Using MPE with the Ashun Sound Machines Hydrasynth [Tutorial]

Sensel

"The Ashun Sound Machines is one of the first hardware synthesizers to adopt the MIDI Polyphonic Expression (MPE) standard. See how to setup MPE on the Hydrasynth, and how to get the most of it with different sound design ideas for different types of music. We use the Sensel Morph as an MPE controller, though the lessons apply for any MPE controller.

Setup your DAW for MPE with Hydrasynth [Tutorial]

"We go through Logic Pro X, Ableton Live 11, Bitwig Studio, and Cubase 10 to show you how to setup the Ashun Sound Machines Hydrasynth as an external instrument for MIDI Polyphonic Expression (MPE). It's pretty simple, but there's usually one thing that can trip you up, so we go into all the details.

Sequential Artist Spotlight Interview with PETER VOIGTMANN

You can find the interview on Sequential's website here.

"Peter Voigtmann is a musician/producer who is living in an old mill between Bremen and Hamburg, Germany, where he is also running his own studio. He started chasing a professional career in 2012 as a drummer, with his main focus on sound and vibe, while constantly gaining more experience in recording and production. The outcome of all his electro-acoustic experiments can be heard in his solo project called SHRVL. In 2014 he started playing drums in the Noise-Rock-Post-Punk band HEADS, which he recorded 2 Albums and 1 Split EP with. These releases lead to a lot of touring through Europe and the US. After simultaneously being the lighting designer for the Post/Progressive-Metal band The Ocean Collective for 4 years, Peter changed position within the collective and began to work on all kinds of synths, soundscapes and samples for their 7th album Phanerozoic I: Palaeozoic, which came out in November 2018. The following year they played several tours across Europe, India, Australia, New Zealand, Russia, Belarus, Armenia, Kazakhstan, Georgia, Japan, and lots of European festivals. On September 25th 2020 they released their more eclectic, experimental and synth-heavy follow up Phanerozoic II: Mesozoic | Cenozoic.

We chatted with Peter on how he uses the Prophet-6 and OB-6 in his music"

FIXING A POWERTRAN TRANSCENDENT 2000 MONO SYNTH

Mindburner

Update: video is back with a new title.

"My attempt at bringing this classic synth back from the dead.

A kit synth from 1978, this was actually a pretty decent mono synth and was famously used by Joy Division on their first album.

Thin Air - Genki Wave MIDI Ring vs. ROLI Equator2 Synth Performance

Nular Music

"In this video I used the Wave MIDI ring by Genki Instruments to control the parameters of ROLI's Equator2 synth plugin via hand gestures.

I've been fascinated by this form of expression since I first heard about Source Audio's Hot Hand ring and the Mi.Mu Gloves, but I couldn't see how I could integrate it into my workflow until now.

nularseq, the Max for Live sequencer I developed specifically for finger drumming turned out to work very well in this context: it allows me to trigger sequences of MIDI notes via tapping my fingers.

Equator2's deep modulation system allows me to control the sound exactly the way I want to. In this performance I used the pan gesture to blend between two oscillators, the tilt gesture to control filter cutoff and scan through a wavetable and the roll gesture to control delay feedback, unison detune and various other parameters.

It's a pretty amazing experience to be able to trigger notes and control various aspects of the sound completely untethered, and I can see a lot of creative uses of this technology. Don't panic, I don't intend to ditch my Launchpad anytime soon =), but expect more videos exploring this form of expression from me soon."
