick, George Lewis, Anthony Braxton, and David Wessel."
