Vintage Farfisa Soundmaker Analog Synthesizer

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.
Published on Mar 1, 2015 Joseph McGinty

"A demonstration of the Farfisa Soundmaker synthesizer, currently for sale."

via MATRIXSYNTH CLASSIFIEDS

"Basically it's a combination string synth, poly synth and mono synth. When you blend all three it sounds pretty huge!

Mono presets include: Tube, Trombone, Trumpet, Sax, Clarinet, Oboe, Flute, Piccolo, Violin, Accordion, El. Bass, El. Guitar and "Free". The filter can be controlled by the LFO and/or the ADSR. There's portamento control for the mono sounds. The LFO can also control pitch or the VCA for tremelo effects.

Poly presets: Piano, Harpsichord, Honkye Tonk, Brass. There's a filter for the poly section that controls brightness.

Strings: 8' and 4', with Brilliance, Sustain and Attack controls.

Cosmetically there are a few gashes where the music stand used to go (see pictures)."

Theremin player on the street in Bucharest

Published on Dec 24, 2014 MOARRR

"This was one of my most trippy and most heart warming experience in 2014. I saw a miracle in the Old Town of Bucharest.

I was wandering around alone in the Old Town, a kind of chill walk instead of a disco nap before my gig. I've heard a strange and really unique sound from somewhere, and I got really excited. Is it a theremin? How? Why? On the street? In winter?

So many questions popped up in few moments, and I was tracking down the sourse of the sound like crazy.

In a minute or so I've found an old gentleman, he was playing a theremin indeed, and he had his own lights, speakers and technology with him.

His name is Benedict Popescu, and he built the theremin himself. I was lucky enough to have a small talk with him, and here are the things I've found out.

This is the third theremin he made, and according to him the street conditions are not making any issues for the instrument, even it was really cold. He is a professional musican, he did several albums with theremins, and he likes to play on the streets because of the inspiration and the experience.

His English was not the best and I didn't want to force a video interview, but he allowed me to record a song.

People been passing by, it was really cold and dark, but it was probably the best time of my 2014.

We are considering ourselves as producers, musicians, DJs, the heroes of today. But we are so spoiled with technology, managements, agencies, labels and so on. The joy of playing music gets lost so easily and so often. And on the other hand, me the star blogger and star DJ turned back into a little kid in no time, just because of this old man and his wicked machine. We don't need all those fancy stuff to play music and we don't need all those hype to give joy to the audience. Benedict Popescu is the living proof, and I feel really lucky that my guardian angel guided me to see him.

If you see a street musician do not judge, but listen. Amazing talents can be found in any random city.

Merry Xmas and happy 'n wicked 2015 folks!

luv

Yamaha DX-7 FM Synthesizer w/ Supermax Upgrade & Backlit LCD

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

"For sale is a Yamaha DX-7 (mk1) with the Supermax upgrade installed. The display has been upgraded to a bright green backlit display. I've also fully cleaned the keys - all of the keys work evenly, and transmit velocity and aftertouch. The DX has been well tested - everything is 100% functional on this synthesizer.

Cosmetically, there are some scratches and scuffs on it, but it's still overall very clean. The volume slider is free of static and scratchiness, and the buttons all work evenly. You'll notice in the photo there's some wear on the membrane overlay. There aren't any holes (it might look that way in the photo - trust me, there aren't any), but around the #1 button, it's raised up a bit.

Now, the Supermax upgrade.

I've owned and serviced a number of these, including one with a grey matter board. I've never seen the Supermax until now, and it's stunning. You get:

- 12 banks of patch memory (256 patches total)
- 32 programmable arpeggiators
- Stack voices - this sacrifices some polyphony, but within a single patch, you can tune up to 3 additional voices +/- two octaves (coarse and fine tuning). This, is a lot of fun.
- A mono delay processor. Delay goes up to 9,930ms, with level, feedback, and pitch mod control. Unfortunately due to processor limitations, you can change the delay in real-time.

There are some other features, but these are the core of it. It also comes with the original voice chips, the old LCD, a padded case, and a manual (though, I'll have to PDF you the Supermax manual)."

Thanks Steve.

Though small the Volca Sample has a big heart.
It's the coolest drum machine. ... esp for distorted & malfunctioning glitch music.
The Volca has a very small memory so its samples are severely bit-rate reduced.

FEATURED LISTINGS

Please Read: If anyone uses this page and would like to see it continue on, please leave a comment in the comments section at the bottom of this post, or contact me directly at matrixsynth@gmail.com before March 1st. I am considering retiring this page and having the "more..." link in the Featured Listings section above go to the auction channel instead. I originally created this page to capture some of the more interesting items that go up, but as the bar for auctions has gone up, most items end up on this page anyway.  I'm also guessing that those who visit the site (and hence this page) regularly, rarely miss anything and can easily catch up via the auction channel.  Full posts with larger images are also easier to read.  If anyone has any objections, let me know.

---

This post hosts all Featured listings that drop off the top of the site for the month. You'll find a link to previous months below. Many of these listings will obviously end in time and some will get re-listed (always check the listing). They will remain here as a record of what went up over time. For some, you can click on the image to see what they went for on eBay. Some expire from eBay and some expire from MATRIXSYNTH CLASSIFIEDS. This list only hosts some of the more interesting and unique items that have gone up over time, so be sure to check out the Auctions channel for everything else. You can of course search for any synth with "auction" in the search box on the top left of the site. If you click through the auction links you can see what items went for. You can also search by serial numbers to track the history of specific synths.
