"DVG's 1st musically offering for you listening consideration."

All Minibrute recorded live in Ableton "with a small amount of reverb and delay with some very slight digital manipulation in a few small segments."

MFOS Music From Outer Space Dual Analog Multimode Filter State Variable

"I call this module the "MFOS Dual Multimode Frequency Modulator" and it is a one-of-a-kind sound module. Amazing sound with very flexible design perfect for MOTM Synthtech, Synthesizers.com or other 5U systems.

Custom made professional analog modular synthesizer module. This is high quality construction intended to last a lifetime. Quality parts throughout:

- 3mm Custom Engraved Aircraft Aluminum Panel
- Stainless Steel PCB bracket
- Sealed Spectrol Cermet Pots
- Sealed Trim Pots on PCB
- Sealed Rotary Switches
- Official Alco Phenolic Knobs
- Switchcraft 112 Jacks
- Flatted Bat Handle Switches
- All IC's are socketed for easy replacement

This also has a variable mix circuit I added to allow incoming Control Voltage signals tone inverted and assigned to each filter with a couple of routing switches.

Two filters. These can be used as separate filters just like Ray Wilson at MOTM designed or as two filters in series as I built them into this module. Each filter is 12dB and using them both in series gives you a 24dB response where you can dial in the frequency of each filter. Other filters with dual sections you may recognize include the Roland Juno-106 and the Korg MS-20. This design by Ray Wilson is Operational Transconductance Amplifier (OTA) based for warm and character like old Moog designs such as the Moog Source. "

"Functionally everything works, except the Tom Tom/Conga circuit produces a slight hum in the audio. If you turn down the Tom volume, it removes the hum, and none of the rest of the sounds are affected.

Otherwise, all the knobs are working and not scratchy, the buttons perform their functions, and the switches and LEDs are all immediately responsive. The trigger output is also working..."

"The drums sound clear and loud, and the buttons, knobs and lights are all immediately responsive. The pads are good for the most part, but I do get some double triggers from them at times.

The battery compartment is clean, and the MR10 will run off of 6 AA batteries or the appropriate power supply (9V - 12V DC, tip positive). However, neither power source is included in the sale, so you'll have to make provisions to power the unit..."

" All functions work, but this Rhythm 12 has a strange issue with noise on most of the patterns. Beats 5, 7 and 12 are totally clean and loud, but the rest have a bothersome noise on them.

The included power supply is non-original, but built by Dunlop, and is voltage and polarity correct. The unit requires a fairly rare 18V DC power supply.

Hopefully someone can still make use of this cool little drum box, or better yet, restore the unit to perfect condition. The sound of the Rhythm 12 is really quite quirky and unique, and it would make a great addition to any rare drum machine collection..."

"This auction is for a rare ELI CompuRhythm CR-7030 in excellent cosmetic and fully working condition. There are a few blemishes from normal use, but nothing major. (See pictures for details.) Oddly, there is a bit of transformer whine, but it goes away if you lean the unit backwards about 20 degrees or so. This is a physical whine, and not present in the audio at all.

It's definitely a vintage unit and needs a gentle touch, but all the knobs are working and not scratchy, the buttons perform their functions, and the switches and LED are all immediately responsive..."

Morton Subotnick And Joan La Barbara On Q2 Music's 'Spaces'

"April 17, 2013The pioneering electronic composer responsible for Silver Apples of the Moon turned 80 years old this week. Q2 Music visited with Subotnick and his wife, vocalist Joan La Barbara, in the couple's Greenwich Village apartment for this installment of their web series Spaces."

via NPR:

"by HANNIS BROWN

It's difficult to overstate Morton Subotnick and Joan La Barbara's contributions to contemporary music.

Subotnick's pioneering work in electronic music includes such game-changing pieces as Silver Apples of the Moon and A Sky of Cloudless Sulphur. The composer, who turned 80 this past Sunday, also helped to develop the California Institute of the Arts's groundbreaking curriculum. He also co-founded the highly influential San Francisco Tape Music Center, where Terry Riley, Pauline Oliveros and Steve Reich would cut their teeth writing tape music.

Joan La Barbara is one of today's most iconic vocalists — John Cage and Morton Feldman both wrote music for her. Her own music, which often stretches the possibility of the human voice, has been honored with a slew of awards including a 2004 Guggenheim fellowship in music composition.

For the second installment of Q2 Spaces, we visited the couple's Greenwich Village apartment, where they've resided for the past 17 years. The walls are lined with the artwork of friends and collaborators, and the kitchen cupboard doubles as La Barbara's vocal booth. A shelf in Subotnick's studio houses a piece of the first Buchla analog synthesizer — the instrument used to create Silver Apples. The bustling sounds of the city streets sift through their kitchen window.

"I have been working on a new Sequential Voltage Source. It is only a single module space and packs a big punch. It does most of the things a MARF or ARF does, but without any menus. It can act as an 8 stage sequencer with two rows, voltage control of the clock/slide rate, switchable slides/pulses, pulse outs on each channel and the ability to loop from any stage to any stage. It can act as a multi-stage envelope, up to all 8 stages with any stage as a sustain stage or any stage pausing unless a key is held. It can act as ADSR, AHDSR, HADSR, AD, AR, AHD, LFO saw, pulse, square, triangle, something more complex, LFO that only runs when a key is held, LFO that only runs when a key is lifted..."

"POLYMER MOLECULE SYNTH SET. This nine-piece set includes the complete ISOMER MOLECULE SYNTH SET plus a MIDI-Input.WHAT IS THE MOLECULE SYNTH?The MOLECULE SYNTH is a unique musical instrument. It is like a traditional keyboard synthesizer that has been broken into its elements: speaker/amp, sound generator, and pitch control. With the MOLECULE SYNTH SET you decide how to put those elements back together using simple, color-coded, interchangeable hexagons. The MOLECULE SYNTH combines LEGO-like interchangeability with Synthesizers with Physical Electronics.MOLECULE SYNTH =LEGO + SYNTHESIZERS + PHYSICAL ELECTRONICS“I must Create a System or be enslav'd by another Man's” -William BlakeI was inspired to create the MOLECULE SYNTH by experiences circuit bending toys and building my own electronic instruments, and I wanted to make something with sounds that were more wild and less predictable than what comes from traditional keyboards. I wanted an instrument that was more interesting than just pushing buttons, but I also wanted to get away from the “black box” pre-fab technologies that makes us all passive “consumers” using someone else’s designs. So I made the MOLECULE SYNTH to be an open ended, hardware-based, stand-alone musical instrument that is easy to hack & modify, that is DIY to the core, that totally rocks, sounds amazing, and is guaranteed super fun to play! The MOLECULE SYNTH has the pitch-accurate musical capabilities of any old random store-bought keyboard, but with the MOLECULE SYNTH, you can see and change the way that the instrument works. You can plug in a MIDI keyboard to control the MOLECULE SYNTH, or you can use the physical controllers for more experimental sounds. The MOLECULE SYNTH is like a building block set for creating your own musical device. You move the interchangeable components around and adjust controllers to create a variety of fun combinations. It’s an experimenter’s design set, which means you choose how the instrument is configured, and you can experiment with it fearlessly because you can’t hurt anything or yourself trying new combinations, and the hexes can moved again and again."
