ARP 2600 Ring Modulator Demo

video upload by O.Z. Hall

"This demo just scratches the surface of what you can do with a "Ring Modulator" (aka Balanced Modulator, aka 4 Quadrant multiplier).

Here is some technical detail ...
The term quadrant used below refers to cartesian coordinates ( e.g. x/y graph with 4 quadrants ).

Regarding two quadrant multipliers (e.g. VCA) versus four quadrant multipliers (e.g. Ring Modulator).
Here's a short definition;
A two quadrant multiplier will multiply two signals together
one (bipolar) input (the carrier) (e.g. VCA signal input - audio or a DC voltage - e.g. +/-5v )
another (unipolar ) input (the modulator) (e.g. a level control input, e.g. an envelope 0-5v ) .
A 4 quadrant multiplier will multiply two signals, both of which are bipolar.

The both multipliers create "sidebands", whose frequencies are the sum and difference of the two inputs. E.G. 100 Hz (carrier) and 25 Hz (modulator). The sideband frequencies are the sum (100+25 = 125 Hz) and the difference (100 - 25 = 75 Hz) .

A 2 quadrant multiplier is an unbalanced modulator while 4 quadrant multiplier is "balanced". This means that.
The VCA (unbalanced) would output the carrier and the sideband frequencies (100 Hz, 125 Hz, 75 Hz).
A ring modulator (balanced) outputs only the sideband frequencies (the carrier is suppressed)."

Deftaudio midi merger [DIY & github] quick review/demo

video upload by Meska

"More a realy quick review, than a demo, but you don't need it for simple function like that.

Many other configuration : https://www.tindie.com/stores/deftaudio/

Thank you for watching.
My name is Meska of the statik collective . I've been making mostly "dark and expérimental" music for more than ten years now, i'v learn so much online, now it's time for me to share my knoledge, my exploration and this channel is a place to talk about the tools, sound design and techniques to make music with.
i'm tattooist at day jobs and you can found my work here : www.meska.fr

"This MIDI Merger / Splitter is the special 2 input 5 output thru box which I designed from scratch while not being happy with other options.

It has two MIDI input ports which are merged together by a microcontroller and then split to five MIDI outputs. Programmed microcontroller is included with a PCB or Kit purchase.

It has optimized schematics for 5V and 3.3V MIDI sender devices, optimized circuitry for optocoupler to minimize false triggering and improve sensitivity. Finally it uses hex inverter with a Schmitt trigger for driving a stronger output signal. This makes it very reliable device. This is an active circuit, so it does require an external power. That’s the way it should be according to the MIDI specs.

There are two options for external power:

To be used with a standard wall adapter 6-12V and 5.5mm*2.1mm connector. In this case a Kit comes with corresponding socket and 7805 power regulator
To be powered from USB port. In this case a Kit includes USB->5.5mm*2.5mm cable, corresponding power socket (so you wont plug wall adapter) and doesn't include 7805. Instead of that you'll solder a jumper Pin 1 and Pin 3. Leave Pin 2 not connected. Please make sure, you use USB port or adapter with 5V output and verify it prior to connecting to the board. There are some QuickCharge USB chargers which can bump a voltage. Please, avoid using them.

Board size and an enclosure choice: Size: 5x17cm"

Behringer Considers ARP Avatar w/ Vocal Tracking for $499

Another from Behringer.

"We recently asked you, if you’re interested in a revival of the lovely ARP Avatar, which was designed as a guitar synthesizer.

We have since created a draft that replaces the hex guitar input with a high-speed and super accurate audio to CV converter, which not only allows you to perfectly track your guitar signal, but also any other instrument. We also included a mic input for great vocal tracking.

What would be your level of interest for such a synth? What other changes would you like to see?

We believe we could achieve a price of US$ 499 retail.

Please remember that this is only a proposal for now and we have not decided to pursue this project."

Audio + Video by G-Storm Electro c. 2022

Today I'll demo some synthesizer sounds w/ the Boss RE-202 Space Echo.
And give some honest user opinions at the end.
Is this pedal worth it? Let's see.

Recorded direct, no other mastering or effects.
Just the RE-202 and various synth type devices one at a time.

This video was not sponsored by Boss.
The RE-202 was purchased out of pocket for my own fun.
All opinions are my honest impressions.

ARP ® QUADRA Vintage Analog Synthesizer Keyboard w/ Extras

Pics of the inside below.

"Originally bought new in a musical instrument shop in Turin in 1981 (one of the few authorised ARP dealer at that time...) and barely used in my smoking-free studio then put away in his flight case for a very long time, now I would like to find a new owner / collector who will be able to give it the right value and care he deserves.

The keyboard is 100% original except for very few replaced components described below. Really outstanding for a Quadra! It will not be easy to find one in such original state as they are very delicate and it is easy to find yourself in a dead end when you repair one...

Demo in the video previously posted here.

Roland SYSTEM-700 in excellent shape. The system comes with 1 Main Cabinet (complete with tolex and front lid) and 2 smaller cabinet frames (without tolex). All modules work as expected and the sound is pure analog heaven. Very nice set of modules including 3 filters (!) and 4 oscillators, Dual ADSR, VCA, S&H, Mixer, GateDelay, Multiple, and stereo Chorus. Se below for full list. All oscillators calibrated and track perfectly over 5 octaves (and more) with 1V/octave. (Octave range switches are not currently calibrated for perfect octave jumps). Pre-wired Internal routings: Key CV to all 4 oscillators Key CV to the 2 filters in the main cabinet ADSR 1 and ADSR 2 to Left filter in main cabinet. You connect your external CV and Gate to the external PSU-unit. The PSU unit use the special original connector for main cabinet and a more modern DIN- connector for the extra cabinets. Additional empty Cabinet frame including power is included. Just add it to the other Cabinet frame with the included cable. Use for additional modules but also great for test and calibrating matters. Note, this is not the simplified Lab-system but the full blown 700 modules with lots of more external inputs on each module.

List of Modules.

2 X VCOs 702E (With Sync)
2 X VCF 703C (12dB multimode)
