Pittsburgh Modular Documentary Films Presents: the Voltage Research Laboratory - Episode 5

Published on Apr 18, 2019 Pittsburgh Modular Synthesizers

"Teaser track showcasing the unreleased Pittsburgh Modular Voltage Research Laboratory eurorack format synthesizer.
The soundtrack to this video was created as a self running patch. Once the initial setup was complete, the synthesizer performed the piece without any additional input by the artist. An extended version of the recording is available on Soundcloud through the link below."

Eurorack Interfaces // Receive 2 & Transmit 2 from Joranalogue Audio Design

Published on Apr 18, 2019 DivKidVideo

"Shout outs to the birds outside my house! (you'll see what I mean) ... I wanted to make this video to highlight something that's really simple but I think an important part of a modular system.

In the video I go through the Receive 2 (RX2) and Transmit 2 (TX2) from Joranalogue Audio Design. They are a dual balanced XLR/Jack input pre amp and a stereo balanced output and headphone amp. Having quality interfacing and gain staging throughout the studio/stage is important for ensuring things work properly. Yes plugging a pedal or keyboard right into a Eurorack system will probably work but you'll be closer to the noise floor and further away from the expected levels and behaviours of modules. That can lead to a varied and unsatisfactory experience a lot of the time. I also wanted to dangle a microphone outside of my house and process some real world sounds to create a foley texture and alien landscape excited and led by the suburban environment."

Jürgen Michaelis from Jomox - live at SchneidersLaden

Jürgen Michaelis from Jomox - live at SchneidersLaden from HerrSchneider on Vimeo.

"Jürgen Michaelis played a live performance for us during his workshop at SchneidersLaden. He brought the unique Resonator Neuronium to play alongside the Alpha Base and T-Resonator. After that he talked us through the interesting construction of and relation between the T-Resonator and Resonator Neuronium and answers questions from the audience. This time in German.

Noise Engineering Cursus Iteritas Percido, Terci Ruina, & Sinc Bucina Demos

Cursus Iteritas Percido wavetable oscillator with MASTER BLASTER demo

Published on Apr 17, 2019 Noise Engineering

See this post for details on each. Also see Noise Engineering at Synthplex.

6:53 Jam

Cursus Iteritas Percido is the second module in the Percido line of powerful synth voices. Similar to its predecessor the Loquelic Iteritas Percido, CIP takes the original Cursus Iteritas and adds the same musical envelope from LIP with attenuverter-controlled routing to every knob. With the inclusion of the performance-oriented Master Blaster and CV outputs, CIP is a powerhouse of incredibly versatile synthesis.

Terci Ruina demo - Distortion for modular synth in 4HP

Published on Apr 17, 2019 Noise Engineering

0:07 Quick demo
0:53 Panel and controls
2:33 Jam

Terci Ruina combines three classic distortions in 4 hp. Distortions are reinterpreted in classic NE style and routed through each other for complete sonic annihilation of any sound. Patch in and out anwyere in the signal chain to pick the best sound for your purpose (because modular). Looking for a pretty distortion? This is probably not your module. Unapologetically gross and dirty.

Sinc Bucina demo: VCA/VCF combo with resonant filter in 4HP

1:32 How to use voltage triggers
3:21 Jam

Sinc Bucina is the sequel to one of our first modules, Sinclastic Empulatrix, replacing the clamping VCA with a resonant lowpass VCF and VCA combo. The velocity-dependent Ping input offers classic release-only LPG behavior, while the Gate in offers much more complex slewing, useful for simple ASR envelopes to dynamic modulation. The envelope out allows the internal envelope to be routed out into a patch for even more versatility and modulation fun.

Monome Norns - "Your Day"

Published on Apr 17, 2019 Jae Ryan

"I recently packed up all my gear and made a little focused set up. Its just my Model D, Norns/Grid/Nanokontrol 2 & a few choice pedals. This is the result of my first noodle from the setup!

Model D goes into an El Capistan in mono which goes into the Norns in mono. This is so I can have some lo fi effects or delay on the samples or tapes I record. Norns goes out in stereo to a Strymon Volante and then that passes through in stereo to an OTO BAM (which in this jam is acting more as an overdrive than a reverb).

This little noodle uses Glut (yet again) and just one sample of a few notes I played on the Minimoog (except for a tape recording of noise I made for 'atmosphere'). Then, Glut stretches, reverses, granulates, pitch shifts and mangles them on 6 different tracks.

Stereo is basically mandatory because this is nothing but phase......"

Reminds me of the main riff in Close Encounters of The Third Kind.

Pics of the Inside of a Waldorf Quantum

These were spotted and sent in via Soviet Space Child, shared by d33psp33d on Gearslutz who had the following to say:

"ok wow, after buying 3 sets of torx wrenches, over 90 pieces I can confirm that the Quantum uses T10 Torx for the small screws and T30 for the big ones that support the underbar. You should be able to goto harware store and get exact sizes rather than piece it out on kits on amazon. I must say the kits were all cheap. I spent $50 all in and the tools will prob come in handy down the line. now for the pics of the internals!! So much less complex than my poly analogs, guess that should be common since but wow what a dif..."

New ALFA AS3350 - CEM3350 Filter Chips Going Into Production

"#AS3350 - (dual voltage controlled state variable filter) started evaluation.
Datasheet will be provided later."

Synths that use the CEM3350 include the Rhodes Chroma, Crumar Spirit, Synton Syrinx, Digisound 80-16 Dual Resonant Filter, and Solton Programmer 24. Someone fitted this original Rev1 Prophet-10 with them as well.
