New Audio Damage Quanta - Granular Soft Synth for AAX, AU, VST, VST3, and iOS

via Audio Damage

"We are very pleased to announce Quanta, our new synthesizer for AAX, AU, VST, VST3, and iOS. Quanta is a 10-voice granular synthesizer built around an incredibly easy-to-use and capable granular engine, with a 'sidecar' oscillator that can be used in addition to the granular source, or mixed in with it, or instead of it. Quanta has two multi-mode filters and a cross-platform preset mechanism, and can load AIFF, WAV, Ogg, FLAC, and MP3 format samples.

Modulation sources? Quanta's got 'em. Quanta features our new Flexible Envelope Generator (FEG), which is an arbitrary-length breakpoint generator with optional host tempo sync. Easily add and remove breakpoints, and set loop points and curves. These comically powerful envelope generators are essentially sequencers in their own right, and Quanta has four of them.

Quanta also has a pair of our new Flexible LFO, which made its first appearance in Discord4. The FLFO has, for all intents and purposes, an unlimited series of waveforms that are easily accessed via the SHAPE, SKEW, and WARP knobs.

Mod routing #easymode. Quanta has a full modulation matrix page; touch a knob and it instantly scrolls to that row, allowing you to easily and quickly direct modulation sources throughout the synth; virtually every control in the synth engine can be modded.

In addition, Quanta is fully MPE (MIDI Polyphonic Expression) capable, and owners of MPE controllers such as the Linnstrument, Haken Continuum, Roli Seaboard and Rise, and Madrona Labs Soundplane can utilize their full expression range.

Quanta for iOS is functionally identical to the desktop versions, and will be available as standalone and AUv3 (iPad only); presets created on the desktop can be used in the mobile version and vice-versa.

Setting aside the marketing-speak and bullet points for a moment, we'd just like to say that we're very proud of this instrument, which is the result of many months of research and development in both DSP and user interface methods, and the first product of this new chapter in the history of Audio Damage. Our goal was to try to make granular synthesis as easy to understand and use as subtractive, and to make it as musical and playable as possible. Whether we've succeeded or not is up to you folks to decide, of course, but we are really pleased with what we've come up with here, and are excited to show it to you.

Today (May 3rd, 2018) is the first day of Superbooth 18, and we'll have beta versions of both desktop and iOS Quanta on display for use, as well as a Roli Seaboard Rise and Linnstrument on hand to demonstrate the MPE capabilities. If you're in Berlin, please stop by and have a play. We do not have a final price or release date at this time; there are still some things we need to tighten up, and we won't be shipping Quanta until it is solid as a rock. With that said, it won't be long; more than a couple weeks, but less than a couple months, is our best guess."

Inside KOMA Elektronik HQ at Common Ground

Published on May 2, 2018 DivKidVideo

"To kick off the Modular Podcast footage at the 2018 Superbooth we went to KOMA Elektronik at their headquarters in Common Ground. Common Ground is a community, DIY build space, DIY kit shop, vintage synth collection and lots more. Woutr takes us on a tour around the public and private spaces involved with both the Common Ground shop front and the working spaces and staff at KOMA. The space is peppered with great books, modular systems, DIY projects, soviet era synths, broken synths users can buy and fix themselves and loads more.

We're proud to have our Superbooth 2018 content sponsored by www.thonk.co.uk"

Building a CV QUANTIZER with Arduino - 01

Published on May 2, 2018 Sbranvlztronics

"A CV quantizer with Arduino UNO (ATmega328) in its earlier stage of development. In this video the quantizer is doing its thing on two LFO waveforms. There is two independent CV inputs to be quantized, other parameters are voltage controlled also: scale choice, clock, tessitura (low and high note range for each CV input channel). Yet to be implemented are: synchronization with external clocks, MIDI output, if memory won't run out...

Enjoy

Dave Smith Instruments Prophet X Demos by Rozzer

"This is a compilation of parts from recordings I made when creating patches for the Prophet X synthesizer. I recorded much more, but edited down to the the best bits. There are no additional effects or processing. All effects are from the synth itself.

DISCLAIMER: There is no particular musicianship in these demos. They were recorded whilst patching mostly with one hand on the keyboard and the other hand tweaking knobs. The purpose of uploading is to give an idea of the tone, sound and character of the Prophet X as explored by one sound designer."

Official Stand Alone Software Editor for the Roland SE-02 Now Available

via Studio Electronics:

"The official Roland approved, Studio Electronics standalone editor for the SE-02 is once again the handiwork of SE Sound Designer and Coder, Emmanuel Santoul, developer of the software editors for the ATC, SE-1, and Omega Series synths. This inspiring cross-platform product affords full, real-time control, providing not only an intuitive GUI, enabling immediate access to all synth parameters, but also: full library management and auditioning, "Patch Blending," "Random Patch Generation," and edit and compare customization. Expressive features not standard on your synthesizer can now be explored, integrated, and perhaps most importantly, visualized—to simplify, and yet amplify your most detailed '02 sound designs and creative expressions. Translation: Music could happen.

In general, one can interact with the software in the same way you would with the front panel controls of this Boutique, but the seamless integration and coordination of the two closely interacting systems, real and virtual, massively increase the programmer’s grasp of the total signal, timbre, and control flow.

Switch programs, tweak sound parameters, or move to another bank: editor and hardware and editor settings will correspond; a contextual menu, with all features available, will be displayed by right-clicking the display. Copying and pasting, and rearranging your patches—a bear with just the box and your DAW in front of you—is now gentle on the mind, perhaps even enjoyable. Better still: saving and reloading banks (all within a few minutes) without disconnecting, power recycling, and reconnecting, as well as transcending and expanding the single User bank limitations is reason enough to get on board.

VSTi and Audio Unit scheduled later on in 2018. We are prioritizing the standalone app as we think this is better in line with the spirit of the SE-02, which is a table-top synth. Most of you Boutique-ers are now working this way—without DAWs; we see you.

Note: The app does not generate sound; it only address MIDI and SysEx data.
