Moog Taurus II Bass Synthesizer with Pedals

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

"Moog Taurus II. You know it, you love it. It's a Moog Rogue with an expansive, easy organ-pedal-style foot controller. Floyd, Rush, Yes, Genesis...Super deep thick bass or space jams as you wish. I just saw Brett Netson play one of these with Earth the other month.

The pictures show you the whole deal. Works great, all cabling, newish proper power supply. Pedals all work, electronics all work. No stand, but it's just a pipe and easily replaceable...personally I did not need or want the stand; I just put the synth module on top of an amp.

You can buy Rick Wakeman's elsewhere online for $8k or pay much less for mine! Local pickup in Chicago is fine, no fee for that, will meet up if you can get reasonably close."

Relive the '90s with the Roland JD800: Factory Presets

video upload by Andy Whitmore

"Roland JD-800 - ALL FACTORY PRESETS

The Roland JD-800 is a digital synthesizer that was manufactured between 1991 and 1996. It features many knobs and sliders for patch editing and performance control — features that some manufacturers, including Roland, had been omitting in the name of streamlining since the inception of the Yamaha DX7. The JD-800 thus became very popular with musicians who wished to take a hands-on approach to patch programming. The introduction in the manual states that Roland's intention with the JD-800 was to "return to the roots of synthesis".

Technology
The JD-800 employs Linear Arithmetic synthesis (introduced and made famous by the Roland D-50), which combines sample playback with digital synthesis. The JD-800 has 108 built-in waveforms, which can be expanded via PCM cards. The waveforms span a variety of categories such as analog synthesizers, acoustic instruments, and voices. Many of these waveforms are very short and are used primarily for the attack portion of a sound, while longer ones are used for the sustained part of a sound. The JD-800 was Roland's first instrument to have its core presets developed entirely in the United States, under a short-lived branch of its R&D-LA office in Culver City, California. The core sampled waveforms and factory presets of the JD-800 were created by Eric Persing.

A patch, or single sound, in the JD-800 consists of up to four tones. As every tone consists of an almost completely independent synthesizer voice, a patch could be considered a combination of up to four different synthesizers. In Single mode the JD-800 plays one patch at a time, but in Multi mode it is possible to play five different patches over MIDI, plus a "special" patch. The special patch has different waveforms assigned to the 61 different keys on the keyboard, so is used for drums and percussion sounds. The JD-800 has one effects section. In Single mode, seven effects can be used simultaneously, in series, so all tones in a patch go through the same effects. In Multi mode, three effects can be used at the same time, with all patches sharing the same effects, though any of the patches can be routed to bypass the effects.

Korg Prophecy Physical Modeling Synthesizer Preset Demos

video uploads by Old Korg MaCross

The Prophecy was one of the first synthesizers that made a real breakthrough in the music of the 90s of the twentieth century. A modern digital instrument with all the advantages of this solution, which sounds like a real, classic analog, without its disadvantages!

The Prophecy Solo Synthesizer was introduced in 1995. It is a monophonic instrument with DSP synthesis first developed for the Korg OASYS synthesizer. Synthesis is distinguished by algorithms for creating realistic analog timbres, VPM (Variable Phase Modulation) tones similar to FM synthesis, and physically modeled brass, reed and plucked instruments. Wind instruments sound sensational in it. Additionally, many programmable parameters can be controlled in real time: filter cutoff and resonance, envelopes and arpeggiator. An interesting solution is to use, apart from the pitch and mod wheel, an expressive double-action ribbon wheel. The instrument has six effects processors!
Used by many musicians (especially jazz)

It was used by, among others: Apollo 440, Depeche Mode, Download, Jan Hammer, Joe Zawinul, Kobe, Meat Mirwais, Orbital, Pet Shop Boys, Radio Head, Theatre, The Prodigy, Radio Head, Rick Wakeman, Yes, Joe Zawinul. A great, intuitive, modern, still great-sounding synthesizer for techno, electronic, dance, jazz music. You can write that it is an element of the synthesizer from the OASIS workstation and a less developed synthesizer from the Z1.

Polyphony - Monophonic
Oscillators - Physical Modeling
LFO - 4 LFOs, 30 Waveforms, Real-Time Modulation, 0-60Hz
Filter - Voice Filter: Resonant Low/Hi/Band/Notch
VCA - 4 envelopes
Keyboard - 37 keys (with velocity & aftertouch)
Arpeg/Seq - Arpeggiator: Programmable, Sends/Receives MIDI Clock
Control - MIDI
Date Produced - 1995

Minimoog-style Lead Sounds - Inspired by Rick Wakeman, Keith Emerson, & the sounds of the seventies

video upload by AJH Synth Official

"These are just sound examples, but I am not a keyboardist, so please don't expect any Rick Wakeman/Keith Emerson keyboard wizardry. The intention is just to illustrate the kind of tones that can be created with the basic MiniMod voice in Minimoog configuration (Glide, 3 VCO's, Ladder Filter, etc), along with some overdrive/distortion from driving the audio levels hard.

Generally, input levels significantly beyond 12 O'clock (50%) on the Ladder Filter or Discrete Cascaded VCA should start to apply more overdrive to the audio from the VCO's or other Eurorack level signals. This will noticeably change the character of the sound at extreme settings.

The GAIN SWITCH module is also used a couple of times here, as it conveniently activates the high-gain mode featured on both the Transistor Ladder Filter & Discrete Cascaded VCA modules, which is otherwise set by jumpers on the rear of the modules. Using the Gain Switch just means you don't need to pop the module out to enable/disable the feature. Audio-rate modulation of VCO3 from VCO1 is added at a couple of points... just because it sounds good, not necessarily because it was commonly used in famous lead sounds.

Rick Wakeman has famously used the Minimoog throughout his career, whereas Keith Emerson is equally associated with the Moog modular system that preceded it. Since the AJH Synth MiniMod system is directly based on the early, more desirable R.A.Moog version of the Minimoog, whilst also being fully modular, this makes it an excellent choice for recreating the sounds of those original, iconic instruments, and going way beyond it in the world of Eurorack.

Synth Jam 85 - Behringer Deepmind 12 & Moog Sub 37

video upload by Marcus Padrini

Moog Sub 37 / Subsequent patches Vol 2 (free download)

video upload by Marcus Padrini

"6 years ago (time that passes frighteningly fast), with just over 30 days playing with the Moog Sub 37, I posted a video bringing a free bank with some patches I programmed. It's about time to share some more sounds created on this fantastic synth!

So here's my new patch bank for Sub 37 and Subsequent 37, which combine versions of patches from bands I've always liked or played and totally original sounds, demonstrating different Sub 37 features!

Download: https://tinyurl.com/sub37v2

In the video, the first version is always without any effect. The second version of each patch can feature chorus, reverb and delay. All fx processed by Zoom MS70CDR!

Tom Sweep - Sub 37 version for this classic Rush patch
Aquatarkus 1 - Based on timbres from live ELP recordings
Aquatarkus 2 - Based on the original recording
Hoedown - Sub 37 version of this classic ELP intro
Lead Duo - exploring the duophonic side
3D Space - different modulations for a more rhythmic tone
Blade intro - Sub 37 version of the classic by Vangelis
Delle Fate - based on the beautiful Italian prog band lead
From the beginning - Modular adaptation to Sub 37 of the ELP classic
Ice - inspired by the lead from the classic Camel band
ResoDistort - drive, paraphony and resonance for this ideal tone for diverse solos.
Rick in the 70s - daring to create a version of Wakeman's classic, using the 6db filter slope
Lady Fantasy - classic arpeggio by Camel
Random Increment - fun with the sequencer
S&H Sequence - Sequence with Modulations and Sample & Hold"

Moog Minimoog Model D Vintage Analog Synthesizer (1978) - no reissue - | Synth HQ DEMO & TUTORIAL

Published on Apr 11, 2020 Andy Whitmore

2016 re-issue demo below.

"Moog Minimoog Analog Synthesizer (1978)

The demo video shows some famous sound patches from the original Minimoog used by Keith Emerson, Rick Wakeman and other guys.

The Minimoog Model D. This is the synth that started it all; it brought synthesis out of the laboratory and onto the stage, giving performing musicians access to the iconic synths sounds we know and love today. You’ve undoubtedly heard this classic three-oscillator monophonic synth, although you may not be aware of it.

Andy Whitmore started life as a top session keyboard player playing on over 50 hit records before turning his hand to music production. He went on to produce 14 top ten hits. He is a pro when it comes to synthesizers, and here explores the Minimoog as part of a brand new series.
One of the most iconic synthesizers ever, Andy’s experience with this Moog classic dates back to the mid-‘90s, and he discusses the basics in his exploration of what makes the Minimoog so great.

Filmed at https://www.greystokestudio.com in West London using an Apple iPhone 11 Max 512gb"

Check out a tour of his synth collection back in 2009 here, and 2008 here.

Minimoog Model D Reissue – 2016 - Sounds | Synth HQ DEMO & TUTORIAL

Published on Apr 11, 2020 Andy Whitmore

"Everyone says it, but it's true. This is the finest synthesizer ever built. As the LFO Rate knob by the pitch/mod wheels hints, this is the 2016 reissue Model D. The mother of all synths really doesn't need any introduction. You already know the sound so I didn't get too crazy with this video. By no means is this a complex synth, but like a Fender Precision bass, it does what it does extremely well. It simply has a thickness and warmth that few others can touch. R.I.P. Dr. Bob Moog.

What sets this synth apart from the vintage Minimoog is the Midi Implementation which is totally up to date & makes this a much more useable synth in the studio.
One issue with the Vintage Moog is that the midi only goes down to C1 – so to get lower notes through midi – I used to pitch bend the synth down 4 semi tones – then put a transpose on the computer & re-tune it – what a faff!!!"

Behringer Introduces the POLY D - 4 Voice Paraphonic Polyphonic Minimoog Keyboard Synthesizer

Published on Nov 24, 2019 BEHRINGER

Apparently Behringer is on Amazon now.

Update2: Playlist with three user videos (you can skip around on the top right or bottom left):

Sonic Lab: Behringer Poly D! - sonicstate
Behringer Poly D -solo sonidos / only sounds - FutureMusic.es
Behringer POLY D - MrFirechild
Behringer POLY D: Review, Tutorial and Patch Ideas // Auto-damp explained - loopop

Update: post updated with larger pics. Click them for the detail.

Note the POLY D is more like a Mono/Poly in how you stack/route the oscillators. There are 4 VCOs, so you can set them to trigger one at a time for 4 voice paraphonic polyphony. Paraphonic in that they share the same filter, envelopes, etc. You can't have a fully separate voice with independent filters, envelopes, etc like on a truly polyphonic synth. This is not a Memormoog or Moon One. That said, it is a step ahead of a standard Minimoog - 4 vs 3 VCOs with the ability to play paraphonically. If it's light enough, you might even be able to kick back on a couch with it. An original Minimoog on the lap would get heavy fast.

Side note: Apparently Behringer is on Amazon now.

Details from Behringer:

"Analog 4-Voice Polyphonic Synthesizer with 37 Full-Size Keys, 4 VCOs, Classic Ladder Filter, LFO, BBD Stereo Chorus, Distortion, 32-Step Sequencer and Arpeggiator"

The 1970s spawned the first truly portable analog synthesizer, and while it was quickly adopted by lots of renowned musical artists including Jan Hammer, Chick Corea, Rick Wakeman, Jean-Michel Jarre, Isao Tomita and Keith Emerson to name a few, it was somewhat temperamental and very expensive. An ultra-affordable homage to that iconic synthesizer, with all the features of the original and then some, the Behringer POLY D lets you conjure up virtually any monophonic or polyphonic sound imaginable with incredible finesse and ease. The pure analog signal path is based on authentic VCO, VCF, VCA and ladder filter designs in conjunction with a dedicated and fully analog triangle/square wave LFO. Owning a POLY D is like having your own personal time machine, enabling you to freely embrace the past – or shape the future!
