Willow's Song (Hammer sandwich mix) - with theremin

YouTube Uploaded by SpacedogTelevisor on Jul 1, 2008

"A live performance of Spacedog's latest set at the Blank Gallery, Brighton, June 2008. As seen at the Sanctuary, Brighton Festival Fringe, 2008. This number samples the Hammer classic The Devil Rides Out (1968), mixing it with Willow's Song from that other British occult classic The Wicker Man (Paul Giovanni, 1973). Mind control courtesy the hypnotic voice of the great Charles Gray. The very first sample is from a 1950s Parakeet training record.

The lineup: Jenny Angliss, Sarah Angliss, Mike Blow, Ben Kypreos and Colin Uttley.

For anyone interested in the technical details: The Hammer samples you are hearing are being scrubbed (i.e. speed controlled) live using the theremin. Sarah (the thereminist) has devised a Max/MSP patch that enables her to do so - this also scrubs the video live. Mike (in the green tee-shirt) is cueing in the samples as the song progresses. As the lighting in the gallery wasn't suitable for projection, we've added our usual visuals onto this film, during the edit.

Jamming with Clara 2.0 the theremin playing robot doll

YouTube Uploaded by SpacedogTelevisor on Nov 3, 2007

"Named in honour of the original theremin virtuoso Clara Rockmore, Clara 2.0 is a robot doll who can play the theremin live. I call her the 'polite robot thereminist' as she listens to a line from another player and moves her dolly arm to get her own theremin in perfect tune. Well, that's the theory...

In this jamming session, Clara 2.0 is copying a line from an old Roland SH-2 synth (which I play silently), then the line from my own theremin. When the two theremins play together, it gets quite chaotic as Clara tries to follow me - and I try to lock into Clara's line.

As Clara 2.0 is continually monitoring a live sound and adjusting her tuning (no midi here), her technique has the fluid pitch of a human player. Everything on this recording - apart from the drum track - is played live. There is no manipulation of the recorded sound, apart from multitracking and a little reverb after the event. The keyboard instrument at the beginning is a cheapy toy, called an Angel Organ - I hope you can forgive its cranky tuning. The final theremin melody has been treated, live, with an old-school vocal flanger.

Clara is under continual development - she has quite a way to go before she can claim the talents of Lev (a great robot player). Keen-eyed observers may have noticed the wobbily thread of wire on the end of Clara's egg whisk. This gives her some Rockmoresque vibrato.

I do attempt to incorporate Clara 2.0 into my stage act although she can be temperamental. Recently, I've been trying to improve her earthing and capacitance so she can be set up swiftly and can work more reliably 'out of the box'.

Thanks to everyone at Dorkbot London and the Hands off Festival, 2007, for their encouragement and useful tips. In particular, I'd like to thank theremin maker Jake Rothman for his extremely useful electrical advice (Clara's insides are now lined with silver foil) and Gordon Charlton, whose virtuosic egg whisk numbers inspired Clara's current look. Thanks also to Emmet Spier for screwing her arms on better, Mike Blow for suggesting I try out this classic tune and Colin Uttley for playing the bass riff. Apologies to the great Roy Budd, composer of the jaw-droppingly gorgeous Get Carter theme.

Empty Your Brain (in half the time) new&improved

YouTube Uploaded by stomachlining on Jun 27, 2011

"New & Improved....Now you can empty your brain in half the time. The old Empty Your Brain was almost 10 minutes long.... in most cases I found when it came to emptying my brain it was the "quicker the better" scenerio I was after ... but 10 min... come on... something had to be done... so I went to work on getting the vid cut down without dimishing the effectiveness of brain emptying. So with the help of the Synthi, in just 5 minutes you can empty your brain. Enjoy. The AKS sequence was altered with the speed dial & transposition pads on the KS keyboard. Synthi A is also sequenced by the Doepfer MAQ16/3 (@1v/oct) ...Thanks to Vy Fie on MAM VF11 vocoder...& to my mates at the Beijing Drum Tower for letting me film them. Now this is my how to video, in this case... HOW TO BE HAPPY. In my search for happiness I noticed one thing always stood in my way of it.... my brain... with its endless tape loops playing over and over... from parents to siblings, spouses, teachers, & tv talkingheads, all fighting for space in my brain,...but my mind... that was OK... Mind is tuned in to the nonverbal OM of the universe. I'm better off operating out of that corner of the galaxy....Yeah, shut that brain up...because Empty Your Brain & the Mind Will Come"

Geoff Hood/GOSH in Sync with Innerclock Systems

via Innerclock

“I bought a Sync-Lock after discovering the Innerclock Systems website from a forum link! I bought it from Schneidersladen whilst on holiday in Berlin – my girlfriend and mates thought I was mad spending money on a clock! It’s changed my music-making life though. I got so annoyed with sloppy clock from Ableton/Cubase (and every other program i used). It would never work consistently. One day it would work briefly, the next day not even close. The Sync-Lock has changed that…totally. The precision Midi Clock goes to my Motu Midi Express XT where it’s then split into the Cirklon and the rest of the studio. Set and forget. And the new Sync-Gen II plug-in rules!

In combination with my hardware sequencers that now run in perfect sync with my DAW, I’ve got the ultimate combination of hardware and software integration – whenever I want!” – Geoff Hood/28th June 2011 http://soundcloud.com/gosh-acid

Variations on Incontri di Fasce Sonore

Variations on Incontri di Fasce Sonore from Giorgio Sancristoforo on Vimeo.

"Incontri di fasce sonore is one of Franco Evangelisti masterpieces.
Recorded in 1957 at WDR, Cologne, it is one of the classic scores of the integral serial music era.

This is a preliminary study to investigate the possibility of playing 1950s serial music with the Buchla synthesizer and Max/MSP.

I've programmed 315 mixtures of 7 sinusoidal tones in Max/MSP
carefully following the score's instructions,
then I've played them freely in the Buchla, creating a variation piece.

• Sound generation: MAX/MSP

• Music interface, amplification, spatialization, ring modulation, frequency shifting: Buchla 200e

• Reverb: Jomox T-Resonator

• Reverse mixtures & reverb: EHX2880

all realtime, no edits."
