DSI PRO 2 FM BELLS SOUND DESIGN TUTORIAL ~ Synthesize This! Ep.05

Published on Dec 30, 2016 once upon a synth

"Let's try to synthesize bell sounds on the DSI Pro 2 synthesizer. Synthesizing a bell sound involves simulating the response of a metallic object. The best way to achieve this by utilizing frequency modulation. In this patch we get both large church bells as wells as little bells like a glockenspiel.

Live from the Redwoods! Euclidean Teletype Workout with O-Coast and Moog Mother-32

Published on Dec 30, 2016 Dudadius

"Exploring the Euclidean Rhythm command on Monome Teletype.

This is my holiday travel rig, with Moog Mother-32 and Makenoise O-Coast. Synth Tech E330 Multimode VCO and Dsting round out this focused little system.

O-Coast is playing the initial pattern, driven by euclidean rhythm 1. There is a second euclidean rhythm hitting the trigger in on the slope generator, creating a poly-rhythm of sorts in that one voice.

The notes are defined in tracker 1, but tracker 2 contains some additional notes that are inserted into the pattern at pseudo-random intervals. Sounds like it’s happening at a set rhythm though…hmmm.

The second voice to come in is the same melodic pattern, but offset by a few steps. The is playing the Synthtech VCO that is routed through the Moog. The Moog VCA is hit by yet another Euclidean Rhythm, then it goes back into the O-Coast and is modulated by that original rhythm as well…so another interlocking rhythm. Dsting is in clocakble delay mode on that voice.

Lastly, the Moog comes in on a slower moving bass voice..playing the same notes at a slower rate.

Once the bass comes up, I shift the O-Coast melody up a couple of octaves."

"A short clip of a weekend getaway with the VICMOD crew in the Macedon Ranges.

It was a really fun weekend, plenty of laughs, lots of nice setups to check out, sharing of synth tips and whatnot.

The audio overdubbed is some of the live sound art noodlings of the group from the weekend. If interested you can check it out in full here (thanks Grant!) - https://soundcloud.com/grant-atkinson..."

"The Classic MKS80 Rev 4/ Very rare and sought after. Better then Rev 5.

Includes the Programmer that turns this to a whole different beast...

This synth is the pinnacle of Analog Roland sound in Multi voice on one hand and a very intricate midi programmability of all parameters on the other hand.
No other synth by Roland incorporates such a Marriage..

Great condition."

Kawai K5000W Synthesizer w/ Rare MCB Knob Box & Upgraded Display

"Here we have a Kawai K5000W with Knob original Kawai MCB knob box. These are extremely fun and roundly well regarded with good reason. The Kawai K5000 has amazing sounds on board, and editing options are very deep. There also exists a K5000S, which includes the knobs on the machine itself. The K5000W, geared more towards composers, adds an onboard sequencer with 40,000 note capacity and 40 tracks, which is extremely intuitive and useful, as well as a rear panel "MIDI B" section (second in/out/thru), though sacrifices the knobs. This, of course, meant that consumers had to decide whether to forego the knobs or the sequencer, which is a difficult decision. So Kawai took pity on us and manufactured the MCB Macro Control Box, which allows us to have a K5000W without giving up the knobs on the K5000S. These are extremely difficult to find at this point, and this one has been maintained in near mint condition. There is some evidence of use around the knobs themselves in the right light.

The synth has been upgraded to OS 3.01. This is the most stable OS available, according to my contact at Kawai. This may seem like a small deal given that updates are still available online from Kawai, though unless you have a spare computer sitting around running Windows from the 90's, it is by no means a given that the update will work properly. This is why I have a "contact at Kawai."

I have upgraded the display. The original display was working, but had begun to dim a bit, and the new one looks fantastic."

Novation Circuit Review by BBoy Tech Report

"Novation Circuit is Novation's stand alone synth groove box. Novation Circuit is comprised of 2 six-voice Nova heritage synths and a 4 voice drum machines. There are 64 presets for each synth and 64 drum sound presets for the drum machine. It's a great little groovebox and when all is said and done, its down right fun!"

Deepmind 12 - Menu Diving?

Published on Dec 30, 2016 BBoy Tech Report

"I've heard a lot of concerns about the Deepmind 12's menu system and UI with regards to menu diving. There is some menu diving in the global section but otherwise the menu system is pretty shallow. I'll get more into this on the review but i figured a quick video on this would answer some questions in the meantime."

Sequencers & Synths with Ableton Operator and Analog

Published on Dec 30, 2016 mark williamson

"When getting to know a synth I find the best trick is to make a whole track with it. Didn't quite work for Operator since I wanted some analog sounds in this track too - so two synths for the price of one!

The only non-Ableton element is EchoBoy"
