SUPERBOOTH22 & SOOPERgrail22 Set for May 2022

Press release follows:

Berlin, November 2021

20 YEARS OF SUPERBOOTH - TIME FOR SOMETHING NEW !

The successful SUPERBOOTH21 has shown how musical instrument trade fairs can work even during a pandemic. Due to the circumstances, the plan to esta- blish a new guitar fair has been put on hold so far. This September, a handful of guitar makers have already presented themselves at SUPERBOOTH21. Next year, the time has finally come and SOOPERgrail22 will be organized as its own event, with separate access and also at the FEZ-Berlin.

The idea of „Superbooth“ was already born 20 years ago and was cultivated in the first years in Frankfurt, with always new ideas, to an extraordinary, unusual trade fair concept. Six years have passed since the realization of an independent event in Berlin. During this time, a very personal and individual fair format has been established in the FEZ-Berlin. This development and the 20th anniversary will be celebrated on the eve of SUPERBOOTH22 with an exclusive evening event for our companions of the last 20 years.

As a special welcome for the new exhibitors from the guitar sector, a collective get-together for exhibitors and invited guests will be offered on the evening of 12. May - an opportunity to get to know each other, exchange ideas and meet again.

2G instead of 3G*

The planning of SUPERBOOTH22 and SOOPERgrail22 is based on the current

status of the official Covid regulations. For this reason, the organizers already point out that access to SUPERBOOTH22 and SOOPERgrail22 will most likely be bound to the 2G regulations.
This will allow for more indoor guests, the removal of time restrictions on indoor areas, and the prospect of possible reductions in mask requirements and minimum distances. A large number of exhibitors and visitors were already vac- cinated or recovered this year (2G). In order not to exclude anyone completely, it is expected that non-2G compatible visitors will still be allowed to attend with a daily PCR test.

*The so-called 3G rule (public spaces are only open to those that are vaccinated, recovered, or tested – in german: geimpft, genesen, getestet)

Here are the dates for SUPERBOOTH22 and SOOPERgrail22: SUPERBOOTH22: 12. - 14. May 2022

SOOPERgrail22: 13. - 14. May 2022

That is the short view into the future. But after 20 years of „Superbooth“, it‘s also worth taking a look back.

LOOKING BACK
In 2002, during the Musikmesse in Frankfurt, a „Superbooth“ took place for the first time as an ambitious group exhibition and with its own concert event. This was the starting point for everything that followed. Again and again we hear how people involved at that time become enthusiastic when they think back to the first Superbooth stands. The Superbooth concept stood out from the normal tra- de fair routine even back then, just like the Superbooth events today in Berlin.
HerrSchneider: „Many of the current participants such as Doepfer, (Bob) Moog, Elektron, Vermona, as well as currently involved artists like Mono- lake, Toktok and others are still connected to our events and activities and certainly like to celebrate with us. We are looking forward to the op- portunity to celebrate such a long-lasting development with each other once again!“

To take HerrSchneider at his word, the Superbooth Berlin GmbH celebrates the round anniversary with a special event in the context of SUPERBOOTH22. On the eve of SUPERBOOTH22 - on 11.5.2022 from 7 pm - the organizers will hold an ex- clusive anniversary celebration with exhibitors and invited guests. All this will of course take place at FEZ-Berlin.

PREVIEW

SOOPERgrail22
For the first time, SOOPERgrail22 will take place as a separately bookable, ca-
sual event for electric guitar manufacturers at FEZ-Berlin. The new event will be presented by Superbooth Berlin GmbH on two days, 13.-14. May 2022, as part of SUPERBOOTH22.
Exhibitors will showcase a selection of custom-made European electric and bass guitars in a separate area of the building around the K1 concert hall, in nearby rooms, on the Cinema presentation stage and in the open meeting areas.
A variety of presentations and concerts await guests at SUPERBOOTH22 and SOOPERgrail22 on several stages, as well as a large, shared outdoor area for both events with the popular catering options.

SUPERBOOTH22
SUPERBOOTH22 will again be an open and broad experience at FEZ-Berlin.
There will be up to 200 exhibitors and plenty of space and fresh air around the Seaside Stage (Seebühne) and in the park. The Hüttendorf and the Fuchsbau will also be integrated into the program again. Both are in close distance and offer
a very unique atmosphere due to their location, which complement the event perfectly.
Concerts and performances will take place on a total of four stages indoors and outdoors. Those who want to do more than just look and try things out can create something of their own in different DIY-workshops and take it home with them. School classes and other children can try out the numerous, age-appro- priate workshops and approach the topics of music creation and sound explora- tion with some guidance.

The exhibition can be visited daily from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., and the stage pro- gram continues into the evening. All those at home can keep their eyes and ears glued to the livestream and the trade fair radio.

Microbrute Layover

video upload by poorness studios

"I recently had a 4-hour layover in SLC airport and instead of sitting there bored... I decided to create this video. All sounds in this video were made with the Arturia Microbrute, a Sony TCM-200DV tape player (tape loop courtesy of The Void Electronics), and my Apple iPad. All the footage used in the video was captured with my smartphone."

SOMA Lyra-8 + CXM1978 // Getting lost in the process

video upload by Dexba

"It is quite difficult to describe the relationship between me and the Lyra.
On paper, it does very little, or way too much, much of it is nasty sounding, dirty, unpolished, difficult to tune and keep in tune, interpret the Attack & Decay pattern.
But, without me even noticing it, I always end up with very intense, involved jams, lasting several minutes, and I need to trim them down to do the sensible thing for the youtube viewers (and still almost 9 minutes).
There is something (sigh, I have to admit it) very organic, organismic, about how the Lyra behaves and how it forces you to interact with it.
It's the fear of the unreplicability (is that a word?), it's the gritty nature of the oscillators, with their seemingly random palette of harmonics that will eventually get in the way of tuning and creating chord, I really don't know. But I wouldn't trade it for anything else. Sort of. Tempt me!
Oh, and yes, that's the insanely for-no-reason expensive reverb pedal, and I am torn between liking it a lot on the Lyra and missing some of sparkling (or muddier at the same time) vibe of a BigSky or a DBA Room.
I definitely need to try the Cosmos tho!
I had a nice video in the making, with a sort of a Lyra review/comparison with the Solar50, but then life changed rapidly and I had to ditch all of that.
Now I am waiting for an Ornament-8 to complete my set with the Lyra and Pulsar-23 too, and I hope I will be able to show you something before the end of the year 💝
In any case, enjoy ✨"

Bad Gear - Novation Mininova

"Welcome to Bad Gear, the show about the world's most hated audio tools. Today we are going to talk about the Novation Mininova. This classic compact synth suspiciously similar to the Microkorg has been turned into the Frankennova by the previous owner who just sawed off the keyboard."

The ARP 2600M Experience

video upload by Red Means Recording

"The Korg Arp 2600M is a "mini" version of the extremely classic Arp 2600 analog synthesizer. In this video I multitrack it to create 4 experiences that show off how it can sound. All sounds besides drums and noise risers are from the Arp. Keep reading for what's going on in each "experience"!

00:00 synthwave experience

classic synthwave sounds. captured midi for each part in ableton and then recorded the audio while playing the panel controls. arp, bass, lead, noise lead, drums. used amp and cab simulation in ableton on some parts to give more space to the mix and add some grit.

03:03 ring mod experience
fed a youtube video playing terence mckenna directly into the arp's preamp, then piped that to the ring modulator. the pre-amp signal also creates an envelope via the envelope follower that is used to adjust the filter cutoff. played around with a pass of just noise and effects, then added a repeating melodic line and a bubbling abstract arpeggio underneath.

06:27 collapse experience
the modwheel of your midi controller plugged into the arp can be used as a cv modulator for anything in the synth. i used it to do pitch-bends of specific oscillators to specific intervals, giving me a cool sort of duophonic slide lead thing. wanted to make a track that sounded like black moth super rainbow, but one the acapella dropped in it felt more like tabasco. I'm not complaining.

09:57 euphoric experience
the arp can be used as a duophonic synthesizer, meaning you can play two separate notes at once through the same filter and vca section. if you tune the third oscillator to a pleasant interval, you can get nice chords. that and the arp are the basis of this track. the acid rain maestro provides complex modulation to the filter which i bring in and out."

New MeeBlip cubit duo: USB MIDI interface and MIDI thru

via Create Digital Music

"We’re pleased to introduce our latest addition to the MeeBlip line – the simple but essential interface and thru box for MIDI we needed ourselves. Here’s cubit duo.

You know the need. You’ve got some MIDI gear, and you need to connect it to your computer – or your iPad, or a phone, or a Raspberry Pi. You want it to work via USB. You want it to be reliable and for the timing to be solid. You don’t want to have to install drivers – or you’ve got a device (like a phone or Linux) that doesn’t work with Windows or Mac drivers.

Or you’ve got some cute compact synths and drum machines and boxes and… huh. They’ve got MIDI IN, but no MIDI out.

cubit duo solves all of this in one device. And it’s two gadgets in one (literally, because it replaces two devices we used to make separately).

Standalone, it’s a 4-port MIDI splitter – also known as a MIDI thru box. Plug MIDI into the MIDI IN jack, and whatever is sent to that input is sent simultaneously to all four OUT jacks – with near-zero latency, so it’s perfect for clock signal or anything needing ultra-tight timing.

Connected via USB to a computer or (with adapter) mobile device, it’s an interface and a thru box. It appears to the connected device as a 1×1 MIDI interface, but – here’s the twist – the MIDI OUT is sent to all four output jacks. Since MIDI has up to 16 channels, that can still work for four separate MIDI signals – but what you don’t get is the software lag some devices introduce. It’s a perfect way to connect four outputs without worrying about the interface adding any lag. (The usual lag and jitter the OS and computer add apply, but the four outputs will be in sync with one another.)

This replaces two separate devices – cubit splitter and cubit go – with all the benefits those devices offered. We got great feedback from all of you on those, but you clearly wanted them to be one device. We found a way to engineer that and add a simple switch to let you choose modes.

And you get all of this for US$79.95 / €79,95 (including VAT), shipping now."

KORG Stator by Sinevibes - NTS-1

KORG Stator by Sinevibes - minilogue xd

"Stator is a tape wobble simulator for KORG prologue, minilogue xd & NTS-1. Designed and developed by Sinevibes. Product page: https://www.sinevibes.com/korgstator"

"Stator is a tape wobble simulator plugin for KORG prologue, minilogue xd and NTS-1. It uses a creative approach to replicate the effects of speed fluctuations in tape machines, namely wow and flutter due to uneven electric motor rotation, as well as scrape flutter caused by the friction of the tape against the tape head. The algorithm also models gentle phasing artifacts produced by crosstalk between the stereo channels. The processed sound has a beautiful stereo vibe and can go from gentle chorusing and coloration all the way to dramatic lo-fi pitch wobble."
