Introducing the ISLA Instruments KordBot

ChordBot - A quick teaser Published on Jan 15, 2016 ISLA Instruments

"While we are producing the full video for the KickStarter campaign launching in mid Feb 2016, we thought we'd take a couple of minutes out to have some fun with ChordBot and tease you with a couple of it's features!."

A few details and images sent in via ISLA Instruments:

"Chordbot is a midi controller device that gives the user 1000s of chords at their fingertips, to play directly into any midi capable device over midi, usb, and also bluetooth. The keys also illuminate the fingerings of chords so it teaches the user how to play chords for themselves. It's also a full featured arpeggiator with many different modes and a 32 step sequencer."

"This is a heavily modified version of the Alesis HR-16 drum machine from the late 80s/90s. I have developed my own custom PCB board to house all the modifications I carry out and to keep the design clean and robust.

I will also consider swaps/trades for gear that interests me, dead or alive.. ask me... :)

Most notable features added are:
Ability to quickly replace sound bank chips using the quick release sockets mounted to the top of the unit (compatible with any of the soundbanks I have in my other listings)
Full LTC1799 Pitch Modification, allowing you to change the overall pitch of the whole machine (can go SUUUUUPER slow (a snare can last around 7seconds) ) and also around 20% higher in pitch. It's also worth noting that all sounds can individually pitched/tuned also as standard. It makes for great turntable style slow downs etc.

Updatable STEREO DSP FX System, including Low and High Pass filters, Bitcrush, reverb, delays etc. Used in conjunction with the multiple outputs makes the machine super powerful. Endless fun or just use it to make the sounds a little dirtier..

Gorgeous solid walnut side panels really set the look of the machine off.

Dork 14 melodies. A 90 BPM patch for eurorack modular synthesizer.

Published on Jan 15, 2016 Luke Killen

"A short and simple melodic track jammed from a patch that i made today. The melodies and bass drum are kept simple to offset the complex percussive elements.
Part i: A Mutable Instruments Braids running through two channels of a Sputnik Quad VCF/VCA and is pitch sequenced by a makenoise Rene.

Part ii: Hi-pass output of an Epoch Modular Benjolin with it's VCO A modulated heavily by a SSF Ultra-Random Analogue set to a very high rate and output level (white noise). MakeNoise Maths is acting as a voltage controllable EG for this part and has it's rise and fall modulated by a 4ms PEG that has it's division modulated by an LFO from an Abstract DATA ADE32. the triggers from this are coming from two channels of a Delphtronics Triggerman as well as a 4MS QCD which is modulated by one channel of the 4MS PEG. these three trigger sources are switch between one and other using a Doepfer A151 voltage controlled switch.

part iii: a kick drum made with a Noise engineering Basimilus Iteratus with it's pitch being modulated by a Frequency central envelope X set to a very short attack and decay.

Part iv: A melodic plink made from a WMD/SSF Spectrum passed through a Doepfer A106-5 SEM LPF filter modulated in frequency by a Tiptop Z4000 EG which also modulates the Linix VCA that it passes through.

Part v: A textural sample playing on a Music Thing Radio Music. the sample has the start cropped off it to become more textural than percussive.

Reverb and Delay are applied as needed per voice in my DAW as the audio comes in live."
